Look, when you wait for something in anticipation and are told that it won't be coming after all, that's very naturally disappointing. People are only cruising through this thread and expressing their disappointment. Some people are more animated about it than others. Welcome to the human race; this is what we do. No need to be disrespectful.

I stated that if you don't like something then don't buy it. Simple enough.

I'm sure you think any criticism is disrespectful. In that case, your post was disrespectful, too. Same goes for your buddies who tried to send angry messages to Tim Cook on this forum (as if he's really reading it). That's messed up.

But they would have anticipated eventual supply shortages too. You can't develop a mass-produced device without considering supplies. Perhaps it was indeed a risk they didn't want to take, knowing that there would be strong demand for the new iPhones and iPad Air.

Anticipation rarely ever matches reality in this market. Just look at Apple stock if you want proof.

Stretched resources, with dev on the iPad Pro, :apple:watch, Retina iMac and iPad Air 2, they needed to delay. Even the iPad Pro was pushed back and that's a priority for them right now. I think the iPad Mini will catch up to the iPad Air 2 sometime Feb/Mar of 2015.

How hard would it have been to just drop in the A8 and M8? They don't even need to make a different chip; the one in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus would've been sufficient (and it's not like the iPad mini is too thin for it). It would've been easy for them to do that and maybe add in 802.11ac and leave the design exactly as is.

Actually, I believe the message I commented on was:

I never said people can't vent. Nor can I stop it. I'm just pointing out how sad it is that people are such babies.

Because really, I have no problem with the "If you don't like it, don't buy it" logic. I mean, the fact that you can't exactly buy a competitor product running the same OS and with the same features totally renders that argument moot, but if you're tired of hearing people complain, it's a substantially better way to shut people up than "sad that people are such babies" which only serves to make you look like a jerk.

Honestly, between people saying the kind of stuff you say here, the DEVOUT fanboys, and the CareBears policies of these forums, trolls, I sort of stopped caring a while ago. But when you act like that, it pisses people off and then they get more emotional than needed and that just wastes time and energy. I am not offended by you or the things you say, only the time and energy that it wastes. Telling a thread of people that what they're upset about is dumb IS DUMB. Don't let me stop you though. Troll away to your heart's content.

Came around to the thread's way of thinking and bought the iPad Mini 2 instead. It's pretty good value now after the price drop. Just couldn't justify the 3 - not having Touch ID is kind of annoying, but not £120 worth of annoying and certainly not worth validating Apple's greed / lack of effort on this one.

Might upgrade next year if it's brought back in line with the full size one. Just wasn't going to spend this year's prices on last year's technology.

Indeed. Very disappointed. For one year only the mini is a worthwhile investment, apparently.
The best thing they ever did was make it feature-wise identical to the Air.
I guess what they have done is forced me to buy an air, which I'm annoyed about.
The Air update was much more extensive than I would have thought, had they done that same thing with the mini it would have been the perfect tablet. But no. :apple:

I don't understand. What can you not do with the iPad mini 3 that has 'forced' you to buy an Air 2?

I bought my mini 2 last year (my first iPad!) and it's still more than good enough for my needs and I certainly don't need to upgrade. It could easily last me at least another 2-3 years.

Well, perhaps it's because the iPad Mini will be thinner and have the same features of the iPad Air 2.

My point was, I have the money to buy the latest model iPad mini, but I would like to spend that money buying the best tech/features available. $400 will just get me last year's iPad mini, and there's no way to spend any amount of money and buy an iPad mini with the significant enhancements of the iPad Air 2.
So by not updating the mini, given that I want the features of the Air 2, they have "forced" me to buy the Air.
Which I'm annoyed at because I like the size of the mini. But now anyone who wants the latest features and/or speed is forced to get the largest iPad.
E.g. I have the 11" Air, because again, I like the small size. But if Apple updated the 13" while leaving the 11" with last year's model, wouldn't people be annoyed? Just because we're buying a smaller model, doesn't mean we want a slower model! The difference between the Air and rMini should be screen size, that's it (ala Apple's other product lines)

The new mini just isn't enough of an update imo. I ended up purchasing the mini 2 as I think that is better value for money. I'm not interested in touch ID on a tablet abs Apple pay won't be coming to the UK for a while yet.

The Air 2 is a good update but the mini is lacking.

I too find the mini 3 to be a big disappointment. Some have said this seems to indicate that Apple will be deprecating the mini line but that is only speculation. My take on this is that what Apple wanted to do with the mini is just not feasible at this time hence the weak update. It's speculation but I want to believe that Apple is going for an edgeless display for the mini like the iphones and Touch have.. Purely speculation here but Apple could be going to drop the Touch from it's lineup and replacing it with an borderless mini4. Going borderless would allow the mini to drop that area to become still smaller and provide a new product for their line that fits the need of those who want a smaller ipad.
I was planning on getting a new mini to complement my Air but I think it makes more sense to me to upgrade to an Air2 which is a decent upgrade and prepare to be in awe of what the mini4 will bring and get that for out and about usage.

I just got the mini 4 cellular. It's not as big an upgrade as I hoped for but it is good enough and much better than what the mini 3 offered. Looks like I'll be alternating the mini and air as they get updated on a two year cycle.
