I was thinking along the lines of using an apple tv to get this done

Further the Xoom actually gets 9.52 hours on 3g browsing, vs whats that??? 7.77 on iPad??!

So a brand new unit performs the one that shipped a year ago. Stop the presses, who would have thunk that new tech would outperform older tech. Completely irrelevant in regard to the new iPad. Come back when you have that same benchmark for iPad 2.

And you ignored the point of the post you responded to - the iPad 2 is lighter AND thinner AND cheaper than the Xoom.

But you see.. I can go buy a dual core Xoom right now, with dual cams (w flash), 10 hour battery life etc...

So? The new iPad will be out in a week. I don't think a three week head start is going to matter one bit to people actually deciding which to buy.

By the way $799 is not the only price, WIFI only models, which will also be packing more hardware than comparable iPads, will be cheaper too

And the wifi only Xoom won't ship for a few months (I believe that's called, what's the word..."vaporware"?), while the iPad 2 wifi will be out next week. Hypocrisy much?

I'm getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 which is lighter (1.3 pounds) and will have a Samsung AMOLED screen

"Will have"? After all the whining about "vaporware" (which obviously doesn't apply to a device shipping in a week) now you're going on about a tablet that's not shipping?

To all haters and whiners

Some people takes really serious and personal if some features didn't make it to the iPad. Some reaaaaally wanted Retina Display, some wanted 8 MP cameras front and back, some wanted usb and sd ports, some wanted 3D screen, some wanted Apple to give them one for free, money and an apology letter hand-written by Steve Jobs. Well, I have the solution to all your problems:

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE IPAD 2... DON'T BUY IT!!!!!! :)

Fortunately, there are a lot of reaaaally advanced, successful and clever options out there for your professional requirements, I, in the meantime, will buy an iPad 2 as soon as it is available and I'll be a happy costumer as usual with Apple.

(And as usual, this will be the most successful "pad")

Not sure if this is already pointed out... but the 5MP HD shooting w/dual LED flash shipping SINCE LAST THURSDAY.. as opposed to the still vaporware iPad 2 ie. NOT SHIPPING

gets 9.48 hours browsing on Wifi... vs 9.78 on iPad... hardly an epic win.. we're in 2011! http://www.anandtech.com/show/4191/motorola-xoom-review-first-honeycomb-tablet-arrives/14

Further the Xoom actually gets 9.52 hours on 3g browsing, vs whats that??? 7.77 on iPad??! WTF Xoom actually got BETTER battery life/ Despite the verticle integration? Oh. my. days :D

P.S the Xoom has 149 PPI vs 131 PPI and is actual widescreen.. cry about it:p

Oh and I since were talking about iPad 2 weight.. which isnt shipping, look up the Galaxy Tab 10.1's weight
Wide screen format is 16:9 or 1.78 to 1. The Galaxy 10.1 screen is 1.60 to one. It is not an "actual widescreen" either. Learn the technical specifications before telling anyone they should cry about it.

Vaporware describes products not released on the date announced by their developer, or announced months or years before their release. The word usually implies a negative opinion of a product or developer, and pessimistic uncertainty that it will eventually be released. No one in the industry would call the iPad 2 vaporware, it was announced today, and absolutely will be released in 9 days. The Galaxy 10.1 was announced on 14 Feb, and still has not been given a release date or price, if anything is vaporware, that may meet the definition.

The iPad's rear camera is HD, although that specification of HD can fall well short of 5 MP (and I am sure it does on the new iPad). 1080P, HD TV is a max resolution of 2.1 million pixels, so a 5 MP camera is overkill for that purpose.

The Xoom or Galaxy are not significantly (1.32 v 1.35 lb for Galaxy 10.1) lighter or thinner (Xoom is heavier). All three of those products, Xoom, Galaxy 10.1 and iPad 2 are pretty tightly matched in processing, weight and dimensions honestly, but numerous sites expect the price of the Galaxy (for the same storage size) to be more expensive than the iPad, and the Xoom is already known to cost more, $799 versus $729 for equivalent iPad (plus an option for $599 if you don't care about 3G - no such option on Xoom)

So there are not "thinner, lighter, or cheaper" options than the iPad 2 on its release date next Friday (since there is no date for the 4 gram lighter Galaxy yet).

However neither colleges or businesses have an apple tv anyway. ;)

Vaporware? Seriously? You're going to label something vaporware that is being released in less then 2 weeks? By a reputable company with proven track record? Um no. Unreleased? Yes. Vaporware? I don't think so. Try again.

I agree. Personally I also dont see any real killer features which would persude me to buy one, im perfectly happy with my MBP which does a lot more than the ipad. I think price should come down for the base model at least.

your MBP doesnt have instant on, 10 hrs batt, or allow you to keep it in your luggage.

