Apple built macOS 10.14 around dark mode, but left it out of iOS 12? Wtf, Apple? That makes no sense. :( It's probably one of the most requested features thus far. They better at least be saving it for the new hardware reveal in September.

finder Gallery mode is a feature I remember using in Windows XP. :/
It's still in Windows 10.

Stacks on desktop?

Wow, that's a blast from the past. When was this feature concept originally shown? OS X 10.3? I never expected them to be ever implemented. (But I think it was called "Piles" back then.)

No dark mode on iOS? or did they just not announce it because it was a flagship feature for macOS?
iOS won't be getting it if they didn't announce it today. It's a pretty big feature to just gloss over. Maybe they're just getting started with macOS this year and will expand on it further next year. I also think next year iOS is due for a visual design update so that will probably be a part of that. But with the light UI components on the invite and the dark ones on the background during the keynote, I thought for sure we were getting it today across everything. Oh well!

Yeah, I think that's a visual change to differentiate them from a regular notification.

Did they say which Macs are supported??

In 2016 during the MacOS part of the keynote, they flashed a slide with the new system requirements at the end. Since that didn't happen today, it seems very likely that all the same Macs are supported (as is the case on iOS as well), which is great news.
I was thinking the same thing. They were pretty hush about system requirements (nothing on their website, either). Happy to hear that iOS 12 is supported all the way back to the iPhone 5s, but it looks like my Series 0 Apple Watch didn't make the cut for watchOS 5. :( Mojave looks like a decent upgrade (I'm still on Sierra), so I'm hoping to squeeze some more life out of my 2010 MBP.

It would have been a tent pole feature. It’s crazy how macOS has dark mode, watch os is always dark, and tv os even has a dark mode, yet they just continue to omit it from iOS. It’s not like we got any other useful features, just more stupid gimmicks and the same old boring homescreen that virtually unchanged from iOS 1.

It seems like they are really putting all the focus on performance, stability and quality which sure is a nice thing. But it makes for a rather boring update. The improvements to notifications looks great and is one of the much needed improvements. Screen time for parents will also be a HUGE improvement.

macOS 10.14 supports:
• MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
• MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
• MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
• Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
• iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
• iMac Pro (2017)
• Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid 2010 and mid 2012 models with recommended Metal- capable GPU)
*Support for 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models will be available in an upcoming beta

Was heavily implied that all the same macs as before were supported. Like they explicitly said for iOS.

Implied, but now it appears that's not the case. Apple has done it again by dropping a dozen plenty-capable older Mac models simply because the GPU lacks support for Metal.

macOS Mojave will be available this fall as a free software update for Macs introduced in mid-2012 or later, plus 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards.

The supported hardware is listed in the release notes.

Gutted they didn't introduce new hardware. Let's see if this update improves the performance of my mid12 15" MBP until something better comes up.

Early 2011 MBP welp time to upgrade. Officially obsolete now!

Yeah. Just a matter of time before my mid2012 15” unibody will be dropped too. Still, 8 years of support isn’t bad for those with 2010’s.

My 2011 mini is dropped now. Probably not going to bother replacing it. I’ll just move the iTunes server workload somewhere else. Maybe a NUC. The media is stored on my NAS, so I don’t need a lot of local storage.
