Apple just ran the bus over all their customers who paid $10k for the real gold watch. The whole point was that its gold right? Now people can buy a cheaper one and no one can tell the difference from afar.

Of course they didn't. The point is that the Edition is 18kt solid gold, and costs over $10,000, detailed with exclusive bands and customer accents not available on the other watches. The new Sport is aluminum, colored gold. And yes people can tell the difference from afar, the finish looks nothing alike -- and that's assuming anyone actually cares.

And Apple will do it again, eventually adding a less expensive polished gold clad watch for all those who want a nicer watch than the Sport, but can't afford the Edition, and will otherwise not wear silver jewelry or accents. That will look even more like the Edition, but that isn't what's important to any Edition owner. It's self satisfaction. That's why there will eventually be a Platinum Edition, even though it will look just like the stainless Watch. For Apple, ignoring those who won't wear silver is leaving money on the table.

They can add all the colours they want, I still won't get one.

Still hoping second generation....

As I was checking out the new Apple Store, I couldn't help but notice that the Hermes leather straps run from $1,100 to $1,500!

Anyone whining about paying $600 for the watch now has a whole new thing to get angry about!

I think you'll find that the $1100 to $1500 Hermes straps come with a free stainless steel Apple Watch (I believe it's a bundle of watch, strap, and exclusive watch face). Still expensive, but not quite as much as you imagined. Yeah, their stuff is spendy, but it enjoys a tremendous reputation in the fashion world.

It's certainly not exclusive to this thread, but why do some folks go to all the trouble of clicking into the comments on an article to say, "I'm not going to buy one"? How does that contribute to the discussion?

Another reason to bring back the 'down' button.

Because they just want someone to love them!

That said, I really like the red/silver combination. I was tempted by the third party sport bands but now that Apple have released a red one I might pick it up.

I'm clueless about fashion and "this season's trends", but buying a 'fog' coloured band doesn't appeal - I just have to look out of the window now Autumn is rolling in. I see the one I was thinking of - midnight blue - is now showing at 3-4 weeks delivery.

I probably wouldn't have the extra for Apple Watch if these new Sport combos had been available at launch :(

I strongly suspect that, this being "fashion", and with Apple apparently having done their homework on the fashion industry, we'll be seeing watch band colors come and go much more often than other Apple products.

It's funny because they opened with Apple Watch, and no one really cared. Even this thread was dead before it started. If Apple doesn't release smart bands (that provide more functionality through the hidden port), I fear the Apple watch will die. I can hear it's heart beat fading away....

Tim, you are fired!

You missed the point. It is quite easy for someone fail anyone by setting an unreasonable goals. For example ...

Early in my career, I had this near retirement, Ph.D-type of a manager with a lot of business failures in his past. I come in, he gives me this rediculus deadline to make a specific piece of communications software work in a week. I get on-line, find example source code, integrated it in and get it working. Most of the place is over the top that I got this system working. Except for my manager, he in fact looked sad and sulked with news of the goal made. This was the beginning of a "never good enough" for the guy as I kept on producing.

In short, the manager was attempting to set me up for failure constantly trying to "knock me down to size" of his level of failure. I fought back by digging into his personal life, found some really illegal and immoral activity, then notified personnel and he was removed from the company after all the legal ducks were in order. That's how you deal with the man if he doesn't support you.
Great message, thanks

It's interesting that they are no longer offering a polished gold option. That's one of the most popular finishes in watches and jewelry. Maybe Apple will reintroduce the 18K gold watch at some point for a lower price. Though it's hard to imagine how they will justify offering it for 1/4 of the price of the original Edition, which is really all it's worth. But it's just as hard to imagine a watch brand that doesn't offer one.
