So back to a composite back from ceramic. That's disappointing. My S0's composite back became scuffed over time just from going on the charger.
I noticed that, too. I think the 8 has this new nylon back, too.

It looks WAY less elegant, but… environment yay 🙄

On the SE2 site it says the following:

  1. Results based on the performance of common user tasks. Testing conducted by Apple in August 2022 using preproduction Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and shipping Apple Watch SE (1st generation), each paired with an iPhone; all devices tested with prerelease software. Results reflect the approximate performance of Apple Watch.

So it's only 20% faster than the first SE.
So Apple is sending mixed message about the S8 chip here?

"S8 SiP with 64-bit dual-core processor
Up to 20% faster than previous generation24"

"24. Results based on the performance of common user tasks. Testing conducted by Apple in August 2021 using preproduction Apple Watch Series 7, and shipping Apple Watch SE, each paired with an iPhone; all devices tested with prerelease software. Results reflect the approximate performance of Apple Watch."

To be realistic, and unfortunately, you're probably right then if I had to guess. Apple wouldn't be that generous to give us a non-reskinned processor.

Looks like they forgot to update footnote 24, since it refers to testing in August 2021. Or, they're relying on last year's testing of S7 vs old SE and using the 20% improvement because the S7 and S8 chips are similar.

Looking forward to the day where my kids are old enough that I can make their birthday the best ever with an Apple watch SE.

This is just my opinion, but at 32GB of storage, the Apple Watch SE is now a valid replacement for the iPod nano.

Seriously? If this isn't meant sarcastically, you should learn one or two things about parenting. But yay to teaching your kids the importance of American materialism as early as possible!

-SE has no Always On Display
Correct
-SE has a smaller display?
Yes, the SE displays are ~1mm smaller in roughly the same side enclosure
-SE has no temperature sensor, but has most of the health features found in other Apple Watches
Correct, minus the temperature sensor, it does have most of the other health features (the other feature I suspect it will omit is the ECG, but that hasn't been confirmed one way or the other yet).
-SE has no fast charging?
Also unknown at this time, but I'd be surprised if the new SE doesn't get fast(er) charging
Thank you!

This is honestly the more important announcement as it's a mainstream Watch that everyone can afford, especially with an S8.

I was thinking so too, Watch SE got the biggest upgrade of anything they announced today.

My 8-year-old is a little old for the paw patrol watch and has been asking for a watch for her birthday this month.
Ah missed the boat then.

Seriously though 8 sounds about right. I know I'd want it for the location tracking.

When Apple officially discontinued the last iPod earlier this year, it got me wondering if I could replace what my old 4th gen nano did with my Apple Watch. But I don't think you can have music that fits certain criteria get loaded onto your watch. My iTunes library was way bigger than what could fit on my nano, so when I plugged it in, iTunes made a 16GB playlist that I could add songs to and then just sync that to my nano when I wanted to add or remove songs. Ideally, I want to be able to have something like a smart playlist that I could limit to say 8GB and have that amount of music randomly synced to my watch.

Right now I have my watch set to have recently listened to music synced over, but it's not much at all, barely over a gig. I want more music downloaded to my watch without having to choose albums and playlists to sync manually. Is there a way to do that?

Had my eye on an SE2 but my interest was effectively killed in one swoop once they removed the best neutral colour - black! Totally baffling given their Space Grey watches go with everything.

Probably just going to keep my old Watch, it does do most of what I need anyway, even if it is a bit slow outside of the telling the time/notifications/playback controls - though these three do make up a lot of what I use it for. That or I might keep an eye out to see if any SE1's go on sale instead. Meh.

It's a pity that the cheap AW will probably not get the always-on-display for many years, because it cannot be allowed to be too good. Understandable I guess.

Our 8 year old has maintained his apple watch 6 much better than his 6 year old sibling's SE v1 who had scratches galore on the watch face. Next apple watch I'm getting a case. I did get the cellular version and t-mobile has a $5 / month tax included watch plan so they can call / text - which in theory sounds great, but in reality is of much limited usefulness but perhaps adds some peace of mind.

Yes. North korea could teach him real values…
