Are you really that perturbed over the fact that Apple doesn’t really care for Google’s iteration of their idea?

I’m not an Android fan, but who cares.

Green peeps on my phone aren’t that close to me anyway.
Yes. I am perturbed that Apple hasn’t made some kind of iMessage for Android. E2E was mentioned 20-odd times in the keynote, so it’s important to them, but not important enough for me to have secure messaging with my Android friends.

I’m sorry you don’t have more green bubble friends. They are cool people too…

So wait, is it clear whether Standby will only work when the phone is charging, or will it work if the phone is just sitting horizontally?

They specifically said when charging. They also said “with the iPhone 14 Pro’s always on display” which means you’ll have to tap to wake it on anything older, if it’s supported at all.

Yes, I heard them, but you never know — I mean they didn't mention interactive widgets for iOS, but they're there. This sucks though — I don't like to keep my phone on the charger constantly and def not overnight...

So this isn’t a Snow Leopard-like update that will focus on bug fixes, performance, and stability?

iOS 16 is the buggiest iOS release ever, even now with the latest version, 16.5. I think I’ll pass on iOS 17 until it reaches it’s final version next year, around September 2024, shortly before iOS 18 is released.
yes. reckoned gradually here and there bugs in almost every native apps.

Yes the real treat with new iOS versions is discovering all the little improvements they didn’t mention.

I too think that on charger only is too restrictive, especially when the display isn’t always on anyway.

I’ve just learned to pay close attention to their exact phrasing. They never talk about what’s not supported, only very specifically about what is.

Right, but one can always hope. I'm wondering if there will be a way to fool the phone into thinking it's charging)))

I forget the exact phrasing now but they even slipped in a “while charging (with MagSafe)” in around that time too, so it may not even work with just any Qi charger. That would be disappointing since that’s what my bedside charger is, one of those Anker 3 in 1s that’s not technically certified for anything but actually works great.

I'm actually hoping that it's the MagSafe magnets that may be able to fool the phone into thinking that it's charging even if it's not plugged in. Probably won't happen though)

Looks to be a decent update. I still want to be able to put icons wherever I want and multi tasking. Not sure those will ever happen….

That’s the strange thing about Apple: it’s your phone, but it’s also their showcase; they don’t want messy front screens showing up all over the internet.

I think the grid is here to stay.

The leakers got it all wrong. Very disappointed with this update. The most requested suggestions turned down.
How do you know they were the most suggested features that Apple received?

I imagine that shared AirTags was quite a biggie.

tired of those grimmick things of personalisation, e.g. contact card, personal voice, etc, and those cosmetic improvement like customised lock screen, making emoji. while they put effort in making contact card, why didn't they upgrade the old contact app, in particular improving its integration with other native apps, like making it to support POI in addr fields, so that contact with POI typed addr could be located on apple map?

there are some nice tweak to improve productivities, transcription of voice msg in both phone and imessage.

so far, a bit disappointed not to hear many updates on Map, Photo and Calendar apps which i use mostly in daily life.

some may be excited about the new upcoming journal app. however, i am skeptical how far it is diff from the little nice Note app, and why didn't they make it as a feature upgrade to Note app.

Most years, they can’t fit everything into the keynote, so there may be improvements to other apps that will leak out over the next week or so.

The journal is a place for reflection and associated feels, so I’m glad it’s a separate app.

Still no multi-language support for Siri... Seriously how hard would it be to enable two languages on Siri, so she can read text messages while I'm driving... It doesn't even need to auto-detect languages. If I could ask her: to read my last message in Portuguese would be enough.

Not to mention now that it will convert audio messages to text, another reason for supporting multi-language.

I live in Australia, and we speak English, but at home, between family and some of our friends, we speak Portuguese, it would be a major feature update to be able to add Portuguese as a second language to siri, the keyboard already knows when I'm typing in Portuguese and gives me suggestions and corrections based on it, why can't siri do it too?

Just had a flashback to my youth and my old Nintendo DS, where you could share a game with someone in range without them having to own it. Could be fun doing the same thing with our phones.

what other lang you are looking for?

as far as i know, there is a setting for Siri to choose the lang to command Siri.

auto-lang detection may be a bit too much for on-device intelligent.

iOS 16 vs. iOS 17.

Then vs. now...
