So I've read through all the comments and didn't see the answer to this one. Can I use these (with their fancy spacial audio) to watch a movie that has 5.1 audio and get a similar listening experience to being surrounded by 5.1 speakers?

I believe so.

All I know is, Apple's not getting my money for another pair of these until they replace my defective pair that's about 9 months old and had a battery failure in its charging case!

I took it in to my local Apple store after making a Genius Bar appointment for it, and the lady ran some tests on it. She said, "Oh, it failed the charging test. Definitely defective!" and proceeded to have it sent out to the repair depot for servicing. Depot emailed me to confirm they received them, and the next day? I get email saying they're shipping them back to me with a letter explaining why they didn't repair them.

This is ridiculous! They know they're under warranty. Why didn't the retail store OR the repair depot ship me a replacement pair?!
I'm curious to know what the letter said. Why did they not repair it?

Also, each of my AirPods Pro are not maintaining the same charge or discharge rate, it seems. For example, my left one would quit about 30 minutes BEFORE the right one. When the left one is down to 0%, the right one would have about 12 to 15% battery charge left. It makes me think something is not right.

I want colored airpods...
It is odd that this is still their only device with no color options except white. In the years since the AirPods were first introduced, there still isn't a single option that matches any of their other current devices. White is the worst color for anything that's worn daily, and I would've wrongly predicted a few years ago that there'd be a black or space gray option by now.

I have to disagree with you on this, they do not have very very good ANC anymore. When I tried them in the crowded Apple Store with store music blasting before buying them, you could almost hear nothing. Now walk in to a crowded Apple Store today with the Gen 1's on and tell me you hear nothing.
It pretty much blocks out a busy NYC subway station no problem, which is a lot louder than a crowded Apple store, maybe your APPs don't seal as well as mine?

Airpods Pro 2 looks so underwhelming to me, to be honest. Also, after dealing with crackling and battery issues, probably won't get another pair next time

Choosing literally the worst sounding Apple employee ever to do the delivery in this presentation was a stunningly stupid decision for a new audio device launch. Just incredible.

Nails on a chalkboard would literally be infinitely preferable than listening to that woman.

No joke for a second I wondered if she was actually deaf as her vocal delivery was so incredibly bad.

I get what they are doing, they put the actual person in charge of the product there to talk about it and on paper that's commendable. I sincerely hope that she is incredible with being in charge of AirPods Firmware, but she should not present again next year.

I never thought I'd say this but this presentation did not have enough Hair Force One. Where was he, even? He's the best presenter they've got since Jobs is sadly no longer available.

Better ANC, volume control, better battery life, and a lanyard (lol). That's almost everything I wanted for my APP. Insta-upgrade for me.

Still missing earwings or *something* to make them not fall off my ears. But hey, I'll keep living with my 3rd-party earwings that I have to remove every time I put the APP back in their case 🙄

Moderator has to approve my original post where I included links to BT specs.

BT 5.3 means it supports Low Energy radio (LE) if the iPhone does (I don't know that it does, will have to look) It also support direct finding which makes for the case pinpoint Find.

LC3 should be used, but not confirmed without looking deeper into the Pod specs.

Apple would be immensely stupid not to support LE and LC3, so thinking they are supported. However, it is not guaranteed as LE support depends on the iPhone.
Thanks for the insight! So looks like I'm buying airpods pro 2 ;-)

I got the Airpods Pro back in the mail yesterday. They sent them back with a little 3-fold white paper in the box that looks like the "quick start guide" Apple might put with a new product. I took a photo of the most relevant part of what was said and attached it here.

(BTW: They arrived with the batteries totally dead in both the AirPods themselves and the case, so that alone makes it *very* dubious if they really did the testing they claim to have done here. How did the AirPods go totally dead after they had to charge them up to test their audio functionality, if they just did that and shipped them right back in a matter of days? I'm trying, once again, to let the charging case sit for 24 hours, charging off a Lightning to USB cable attached to my machine, and will see what it does. But so far, looks to me like it's malfunctioning just like it did when the Apple retail store confirmed it had a problem and sent it off for service.)

So they basically said there’s no problem. Hmm. If you disagree I’d suggest going back to Apple store to redo with someone new. Sometimes the repair shops make mistakes in processing. And I believe they are all third party shops if shipped outside of Apple store.

I got my Pro 2 and this time, the default tips fit me very well but I tried the Small one and that also fits me and doesn’t go inside-out when I take ‘em out. I also noticed that I can now sleep on one side and the Pros don’t seem to fall out, which was a huge pain-point of mine with gen 1 but maybe I should give it some time before saying that it works.

ANC part, at first it seemed to be a lot better but I noticed today I could hear a lot more of the noise around me (with both S and M tips), like the vehicles going by the road outside my home or the fans in my room and of course more of the busy street while commuting and I’m not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be? Fit test says all good. So, bit disappointed on that front. IDK if they updated firmware and toned it down?
