I'm thinking of purchasing my iPhone 4S from Hong Kong. Will this work fine with US carriers since they have the unlocked version for a bit cheaper than us? Will all features work?

There is no official price yet, but why do you think it would be cheaper in HK than in the US?

A settings file for Telecom is now available on Apple's servers. It's possible that Telecom will officially sell the 4S, and the delay may be related to Apple needing time to come to an agreement. This is just a guess though and we'll find out whether Telecom gets it in a few days :)

Oh nice, I was just saying to a friend that Vodafone doesn't deserve to get it. Hmmm, need to put plans afoot then :).

From what I understand Telecom have been selling iPhones through its i-Gen business for quite some time - I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up selling them to consumers directly given that their network is far superior (in my experience) to what Vodafone offers.

Unlocked iPhone 4 in Hong Kong (all iPhones from Hong Kong has been unlocked since first launch in 2008) was HK $4,988 = $639 with NO tax. ;)

Those come with a 2-year contract has been HK$0. Average monthly fee for an unlimited data+voice plan in HK is about ~$54.

Yes, Gen-i has been selling them directly but it wasn't an official arrangement; rather Telecom was buying individual units the same way that a consumer would.

The appearance of a Telecom settings file is a good sign that an official agreement will be announced soon. If Telecom offers similar pricing to the Galaxy SII then I may finally be getting my first iPhone!

The iPhone 4S has been reported to be available on 11-Nov in Hong Kong according to the HK local newspaper says today:

The official pricing is now announced in Hong Kong:
The iPhone 4S 16GB is zero dollar with a plan of 40 month contract (HKD$4480).
Chinese Version

Chinglish Version

The price of the iPhone 2,3/s,4/s will be very close to the US pricing. Because Hong Kong currency is bind to US dollar since last century.

Hong Kong doesn't need Siri anyway, it's already noisy enough in this city! I don't want to have 25 iPhone 4S owners talking Chinglish to their Siri around me at any given moment ;-)

You are certainly right. Most of the Hong Kong guys (5 billions population = 75%) can't speak natively english at all. So the Siri will not work as reported by the local magazine. But it is still a bit better than Japan because 95% of Japanese can't even speak any Jap-english.

If you have watched Lost-in-Translation (the hollywood movie). Then you will know Siri 100% will not work in Japan.;)

Yes, and as one of them, you can't even use proper English vocabularies. Hong Kong has a 7 million population, not 5 billion. The world has 7 billion people. And, AFAIK, 90% of the HK population are native Cantonese. Therefore less than 10% of the population speak English as their first language.

Of course, Japan is worse.

Yap, you are really right. I even mess-up with the number. Please do not come to Hong Kong as we can't speak any international languages to serve foreigners. This is not good to you. We will surrounding you to bug you with Chinglish:cool: (So you will be Lost-In-Translation:eek:).

So it's the 4th and there's nothing on Apple's site about preorders yet. Has anyone heard a time?

Heheh... it briefly appeared on Telecom's site a little while ago before being swiftly pulled. That sounds like confirmation to me! :D

It's now available for preorder on the NZ Apple Store. It might be in the other countries now too, check your local sites :)
