I always thought that Safari had the BEST UI, but it just wasn't as flexible from an extension perspective to be my daily driver...Chrome is still king...The Chrome Extensions are just so abundant compared to the handful of useful extensions on Safari...
You might like to try the Orion browser from Kagi. Orion is a WebKit browser, like Safari, but you can use extensions from Firefox and Chrome and it has inbuilt security. It is work in progress and is currently in beta. It’s available from the Orion Discord channel. Many extensions work fine, but with a few the Orion API isn’t yet ready. Think of it as Safari with extensions . . . worth a try?

List of compatible macs:

  1. Available on MacBook Pro (2016 and later), MacBook (2016 and later), MacBook Air (2018 and later), iMac (2017 and later), iMac (5K Retina 27-inch, Late 2015), iMac Pro, Mac mini (2018 and later), and Mac Pro (2019); and iPad Pro, iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (6th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later). Both devices must be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication. To use wirelessly, both devices must have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff turned on and must be within 10 meters (30 feet) of each other. iPad and Mac must not be sharing a cellular and internet connection. To use over USB, you must trust your Mac on the iPad.
Surely that is not correct. Big Sur compatibility goes back to MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013).

Finder still untouched. I hate how it handles “merge” and “overwrite” of files and folders, and without information on what’s to be replaced, and the speed of which copy-move operations perform. Windows still excels in this area.
You forgot to add “Right Size All Columns Individually” option so that columns automatically resize depending on the width of the folder/file name when browsing through various folders? I have never seen it work (started using Macs in 2013).

Right now all this right click feature does is adjusting the width of only one column ones and than that width remain the same for all other columns even if nested folder has very short file names in it.

Browsing files in column view in Finder has been a disaster for years now. ForkLift mostly does the job but at some things it is not good enough to be a full Finder replacement. It is simply time for Apple to fix this completely broken feature.

Do not set high hopes on this for Monterey especially since Finder was not mentioned in the presentation at all.

Very lacklustre update for end users... it's like a point release, not a full new version.
I always find it amusing when people complain that Apple needs to slow development down on macOS to focus on bug fixes and other quality of life stuff. And then when Apple does exactly that (with Monterey), people complain that it's a lackluster release. 🤷‍♂️

I am so excited , tbh the most important two features of the update are "Erase all contents and settings" and "Low Power Mode".

I actually liked what I saw, now I have to seriously think about getting my iMac off Mojave before this comes out ...

So universal control is the closest we get to target mode display in new m1 iMacs? Can I drag and drop for instance Teams window from macbook pro to imac? Or Sketch? Or any other tool, so i use my work laptop programs with home imac m1?

FaceTime and Safari changes. The rest are small

THATS IT? A NEW OS just for updated Safari and FaceTime???

SUCKS!!

From the demo it looks to me that you are controlling the devices screen with the mouse and keyboard from the main machine, rather than sharing the display. The programs are run on the individual devices. You can drag and drop files, but it doesn't look to me as though you can drag apps.

It's not clear at the moment though.

Why is this still not a thing?

And they could do that without releasing a 'whole' new OS. (Safari at least they updated it)

And I don't get why they dropped support for 2013 and most 2014 Macs.

Question is, does MacOS Monterey bring Airplay 2 to the system? (not just in apps like Music in Big Sur)........
