Shame there is no UK price yet, they are still showing the old PAYG price for the 8GB model. That can't be right can it?

It better go down significantly! Most I'd want to pay for the 32GB model is £400. That's if it is available straight away - when the iPhone 3G was first introduced it wasn't available.

What's the "standard iPhone upgrade fee" that is available on 12/12/2009?

I like the features for this phone but I don't want to have to pay a stupid tax to get my hands on it next week.

I hope everyone realizes Apple is screwing everyone that was nice enough to be day 1 upgraders every time. We have to pay an extra $200 to upgrade!!! That is crazy!! 499 instead of 299. Hopefully someone at apple realizes this is really unfair to the loyal fans of apple products.

What I do like:
1. Snow Leopard upgrade for existing Leopard users just for $29
2. Getting rid off MacBooks – good idea
3. Finally TomTom is in
4. Stupid name for new iPhone…will create more confusion.
5. “Find My iPhone” feature
6. Generally new approach to games and apps from developers perspective.

What I do not like:
1. Where is Steve Jobs?
2. BS about new eco screen with arsenic-free glass for iPhone…where is OLED?
3. No iChat AV with front camera
4. Improved performance, Built-in video camera with editing, Voice Control, Compass and 32 GB storage is not worth’ish an upgrade. Myself waiting another 12 months.
5. AT&T blocking Tethering and MMS for now…its just lol, however I do not care because I live in UK😉
6. Having say that why O2 don’t say anything yet on their website?

iPhone 3G S: The "S" is for...

..."Sucker! -- you thought that AT&T would/could provide bandwidth to support any of this? HA! If you are in Midtown NYC, you can't even get a normal phone call, much less send a text e-mail. 'More bars in more places' is just marketing BS for 'It would work if you were somewhere else -- we promise!. No, seriously.'"

MMS on the iPhone. Gimme a break.

I'd be happy waiting a month until I can get the subsity. The fact that I'd have to pay $399 in the interim though is insane. I'll be waiting until I've hit the one year mark.

Existing iPhone 3G owners will have to pay approximately $200 over subsidized pricing to upgrade:

I'd laugh if they tried to make ATT contract owners "trade in" + give the $200.

It looks like it costs 175 - ((# of month you had your phone) * 5) + 36 to cancel the current contract and pay a new activation fee. This is less than the 200 + 18 they want to "upgrade" 16GB 3G to 32GB 3GS.

The question is how much is your current number worth to you, I guess.

I wonder what happens after 1 year, since mine is up in late July.

Wow! How generous of AT&T. Existing iPhone owners are treated to a $200 surcharge to extend their contracts another year, and AT&T's logo was nowhere to be found on the list of carriers supporting tethering. Of course, AT&T will come in with late tethering support... for an additional $40 per month.

When exactly did Gordon Gekko replace Randall Stephenson on AT&T's board, anyway?

Pre-order issues on Apple's website?

I've tried several times to pre-order an iPhone 3GS. I am an original iPhone 2G customer (never upgraded to 3G) and I am eligible for upgrade pricing from AT&T. When I type my info (SS#, phone #, etc.) on Apple's iPhone upgrade page, it tells me the price ($299 for 32GB version), but when I go through to the final page, it tells me the following:

AT&T was unable to set up your account online. To reserve your new iPhone, click the Continue button to find the nearest Apple Retail Store so we can help you in person. When you stop in, a Specialist will be ready to help you complete your account setup, personalize your new iPhone and get it ready to make calls, browse the web, receive email, and more.*

Is anyone else getting this when attempting to pre-order the new iPhone?

bummer about the upgrade price for current 3g customers, I think I will wait until next summer

Got mine pre-ordered

I pre-ordered a 32 GB 3GS. I was only charged an $18 upgrade fee to upgrade from my 1st gen iPhone (also $18 activation and higher data plan rate). I really hope it gets here by Father's Day!

Apple really let me down today. Yeah, the new iPhone 3GS is faster and can record video, but c'mon, those aren't good selling points. Phones have been recording video for years now, and Apple is advertising this "new" feature as if they are the first to put video recording capabilities into a phone. If they really wanted to blow us out of the water, and steal the hype from the Pre, they should have made physical modifications to the phone to separate it more from the iPhone 3G. On the news tonight, when they come to the story about Apples new phone, no one is going to be excited when they hear "faster". The original 3G was the "faster" iPhone model, and this is going to appear to be nothing new to current iPhone users. Also, what's the point of releasing 3.0 on the 17th? Once again, if they really wanted to blow us away today, it should have been released today. Perhaps that just me being bitter because I am leaving for the summer and won't be able to get the update before I go, but when it comes down to it, Apple really hyped us up for nothing. iPhone 3GS is going to sell just as well as the other iPhones, no doubt, but coming from someone like me who still sometimes regrets leaving Verizon to get a 3G would have liked to see something bigger this time around. If the GM version of 3.0 is being seeded to developers today, it should be released to all of us today. Apple is so worried about our excitement and anticipation that they forget about the let down factor. 3.0 is clearly done, and releasing it on the 17th makes no sense to me. ATT, a leading mobile phone company should have MMS available, and tethering for that matter, ASAP. That was very surprising to me when I heard that.

Apple needs to stop jumping into new products and leaving defective products in the dust. Why does my iPhone 3G constantly freeze up? Why is restarting my phone a daily recurrence? It would be nice to see these issues addressed instead of more laptop releases three months after new ones are announced. Apple doesn't have its priorities in order, whatsoever.

Has anyone been able to reserve a new phone through Apple's site? I keep getting:

"We experienced an error in processing your request. Please try again later."

I talked to AT&T, I was told I could do a secure upgrade and have to wait 3 days to get the phone (pay the 299 plus 18 fee) or wait until 7/12 at which time I can get the 299+18 and just sign a new 2 year deal.

I was told the same exact thing. If I wait until July I can get the subsidized price, if I tried to do it before then , I will have to pay the outrageous price.
I can wait... no big deal.
Really not too impressed but then again never had my hopes too high.
What I am really curious about is the way video recording will work.
On Apples website shows that only the new 3Gs will be able to video record and not the 3G.
At any rate , waiting will show what is inside the device after someone dismantles it!lol

I enjoyed watching Apple completely steal every single last bit of Palm's steam they had "built up" over the weekend.

Too bad the Pasco guy doing the demo couldn't tap into some of it though 😉

Eligible in July?

Since I bought the 3G on launch - it looks like I will again be eligible to an upgrade (at the subsidized price) in July.

Thoughts?

that white iPhone is so freeeeeking sexy. when i upgrade after my new contract ends sometime in the near future... that will be the iPhone for me

how did you swing this? I got my 3g on launch day and it shows that i will only be able to get one for $399 upgrade pricing (16gig). How did you get the $299 (32gb im assuming) pricing on a 3g upgrade?

I was expecting to be let down today with the new iPhone, but what an utter disappointment. Can Apple please release the important specs on the new iPhone at a minimum?? How difficult is that?

Im keeping my 3G until the case cracks again 🙂

I don't get it. Will someone please explain why AT&T penalizes their loyal and existing customers with higher prices. I am trying to keep an open mind, but can't. This is a deal breaker for me. Liked the phone but not enough to pay the extra.

Waited in line on launch day for both 1st gen and 3G. Now ATT wants to hose me on an upgrade to the 3GS? They can suck my cojones!! I'll wait and see if Apple and ATT decide to give us current owners a break. If not, I'll be on the sidelines along with every single current 3G iPhone owner that I know....
