Need to buy then buy. If not satisfy, don't buy.
Take just a glance to decide. Your reasons are not mine.
Why do you have to show? You have iPad I know.
They got you, you are sold. Your iPad is one year old.

I'm not psyched at all. They didn't include LTE, which would have sold this thing for me. I'm going to have to wait for the Xoom to get its LTE upgrade now.

The rest of the improvements are cool, but they're not all that big of a deal. It's a classic Apple upgrade; they made it slimmer, lighter, and updated the CPU/GPU combo.

i have absolutely no use for the ipad, but i kind of want one. hopefully my bf will get one so i can play with it:p

anyone who still thinks there will be an "ipad 3" this year are on drugs or are just ignorant.

if they went out of their way to spell it out and say this is the year of the ipad 2, then why in god's green earth would they release another one this year? quit dreaming people (who believe that rumor).

Almost as heavy. Still no real GPS. Same price is doing me a "favor" with all the competition offering thinner, lighter, cheaper, more open OS? I know we all hate flash, but the reality is 25% of the top 100 pages on the net still use it, so we can either have access to it or not have access, they go with #2 to try and make a statement. Comparing your year-old platform to one that hasn't even been released yet? Wow, Apple w\o Jobs is really tanking quick. This is like the 80s where Apple had everything going for it then just gave it all up to be satisfied with 10% forever. It's all just a mess, this is Android's year.
.

umm, i guess your tr0lling, but you should know that given the high sales of ipads and iphones, it is clear a significant and very profitable market exists in which running Flash or the so called "openness" has absolutely no value . So who cares about it being "android's year?" if a very large segment of the population simply does not care about this.

Queue the flamer responses. It's hard to see Apple fall short this year. I was really hoping they'd wow us with something to give all the new Android tablets a run for the money.

I'm not buying, more for the rest of you.

Bella, help me out here. I've had $500 burning a hole in my pocket since Christmas. Which thinner, lighter, cheaper tablet would you recommend amongst all of the competition? I'm not interested in a 7" or smaller tablet. Wi-fi will be sufficient, definitely nothing subsidized that will tie me to a contract. No resistive screens. If it's android, I also don't want anything that can't be upgraded to 3.0 or later.

Please provide links. Thanks

Crickets....:D

I didn't see them on the slide...

Also, Apple cannot expect people to do "serious" movie editing on 256 MB of RAM. There is no way it is 256.

Could GarageBand even run well on 256 MB on top of what other apps and the system uses?

the problem for me with iMovie on the iPad is you're pretty much limited to the footage you take with it. shame, cuz the idea of touch-editing on a screen that size sounds cool.

Just watched the video. Amazing. Loved it.

"Technology alone is not enough [...] in these post-PC devices. And a lot folks in the tablet market are rushing in, and they are looking at this as the next PC. An hardware and a software done by different companies, and talking about speed and feeds just like are PC."

why would it have to be ipad only video? i'm pretty sure you could send files over via e-mail or something then edit it on there, couldn't you?

right. of course streaming video for 6 hours would put you over the 2gb cap. lol.

LOL AT&T would never sell a capped unlimited data plan.

Certainly not meaning it in a negative way but I personally still can't find a use for this thing.
I can see why millions do but I'm not one of them yet.
Now if I could use it as a dumb terminal to my iMac so that I could read letters, recipes, look at graphic files and access my other data etc then it starts to have some relevance.

I haven't seen anything on the usual blogs/websites about the pricing of data plans for either the AT&T or VZW versions of this. For me, this is a huge factor in my decision to buy or not.

Currently, I'm on the original, truly "unlimited" plan from AT&T. Will I be able to migrate this to an iPad 2 from AT&T? If not, might VZW be offering unlimited data plans on this for a limited time, similar to what they did with the iPhone 4?

If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it. I intend to either call Apple online and/or drop by an Apple store today--but I strongly suspect that nobody will have a definitive answer just yet.

You can't migrate your plan to a different device. If you have the iPhone and AT&T enables the hot spot feature, it's a good option. Just remember your unlimited data plan isn't really unlimited though, but when you're away from real wi-fi it would be better than spending more money that you don't need to spend.

AT&T seems to be sticking with their current plans. I don't know about Verizon. The plans for the Xoom really stink and require a contract.

