Cool story bro, now go away.

To the rest of the complainers that inevitably were going to bombard this place after the announcement....what were you expecting? This isn't 10 years ago when there was huge untapped market and design space to fill. Smart phones are mainstream now. Android phones tend towards gigantic screens. Great. Apple chooses a more subtle design and smaller size that can be managed by most people with a single hand. What else exactly is there? Is a tapered back, different corners, colors, really going to revolutionize the phone industry? NO. Get used to it, this is the future of smart phones. They do almost everything we need them to do already....so the upgrades are going to continue to be refinements, whether its Apple Samsung Motorolla etc. This particular iPhone addresses areas of potential improvement across the board. There really isn't much else to be improved upon so at this point you are either on board with the Apple Ecosystem, or you aren't.

Glad you read my "cool" story. And I'm not going anywhere bro. I am a consumer and I am allowed to voice my support or displeasure wherever I please. Now stick that in your "ecosystem". :)

Would it be weird to say that I love the new iPhone and that it is everything I was hoping for?

It's perfect! It's superfast, the camera is superfast, its build quality is top-notch (unibody aluminium, can't top that) and the screen size is perfect.

Really, what's NOT to like?

Lol at the trolls

It astounds me the amount of people that visit these forums to troll or voice their disappointment in Apple’s releases, or simply state their preference for another brand. Good for you. Now off you go to your Android forums.

I’m an iPhone user – I have been since they arrived on our shores and I have never once in my life visited an Android forum to tote my opinion about how I prefer iOS for this reason or that.

Then we have the complainers who whine that they were expecting something more surprising. What did you want in the iPhone 5? A coffee machine? A laser pointing device? A direwolf? I think it’s a very nice upgrade.

Apple choose not to reinvent the wheel because they made a pretty damned good wheel to begin with. This phone is lighter, stronger, thinner, with a larger screen, two better cameras and will have all the added functionality of iOS6 to boot.

I figure there are two types of people in the world - those who have an iPhone, and those who are too proud to admit they want one.

I’ll be getting one, and I’ll be happy.

Can't wait to upgrade my Ipod touch on September 14 (pre-order).
I wish they included 128 GB of RAM with GPS :(
But I'm happy with A5 CPU and retina display. COOL.

Next, need to buy iPad mini, hopefully next month. :)
My girlfriend just wont give my ipad 3 back to me :(

NFC? Where exactly are you going to use it?

Card slot? Really?

More Storage? 64GB not enough for you?

3D? Sure thing. The 3DS is a real barn burner for sales.

Haptic Feedback? No thanks, I prefer better battery life. I have a One X and its disabled for a reason.

Augmented Reality? Yes, because this is a revolution. I am sure Nokia is going to light up sales with this feature.

NFC to transfer data quickly between two devices, store credit card information, for a lot of things.

Card slot - yes, more connectivity options why not?

3D if done correctly.

Haptic Feedback will make the keyboard more responsive.

Augmented Reality again if done correctly.

Your complaints are only valid because the implementations have been bad ... Apple did revolutionize the smartphone because they made previously poor technology better - they can do the same with the above and make the iPhone a market leader again.

I wonder why separate GSM and CDMA?

I would have thought they would have simplified manufacture and inventory by making another GSM/CDMA model like the 4S. Maybe the LTE chip precludes this. Not a big deal, I guess; I'm wedded to GSM but I can't pass my 'old' phones on to my grandsons after the 4S since they are all on their families' Verizon plans. Where I live Verizon doesn't have the coverage that AT&T got when it acquired UNICEL. Plus I travel to Europe, so only GSM works for me.

Obviously a great deal of engineering effort went into these upgrades; maybe that's why we don't have new Mac Pro and iMac models. Even a big firm like Apple can probably only handle so much.

I think it's a worthy upgrade and will pre-order one later this week. I frankly don't understand the people who are disappointed.

Eureka!

As I followed the live feeds and watched the recording I couldn't help but feel rather disappointed by the iPhone 5 announcement. I couldn't really put my finger on why that was the case.
I read through many of the comments on MR about how "It's only incremental.", "I guess I'm going to the Galaxy IIVX now", how "it isn't innovative", etc and then those that defended the iPhone mentioning all of the very good technologies and engineering feats that made it what it is. These didn't really offer me much comfort either.
I then had my Eureka moment as I used my last chip to finish off the salsa and grabbed an apple (the fruit). I realized my disappointment came from the fact that my current iPhone 4 does everything I want and that I felt no need or reason to upgrade. The new iPhone is wonderful. I feel it is a huge leap forward, BUT I don't need it. In that lies my lack of enthusiasm.

