Next, we will start seeing new Android phones with taller screen because they found that consumers never really wanted wider phones. Next year magically Android phones starts losing weight getting skinner and gaining height.

Copy Cats are coming!!!

Apple copied bigger screen size. Omg. Really, what I just said is just as ridiculous ad your statement.

It astounds me the amount of people that visit these forums to troll or voice their disappointment in Apple’s releases, or simply state their preference for another brand. Good for you. Now off you go to your Android forums.

I’m an iPhone user – I have been since they arrived on our shores and I have never once in my life visited an Android forum to tote my opinion about how I prefer iOS for this reason or that.

Then we have the complainers who whine that they were expecting something more surprising. What did you want in the iPhone 5? A coffee machine? A laser pointing device? A direwolf? I think it’s a very nice upgrade.

Apple choose not to reinvent the wheel because they made a pretty damned good wheel to begin with. This phone is lighter, stronger, thinner, with a larger screen, two better cameras and will have all the added functionality of iOS6 to boot.

I figure there are two types of people in the world - those who have an iPhone, and those who are too proud to admit they want one.

I’ll be getting one, and I’ll be happy.

I guess people who in general don't like iOS and really wish WP8 was on the iPhone 5 don't exists? Hmmm, last time I checked, I'm real.

I don't know what you guys are complaining about. They could of released an iPhone that gave you a blowjob and you would still gripe over tiny little things.

That would be awesome. And what's sick is its possible add on. Maybe you should make it. Lol

I honestly do not understand people being unhappy about the iPhone 5.

It has one of the most innovative and clear cameras on any phone. The only phone that excites me camera wise is the Lumia 920. And they both seem to be bloody close. (Though I want to see the low light performance of the iPhone 5 first)

It has the A15 core. This is a HUGE update. The first of the next generation processor architecture is inside the iPhone.

It's screen is the first embedded touch control screen on the market.

It's thinner, has a larger screen, yet has the same amount of battery time, if not more, than the previous gen iPhones.

So what were people waiting for as they are not happy about it?

128GB storage? octa-core cpu? 5 day battery life? 6 inch display? what exactly?

Just read my previous post(s).

I find it so very hard to read these forums anymore. I just don't understand what people want. If you don't like the new iPhone, that is perfectly acceptable but I don't understand how people can claim that Apple isn't innovating. They took the iPhone 4s, made it thinner, made the screen longer, and managed to put more in it. Do people not understand the engineering that goes into taking technology and making it smaller and just as solid? You can claim that everything is minor specs but in one year, the engineering and design team at Apple has rewritten how technology can be used. How is that not innovation? Go to your Galaxy SIII. It will be "innovated" in the next couple months anyways.
There are thinner phones out there, so stop saying that "the engineering and design team at Apple has rewritten how technology can be used", because that's just bollocks.

Yes, it's a great phone, some can even say a fantastic phone, but has there been a drastic changes since iPhone 4? No. It's thinner, lighter, faster, bigger. These are incremental improvements. That's why people can claim that there is little innovation.

Apple simply play it safe. They have a product that they know will sell no matter what - and it will, because it is a great phone. But some people seek for things that the iPhone cannot provide.

How is it innovative? It's a great camera, but far from innovative.

From what I recall on older Qualcomm materials, SVDO should be available on the MSM9600 series. (so assuming plans have not changed, and my memory isn't completely faded, yes we'll have SVDO support on the phone.)

1) It's one radio to handle all cell communications. It reconfigures itself using whatever parts are attached to find the optimal cell band and technology for the situation it's in. (given the attached components)

2) The chip does voice and data. That's kind of a given for any cell chipset. Pretty much every 3G chipset does that.
But the reason we've waited so long for Apple to go LTE is because it's only been recently that there is a chip that can do voice over LTE, not just data over LTE.

The chip in the iPad, I think is data over LTE only.
HTC Thunderbolt? data over LTE only.
What was the issue? Battery life sucks when you need to run two radios at once. (3G for voice, LTE for data).

3) If you're in a 3G area, then you're using 3G. You'll have voice and data on 3G.

