I was disappointed that there was no mention of sound quality for a set of earphones. But what you say makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
They did talk about the improved drivers and improvements to noice cancellation.

"sound quality" is such a nebulous term. For some it means more base, for others it means clearer voice.

"With up to double the noise-cancelling power of their predecessor, the world's bestselling wireless headphones just got even better."

You mean the active noise-cancelling the AirPods Pros Gen 1 had and the press got to test and I got to test at the Apple Store. Before Apple decided to tweak and worsen the ANC with updates a couple of months after release? Do you mean that ANC Apple?
I'm shocked nobody has talked about this in this thread so far.

I feel like Apple would have specifically called out LC3 codec improvements if they had added it. Just listing BT 5.3 isn’t confirmation.

FWIW the original iteration of ANC on the APPs hurt my ears, too much pressure. I suspect I wasnt the only one. I'd bet they fixed that for these and basically use that ANC config but with hardware better optimized for it.

A lot of people complained that the ANC made their ears feel full of cotton so they backed off on the strength of it. It would be good if they would give us control over the degree of ANC.

This now has me looking at these again. They did make me feel like I was underwater or that my ears were plugged, so it's good to see that they worked on this. Now if they could only stop falling out of my ears regardless of whichever tips I used, which is what made the previous Pros a pass for me...

Headphone enthusiast here.

I would challenge you to do a blind ABx between lossless and lossy formats using wired gear (since no lossless wireless formats exist thus far).

If you can't consistently tell them apart on wired gear, please stop obsessing about lossless via wireless.
The bigger question too is, even if you can tell the difference, does that difference actually make a noticeable difference for your enjoyment of music?

There definitely are some people who can tell a difference and it does matter to them - but there are plenty of people who can’t tell, or who can but they really have to focus on it to actually tell a noticeable difference.

Lots of cool stuff here. Really wanted lossless, that's the only thing missing, but I'm still very tempted. I see they support BT 5.3, doesn't that mean theoretically they could add it at a later date?

I would have been thrilled if new APP had the sound of the Beats Fit Pro and the ANC/transparency of the OG APP.

also my APP have the annoying thump when running whereas my Beats Fit Pro do not. I need the best from each in one package.

This is literally the biggest issue with them. Unbelievable how it’s not addressed. 90%+ don’t care about lossless audio.
Just saw this on the overview page. Hopefully it helps:
A redesigned inward-facing microphone works with voice enhancement algorithms to better recognize and articulate your voice, so it sounds more natural when you’re on phone and video calls.

You guys are right, some people complained, but I'd rather had the amazing ANC they once had than getting rid of it because people didn't like it. Giving us a toggle would've been great, but by any means it was false marketing. I bought a product for one feature and after I spend 250 on them, they disabled that feature. That is kind of a scam. I also suspect them that they had a too perfect ANC and needed better ANC for the Pros 2. Since Tim Cook it is just about cash grabbing. I won't be buying another pair of Pro's that's for sure.
I love Apple, but especially things like these make me mad about the company.

a lot of people bought third-party foam ear tips to help with the fit. that might help you.

They made the change nearly 3 years before the 2nd gen, so I kinda doubt it... More likely a lot more folks were like me than you and preferred it get dialed back because of the pressure.

A toggle wouldve been nice then. Or don't you think it was false advertising, even with the issues you had?

Not false advertising. They still had ANC it just was turned down a little bit to relieve the experience of pressure. It was always going to need some amount of tuning. Too bad they didn't give us options on intensity.

It's not false advertising, they still have ANC, very good ANC, they tweaked it a bit. And I actually refused to buy them initially after trying them out, I only bought them after they changed it to something a lot more comfortable for me.

I have to disagree with you on this, they do not have very very good ANC anymore. When I tried them in the crowded Apple Store with store music blasting before buying them, you could almost hear nothing. Now walk in to a crowded Apple Store today with the Gen 1's on and tell me you hear nothing.

They would have to stay in my ears for me to test that. So far, all rubber tipped earbuds - Airpod Pro included - have failed to do so.