The views expressed are solely those of Namjins and don't necessarily reflect those of anyone else.

It would be nicer if all the iHaters who have no intention of purchasing an Apple product left too. :)

New processor: who cares as long as it runs fine? How many people demand 100% cpu power?

Bigger screen? Still to small for me 3.5" was abysmall, 4" is barely any bigger

Better screen? Compared to competitors nothing better

Better camera? Compared to competitors nothing better

Thinner: who cares

More durable then glass? gee how hard was that?

Lte : Compared to competitors nothing better

New look is nice, and better battery we will see (but I hope at least there it will excel)

No, nothing really fantastic disapointing .
1. Screen is still bigger. Get a note of you want a huge screen
2. Have you compared it?
3. Have you seen any comparison shots?
4. What do you mean who cares? Thinner will not only make it look better, but the obsession for thinness means that battery tech advances and components become cooler.
5. Aluminium is very durable
6. What do competitors have that is better?

So how is it underwhelming? What did you want?

Android users like to swap out batteries because their oversized underengineered overclocked Android phones all have no battery life. All those LTE phones that came out before Apple finally released one were using early power-hungry LTE chips that drained the phone very quickly. Their screens are thick and huge, requiring a lot more power to match the iPhone's brightness. All the flagship Android phones have abysmal battery life under real world conditions because Android customers only care about spec sheets and not usability.

Apple spends a lot of money and effort to make everything else smaller inside the box so there's more battery, and optimize their software for battery life. To an Android user, they just don't understand the concept of a phone that can last all day long without running out of juice. So, they see that the iPhone battery can't be swapped and think that's a bad thing.

Taking quite a leap there. My Galaxy S3 lasts 20hrs with moderate usage. I swap my battery every night before bed and it is usually at 45% left. My wifes iphone 4s doesn't get nearly that. She is always running for the charger. She has one next to her bed, in her car, in the kitchen. I never plug mine in, just swap the battery every night before bed.

But I want a new phone to fill that intangible void I feel in my soul!

Ah but that can only happen if the screen size is 4.5" (or more). Because a large screen is the epitome of innovation. If only Apple was as innovative as Samsung we'd have a 5" plastic phone. :D

You're forgetting those of us who do love our iPhones, but can also be critical of apple's revisions. I was waiting for this for a long time to upgrade from an iPhone 4, but truthfully iPhone 5 like iPhone 4s before it is not that impressive "for me." what I wanted the most? Larger screen, taller and wider, and sd slot expansion. didn't get either. So I'm looking at the competition. If apple focuses on these two additions I'll have no problem or shame in the future in returning.

Call the iPad mini an iPhone 6 when it comes out—problem solved!

I don't get what people expected apple to do. Every year they upgrade the iphone in a similar fashion. Better CPU, GPU, camera, etc. Every 2 years they have a redesign, which this is. What did you expect a Galaxy S3 with an apple logo on it?

Speaking of Galaxy S3, I don't get why so many are saying "iPhone 5 sucks now i'm getting a S3" when (if you look up comparison videos on youtube) the iPhone 4s beats the S3 in most tests, matches it in some, and loses to it a few times. That's just the 4s! Imagine those same test against the iPhone 5.

People seem to forget that when comparing the S3's hardware specs to iPhone 5; it really doesn't matter because its all in the OS. iOS can achieve much more with less power than its rivals, as exhibited by the 3GS getting iOS6.

+1

Yep I can't believe that a Ferrari Spider does not come in white. So arrogant, so un-innovative! So I'll buy a white Ford instead.

Now THIS is one funny post...

So appropriate it's just hilarious. Ha... Ha... Ha...

You've taken the boredom out of reading all the posts thus far :) :)

mediocre update. I was hoping it would be better, looks like I'll stick with the s3. I like the iphones syncing better, but android does almost everything else better than iOS

Goodbye iPhone....Hello Android....xxxxx.....

Care to explain?

I'm interested to know exactly what android does better as I've never used one apart from my brother's s2 for 30mins and I didn't particularly like it apart from the size of the screen and the weight.

Thanks.
