I don't want to hijack this thread to talk about iMacs... but... why does everyone say iMac updates are months off?
My guess is that Apple wanted to announce something this week to counteract the publicity that Bill Gates is getting at teh CES. And what better thing to bring forward than todays announcment of the "faster ever Macs".
Steve can then re-announce this next week and give more details of what it all means, and he may also mention that iMacs and MacBook Pros will also be updated with Penryn.
The MacRumors Buyer's Guide is advising "buy only if you need it - approaching the end of a cycle" for iMacs so talk of updates being months away seems strange to me.
1) I don't think a speed bumped Mac Pro is going to take an attention away from CES. Today's MP just brings it up to current standards. Basically, except for fanboys it's a yawn.
2) Don't get your hopes up for a new iMac @ MW. It's not going to happen, especially after today's MP bump. The MP release now is Apple's message that they are not going to waste Keynote time going over speed bumped products. The Keynote will be for all-new product(s). Like most others here, don't expect a new iMac until Late Feb to Early April.
