Do any of you remember if Apple gives out Gift Cards during Black Friday sales? I'm tempted to trade in M2 mini if I can get one for $499 plus a gift card.

Very impressive.

Likely trading in my base M2 Studio for an M4 Pro mini with 64GB and either 1 or 2TB storage. I made a mistake and only got 512G and have hit that limit a few times moving VMs and music around this past year. D'oh!
I’ve been waiting to replace an old Intel iMac and this mini looks perfect. That being said, specing up both an M4 Pro Mini and a comparable M2 Max Studio shows very similar pricing yet Studio has more GPU cores, more I/O, higher memory bandwidth. Mini wins comparison with 2 more CPU cores and Thunderbolt 5 but both are pretty much the same in all other regards.

Has me considering waiting a bit longer to see what changes on the next Studio considering the pricing is so close between similarly spec’d models. 🤔

I have a 4TB high speed NVME SSD hooked up to my current Mac mini with thunderbolt 4 and I store everything on it as far as my personal files go yet somehow the internal 256 has filled up completely in a single years use from whatever apps store on it... incredibly frustrating.
I have basically the same set-up as you in terms of my external SSD drive. I opted for the 512 internal storage because, like you said the internal SSD seems to fill up fast with god knows what. That's why I chose against the 256. Yes it's STUPID Apple still offers 256 SDD internal storage. Absolutely RIDICULOUS

how often do you plan to push the power button on this machine? Keep in mind it uses basically no power while sleeping
When I used to have a Mac mini, I use the power button a lot (multiple times a day) to put the computer to sleep

the keyboard shortcut for sleeping used to be cmd+shift+eject, but that doesn't work for keyboards without the eject button. I haven't figured out what's the combo for lock button/touch ID keyboards

Agreed. We use a secure VESA mount cage to fix the current model to the rear of our monitors. That is not going to work so well with that ill-conceived power button position.

Harder to secure, more pocket friendly, more sales?
Any mount made for this unit will turn it around so the bottom with the power button (and the fan vent) is facing out.

Apple,

You may have my money. Trading in an M2 Pro MacBook Pro that has left its dock maybe five times total.
The question is, how important those "has left its dock maybe five times total" are. If only once every few months one needs to travel (clients, holidays or whatever) yet remain fully computer-equipped the mobile MBP remains necessary.

Set a display corner to initiate sleep when the cursor is moved to that corner.

10 Gbit network adapter units already shipping 2 weeks later. Damn, should have pulled that trigger a lot faster… Hope there are in-store units available next Friday.