That MacBook I bought is looking less and less impressive every day I see the iPad. And now this? I pretty much melted with joy when I saw this. By the way, white looks awesome.

I can't seem to find the specs for memory, and I didn't catch it announced in the presentation. Am I missing it, or is it conveniently not being mentioned this time around? Surely it was boosted from 256 MB

And I love Jobs jabs at the competition playing catch up and going back to the drawing board, and the "the competition doesn't get it and is trying to treat this like the pc market in specs" comment. I'm calling it now. iPad 3 will be smoking hot on the inside and beefed up significantly. They might have gotten this baby thinner, but I'm really underwhelmed and not swayed on my temptation to get me some honey fresh from the comb.

I highly recommend against getting a Xoom/Honeycomb! (I assume that's what you're alluding to). I was also impressed by the demos, videos, etc. but was terribly disappointed when I actually got my hands on one. It's laggy, unresponsive, UI looks unrefined (jaggies, indiscernible elements), etc. Its browser was also slow. Not to mention that it doesn't have 1% of the tablet-optimized apps of the App Store.

I'm an Apple fan, but not a blind one. I passed on the first-gen iPad, and was waiting to compare iPad 2 vs. Xoom vs. Touchpad. I used to think quite highly of the Xoom and was tempted by it. But getting my hands on one was a different story altogether.

iPad 2, even when running iOS 4.3 (as opposed to 5), looks 10 times as refined as Honeycomb.

SUCKS!

And facetime! Give me a break. With the VGA camera, if you facetime with someone, their face will literally appear as a bunch of blobs.

This is why they only spoke of the cameras and facetime, and didn't demonstrate them. They would have seriously embarassed themselves.

They did demonstrate it. Scott Forstall Facetime'd with a guy named Michael (forget his name). Hard to discern its quality from a video of a video, but it looked fine to me.

I can't decide between the white or the black!
I watch a lot of movies at night in bed on my iPad and am wondering if the white border will interfere with that. I would really like a white one though.
THOUGHTS?

Dude, take a zanex. Educated opinion is one thing, trolling is another.

Um, wut? The 3G model of the first has GPS (just like the new 3G model), so you may want to try *reading* in the future...

Why don't you read that word in front of GPS... assisted. Assisted GPS requires a wireless carrier's network unlike "real" GPS that just connects to the GPS satellites.
Funny, I don't recall seeing "cheaper" amongst any of the serious Android offerings. Just because you can buy a $200 suck-tab from China doesn't make it comparable...
Funny, because only 1 tablet is on the market and with a price. The Xoom. There are 100 others coming in the next 12 months. 100. They didn't with hold pricing for their health. They were waiting to see what apple did. The tablet wars are just beginning.

Yeah, like all the people on Android 3.0 who have Flash already... Oh wait, Adobe's still got them on the "real soon now" train. BTW, have you seen the reviews of the existing Flash implementations? (hint: slow, buggy, crashes the device)
Honeycomb has been out for 1 week. Flash is due in a month. Honeycomb isn't the mobile android slapped on a tablet. Do you read much about tech? The coming tablets also have the balls to run flash that most phones haven't.

Yep, nothing says "year-old" like a brand-new hardware platform with a new OS release...

Because they put the new iPad together in the 45ish days since Steve took a leave of absence, amirite?

No need for a queue - MR lets you post this garbage without a waiting period.

You'd make a great parent: "Little Johnny hasn't gone to college yet? He's two years old - he must be a complete washout!"
At least the OP's kids will be fully informed. "Hey son, a toilet is a toilet." "Sir, your kid is taking a crap in the urinal." Just like GPS is GPS. Seriously, don't be an ass to people for their opinion. Especially when you are talking out of your butt in your rude response and clearly show how uneducated your opinion is. There's being pointed, but that parenting skill line was just rude. And seriously, please explain to your kids there are differences in toilets like you missed on the GPS. The janitor will thank you too.

Wait until that enormous server warehouse in North Carolina turns on!

Honestly. I thought the iPad was gonna be thinner with a camera.

But no! They made it white; with those epic colored smart cases, it has a gyroscope, ahh...

I'm IN LOVE.

Honestly, do you think it would be that terrible of me to just feint about the iPad 3 and run a grab a 2? Who else likes the fact it's WHITE?

I honestly don't care about resolution. I am just freakin' in LOVE.

Youre in love with it because it's white? You really need to get a clue.