If the iPad gets any thinner, Apple will have to change the name to Steve. ;)

Mean and Funny.

But you see.. I can go buy a dual core Xoom right now, with dual cams (w flash), 10 hour battery life etc...

The only Apple tablet on the market has no cameras, single core, 256 MB RAM,... but Xoom is copying Apple.

They are.. All they did was copy the iPad and update the hardware from the original iPad. That is like saying if I build my own PC with better specs that somehow I have bested Microsoft. That makes no sense.

Motorola did NOTHING at all to advance the tablet field with the Xoom. It is a flat out rip off of the iPad with some hardware spec updates. The sad part is it is already irrelevant within the first month.

There is nothing innovative about just increasing the hardware used in a computing device. That is not how innovation works.

So far nobody but Apple has done ANYTHING innovative in the tablet market.

I'm getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 which is lighter (1.3 pounds) and will have a Samsung AMOLED screen :) The Xoom's isnt that great.

Im not even saying Android ownz or anything, but know-it-alls who havent even got their facts straight

and there in lies the problem. The Xoom is out two weeks and already a new and better one comes out. Already outdated. Plus you have hope Moto will update the software and when.

You do know VGA = 640X480 which is the same resolution as NTSC TV Something nobody had a problem with even on 30 inch TV's for years.
Traditional analog NTSC TV was never actually 640x480, try about 320x240 on a good day - and it was terrible on 30 inch TVs. Theoretically NTSC was 480 lines, but by the time you dealt with interlacing and analog, claiming 640x480 is far, far from what was reality.

Hardly vaporware. A thousand journalists are fondling them as we speak and Engaget says it is "Blazingly fast." Never heard them call the Xoom that.

You are also getting a GPS with the 3G version. Name the GPS unit you can buy for under $90 if you want to say the 3G is only worth $40.

Except when you spend that $90, you're buying a device with another speaker, another screen, heck, whole new insides. If you had to buy a chip for a mobo, it probably would cost much less.

But that defeats the point of my statement-the fact a 3g antenna and a gps chip being cheap these days is irrelevant-why isn't Apple implementing a dual mode 3g? That's the problem I'm having. Justifying Apple by saying "LOOK, GPS" misses the point: I want it to hook up to Verizon AND work in Europe at the same time. Its a novel concept since the antenna and chips in both items are probably the same (the iPhone 4 can CERTAINLY do both for the CDMA model, except it doesn't include a sim...). The reason this looks ominous to me is it seems Apple is determining Worldmode users of CDMA phones is rather small-and let's be realistic, it is-and I view it as the odds of a dualmode iphone as very remote.

And I'm mostly reflecting on the fact there is a CDMA and GSM ipad more than a WiFi and 3G ipad. Nice way to miss the point, most people, aside from the person who said the iphone 5 is independent. Well, that's a point that they're different products, but I do not see Apple doing it since it would literally cost them a buck or two to implement it per unit-and will be the same with the phone-and they'll just say not worth the cost.

Does anyone have a direct download link handy for the 6 min iPad 2 video spiel on the Apple website (direct link to the .mov file that I can right click save)?

Also, I wonder if the video mirroring is a hardware or software feature - would be nice if I could do video mirroring on my iPad 1 with the VGA cable I have.

Each of you hating on this are unhappy that your iPad 1 is now out of date.

Deal with it, or buy a new one. Simple enough.

+1
I totally agree.

While I like the thinner design and lighter weight, the iPad 2 is still pretty much an 4G iPod touch "writ large"--including using the same camera sensors!

I really had hoped that Apple would use the same 5-megapixel sensor found on the iPhone 4, which would have made the iPad 2 a far more desirable device.

Since I have an ipad...i see no compelling reason to spend again for V2 (even if I could sell my ipad).

This is like the 3g to 3gs upgrade....nice but we all really wanted the 4.

So I will wait for the next iteration as we all know it will have a better screen resolution and some of the features still missing.

I'm In LOVE.

Honestly. I thought the iPad was gonna be thinner with a camera.

But no! They made it white; with those epic colored smart cases, it has a gyroscope, ahh...

I'm IN LOVE.

Honestly, do you think it would be that terrible of me to just feint about the iPad 3 and run a grab a 2? Who else likes the fact it's WHITE?

I honestly don't care about resolution. I am just freakin' in LOVE.

The white color I can understand, but why is everyone so hyped up about it being 8.8 mm?

Technically, it's going to look thicker during use than the original iPad. The tapered back on the first one made it look like it was only as thick as the sides were tall. It was a visual illusion, and a damn good one.

Many people won't notice that though and will only concentrate on the numbers.

Do you guys suspect there will be a long line to snatch an iPad 2 (White 32GB 3G) up on the 11th or will I be able to stroll in around 7PM and get one no problem? Thanks.