Can someone please help me tackle the SV-DO possibility with this new iPhone 5 on Verizon's 3G network? Talking about Verizon only, here.

For those who do not know, by SV-DO I am referring to simultaneous voice and data while on Verizon's 3G [CDMA[] network.

The Apple event stated: "Single chip [for voice and data], single radio, dynamic antenna."

QUESTIONS!

1) What does the single radio do?

2) The chip does voice and data. Can someone explain this? Does it do it when in either LTE or 3G (or sub-3G) areas?

3) Is the following scenario possible? Scenario: while in a Verizon 3G area -- the phone will use the radio for data and the LTE chip for voice?

Let's break this down, please! Trying to understand if Apple's implementation is actually an SVDO implementation without it really even being talked about. SVDO is never talked about or advertised.

Is the A6 chip just higher clocked Cortex A9/PowerVR 543 cores at 32nm?

No. It's not.

There are things that e.g. Android and Windows Phone can do, and the iPhone cannot. The openness of the OS API which allows you to perform a ton of things iOS cannot do (the "closed" vs. "curated" debate...), NFC sharing, NFC device syncing, the widget system, iPhone is still using a physical home button (instead of a virtual button like e.g. the Galaxy Nexus, where there's more real estate), the quality of the screen (note that I haven't seen iPhone's 5 screen, but there are better screens than iPhone 4S's one) etc. etc. I've posted my personal list somewhere but cannot find it.

I don't think it's a terrible phone (in fact I think it's great) and I don't understand people who claim that, but I do understand people who are disappointed with it (because I am a bit disappointed too).

You may disagree with the above, but I'm just explaining what other people may think.

There's multiple models for the same reason as why there's multiple models of the Galaxy S3, the iPad 3, and practically every 3G phone that works on both AT&T and T-mobile (in the US):

Chips to support different bands cost money, space, and energy; and it apparently becomes worth it to not put in chips that will go unused in every phone.

I would have thought they would have simplified manufacture and inventory by making another GSM/CDMA model like the 4S. Maybe the LTE chip precludes this. Not a big deal, I guess; I'm wedded to GSM but I can't pass my 'old' phones on to my grandsons after the 4S since they are all on their families' Verizon plans. Where I live Verizon doesn't have the coverage that AT&T got when it acquired UNICEL. Plus I travel to Europe, so only GSM works for me.

Obviously a great deal of engineering effort went into these upgrades; maybe that's why we don't have new Mac Pro and iMac models. Even a big firm like Apple can probably only handle so much.

I think it's a worthy upgrade and will pre-order one later this week. I frankly don't understand the people who are disappointed.

Honestly, why do Apple apologist keep making excuses? Same when the 4s came out "What did you expect"?

We (as gadget fans, not necessary apple fan) expect Apple to catch up to the competition and raise the bar a TINY bit. Not catch up to last year hardware. Lumia 920 introduce image stabilization, wireless charging using a standard (qi), and a new touch screen. Three things that NO ONE ELSE HAS.

Apple did not even implement NFC, basically rendering Passport a gimped piece of crap. And please do not play the "We dont need it" card that apologist love ****ing throwing around, because NFC is pretty ****ing amazing and useful. Tap on NFC device to pay with credit card. Tap on a NFC sticker to log onto password protected wifi. Tap on NFC enable phone to share. Its the bare ****ing minimum Apple should implement on the iPhone 5 and they didnt do it.

Fail all the way.

No innovation under Tim 'Scaramanga' Cook

Koreans innovate, Apple don't

At least the Barista in my local Starbucks seemed happy this morning and millions of other Baristas around the world too. lol. fail. lol.

Given that there will be an iPhone 5S next year we are stuck with this piece of toy like junk for another 2 years... great.

Samsung all the way baby... Gangnam Style.

What exactly are you guys expecting that are disappointed in this update? Are you really expecting the gigantic leap that occurred with the initial iPhone and later Android phones relative to the existing, archaic Blackberry and Palm devices?

In case you haven't noticed, new phones are released every month that are not drastic departures from the models they replaced.

