Damn!

If they were going to lower the specs on the mini at least they should've made the mini the size of an AppleTV or something. 1.4 on the base model and no quad core processors available?

I was waiting on the mini but now I think I rather keep an eye on the refurbished section and wait for the quad core mini to show up...

This.

And it's only $50 cheaper in Canada. WTF were they thinking?

One more thing... (sarcasm)

Also, RAM is soldered so you can't make any upgrades, and there is no more HDMI to DVI adapter in box.....

hahahahahahaha....... Apple executives and marketing strategist are complete idiots if they are thinking we are idiots....

I bet you're very tempted to get the low end one am I right? ;)

I'm tempted to visit an Apple store, pull down my pants, and take a steaming dump on the floor.

That's really the only way I can properly express my disappointment.

They gimped the processor and slashed $50??? What an absolute joke. The 2 year old model will probably run circles around this thing.

Extremely disappointed

I was looking to get one of these as my Plex server, but it is tough for me to justify the expense with a downgrade in the processors.

Anyone know how you can still buy the old model other than eBay? It is not in the refurbished store.

During the keynote, the Mac mini is presented with PCIe-based Flash Storage as a standard feature across the line.

Disappointed to discover that it is not the case.

I bet it would look BAD if they wrote 5400rpm hard drive came standard on those 3 Mac mini in late 2014 !

Plus no quad core processors on the 2 high end Mac Mini.

What a let down.

I have 5 USB drives. Where would I plug these in?

I have four enclosures plus a wired keyboard and a wired mouse all connected.

I also have a 7 port USB hub so I have no problems connecting anything.

The only firewire drive I have quit connecting to my 2012 Mini and it also had problems connecting to my 2008 black MB. That also is one of the four now connecting through the USB ports/hub. I don't own any 3.0 enclosures yet and my hub is also 2.0.

OMG I almost gagged ! :)

I've been waiting for ages for the new quad-core Mac Mini and now there isn't one.

This is a big let down.

It appears the MacMini Server has been killed? I don't see the specific model anymore on the Apple site.

What i gotta do??

What i have: Mac Pro 1,1 (a dinosaur, i know) with dual 2,66ghz, 8gb ram, ati 4870hd, 5tb storage

Usage (i'm a professional Photographer, so i work with that): 90% Lightroom 5, 10% Photoshop CS5

Lightroom, for how is written, i understand that do not take advantage of multicore systems, expecially in RAW decoding for reason connected to the RAW structure itself; it only uses all cores and nearly 100% cpu while exporting files.
GPU acceleration is NOT supported in Lightroom, so having an HD4000, HD5000, IRIS or even a double slot gaming card with 4gb ram wouldn't do any difference for me. Lightroom likes best processor ideally with one single core and the max speed clock possible.

Problem: i really need to change my mac becouse it's really SLOW and outdated. I was waiting for the new Mini to come out, so i could make the change. iMac not an option, i already have my pro displays with adeguate panels for chromatic fidelity. Mac Pro is simply our of budget, i still don't earn enough to afford it. MacBook's also not an option, a good one cost plenty of money and i don't need to be protable o to have another display, so would be money waste.

I should buy the new i7 DUAL 3.0 or look for an used i7 QUAD 2.6? Remember, what i need best is the raw processor power, nothing elese. Will the new one, dual but high-clocked, outperform the old quad but with lower clock? I waited for over than one year to new Mini to have a powerful one, and now they come out with a DUAL??!! I'm really mad for that!

Thanks.

My 2011 mini was a decent gaming machine, I still play Skyrim on it regularly. I was really hoping to get a new mini, but seeing this "upgrade", I think I'll pass. Time to save for a 21 inch iMac :S

Since the two year old i7 one has double the cores it should almost be double as fast since the CPU generation gap is tiiiny.

This is probably what Apple was hoping for. Create a larger gap between the Mini and iMac so people will think about upgrading

The middle model actually looks reasonable. Its got a regular hard drive too, so that means you can swap in a regular SSD.

Idiots around here have no idea how good these new dual core cpu's are, too funny!!

...And thanks to modern software development practices, quad cores are frequently fully utilized and therefore they truly do provide close to double the performance of the dual core options. Check geekbench. You may be happy with a dual core, but many of us could benefit from the quad greatly. And we're not idiots, sir.