I cannot say this update will make me order the iPhone 5 since my contract is up for renewal, but I am really trying to figure out what you guys were expecting. I'd love the S3 but I am concerned about its Exchange functionality/reliability, so I will likely just stay with the iPhone 4.

I did not expect anything else but what was released but it was disappointing enough. The sad thing is that my expectations and wants are completely different thing. I wanted:
- a new hardware design (the new one looks too much of iPhone 4)
- same aspect ratio screen but bigger like 4.3" putting less space on top and bottom
- major overhaul of the UI meaning UI elements in general, possibility to add information you want to the lockscreen and some new features to usability.

The internet is full of innovation added to iOS usability but it seems that Apple is too slow to implement any of those ideas. The only true iOS innovation lies on the jailbreak side.

Its a good phone, but there has really been no shape change since the iPhone 4. The 2g to 3g there was a change and same from the 3gs to the 4 that was a massive change.
I guess after 2.5+ years we were all hoping for something that was going to innovate and change the market all over again.

The new iPod Touch is an innovation it looks cool, with new features and design. Why couldn't apple produce something like that with the iPhone.

That is why I will be selling my S2 for the Lumia 920 instead of the iPhone. The Lumia 920 has a fresh new look great feature new camera, display(which is much better then the iPhones refresh rate is 2.5X faster) and Windows phone 8.
I hate the Windows PC OS but their phone OS is a different story smooth as silk with hardly any bugs. I'm glad to see Nokia is making a come back I owned Nokia phones for 6 years my 1st phone and sequential phones were all Nokia until I got my first smartphone.

I will be glad to return to the makers of the world's best mobile, indestructible and innovation for the future :D

It is cool, thin and sexy:cool: (though there's no secrecy :D). I will never go for Samsung GS3 or other Android phones, I'm staying with :apple: :) I don't care about its hardware as long as it satisfies my needs. I really love iOS, so there's no way for me to switch to Android. ;)

So basically ''innovation'' for you guys means, just a new design, that's what you can tell from the comments, just because they didn't change the design it doesn't mean it's not innovative, look at all the things that go on the inside or the new screen the same yet better camera battery life, etc, I for one i was kinda hoping they would have another design, but that doesn't mean they haven't innovated it, plus it would be a great update from my iPhone 4

Interesting to read all the negative comments from people who, unless they were at the event yesterday, haven't picked up an iPhone 5 yet. I don't know if I'm going to upgrade from my 4S, but I at least want to try the iPhone 5 for myself before deciding. I also want to see if it handles voice calls better than previous models. Oddly enough, I often use my iPhone as... a phone.

They are the exact same comments when the 3GS was released. Then again the same when the 4S was released. Nothing new really.

"Apple is doomed" "they can't innovate" etc etc.

I have yet to read a hands on initial review that knocked the design. Every one I've read seemed quite impressed with how thin and light yet solid and steadily the phone feels, especially compared to competitors plastic phones (e.g.Samsung) and several mentioned it being more comfortable to hold than the 4S. I think this is one where until you get your hands on it you won't appreciate it.

As far as the display size, does anyone really think Apple couldn't make a 4.3" or 4.5" device if they wanted to? It's not like it's something they would have to imagine, there are plenty of larger phones on the market. And its not like a bigger screen is more difficult to produce. It seems to me they placed a premium on comfortably fitting in the average hand with one handed operation. Now maybe they made the wrong bet here and if so we'll see it soon enough with sales data. But to me it has nothing to do with being innovative or not, it's just a different philosophy. Just like their stance on tablet/laptop hybrid devices. Or Amazon's philosophy of as Bezos said, making money when you use their devices not when you buy them. Different philosophies, not more or less innovative.

Bwuahaha

Someone getting exited here ? Get an Android, see whether that's better for your blood pressure.

Just wondering what happened to those comments suggesting that this is a fake prototype, and that those leaks were all controlled leaks...

Probably the same thing as all those comments insisting it would be called the iPhone 6 and rubbishing peoples' explanations that it would be the 5

Oh yes I want one

But with prices STARTING at GBP 519, it's time to say stop. I've bought every upgrade all along since the first one, but this is just too steep - after all, it's just a phone, so I'll start using my iPad more.
