I think 2,000,000 units sold in the first 60 days is a pretty good success.

Anyhow iPhone OS 4.0 needs to be ported to ipad STAT. Before other tablets come out with multitasking and such.

That's not the implication. My only argument so far is that two months is too soon. Google could make a better OS and other companies could make a better and more widely used tablet, irrespective of what Apple does.

They could have done that last year, or last month... How is any of that relevant.

Without the release of the iPad the tablet market would have continued to fail along like it has been for the last 10 years, for easily another 5 years, maybe even longer.

Good comeback. You win.

That's my point. Apple has won the first Battle. But who won another famous battle at Pearl Harbor? Yes, I know you'll say it's a bad analogy ;)

In the entire history of the world with all the combined resources on earth for all time, nobody else has made a comparable device.

You are trying to claim there is some great war or battle going on, when in reality there is only one modern day tablet. There is no war. There is no battle.

Typical Hater Rage

<hater>
Now that all the fanbois have bought theirs, nobody else is going to buy it. IT WILL TANK!
I CAN BUY A NETBOOK FOR LESS, WITH MOAR PORTS, BETTER OS, AND WITH FLASH™.
</hater>

This has got to be one of the best, most "special" comments so far!
You should totally email Jobbs and complain about how lack of flash is impeding on your Hawaii trip and how it's just not fair and stuff.
I'm not completely sure, but you might be able to find information on Hawaii that doesn't require flash.

And that is how the apple fan boy works, instead of demanding to be able to view every single website and have the entire internet like apple commercials claim, they will accept and be grateful for what ever Jobs allows them to view on a device.

It is not about being fair, nothing is ever fair when with apple, it is about having a device that can suit my needs, and a 300 dollar netbook can do far more than a 700 dollar ipod touch.

This is good news but... There is no competition yet. iPad hasn't won anything. Let's see how this market falls out in a year. One can't dismiss Android and HP/WebOS tablets just yet.
Actually, it's easy to dismiss things that don't exist. Let's wait until there's an actual competitor to start talking about the competition.

This "magic" is getting really old. I never looked it as magical even when it was announced. Just a larger more capable iPod touch that was more responsive. Thats it.

Having played with one for a couple of hours, "magical" and "revolutionary" sound about right to me. It literally feels like you're holding the future of computing in your hand. I guess about 2 million other people agree since, as the anti-Apple fanatics have pointed out ad nauseam, no one really "needs" an iPad.

Sorry pal, but your jealous hatred isn't working here. :D. It MUST be magical if haters like you thought it wouldn't sell or that it was just a niche product that's a big iPod Touch. The 2 million sold in under 60 days makes your rant worthless. :D

Really? So just like the "iPad is Magical" nonsense, you decide that iPad owners are smart and everyone else is a douche? I agree this argument is as simple as it can get for iPad owners - having to reason or deal with facts is something iPad owners would rather not delve into, huh?

[ And I did not make a claim about anyone's smartness - I was just alluding a possibility - think of the large number of people who still fall for the Nigerian scams :D ]

I did no such thing as decide that all iPad owners are smart. You are obviously quite limited in your thinking. It is all black or white for you isn't it? I was pointing out the fallacy of your argument - where you were assuming that all iPad owners are idiots. Sorry - not idiots, just REALLY SMART lemmings that buy anything Apple makes and fall for 419 scams.

It is black and white thinking like that that shows who the true imbecile is. And yes, you were trying to impugn the IQ of all 2 million iPad purchasers with your post. So don't try to back out of it now.

And for the record, I don't own an iPad, because I don't have a use for one. I bought a MBP 15" instead. And I don't second guess my decision simply because 2M other people did want an iPad, I don't think they are smarter because they own a device that I don't. But I don't assume they are idiots either. Sorry, not idiots, because you weren't calling them idiots. More like really smart people that fall for 419 scams.

Guess I should tell everybody at GE Healthcare to stop porting Centricity applications to iPad? It's not like doctors and nurses really every wanted to get rid of paper charts and take care of patients. After iPad is just paperweight.
Exactly. I'm an EHR template developer, and I've never seen as much excitement about hardware in this industry as I have with the iPad. I've already been able to demo my iPad running our NextGen EHR software using an RDP client. When we finally have an app designed specifically for iPad, the resistance to EHR from our most stubborn docs will melt away. Tablets have been in use in healthcare for years, but the iPad clearly outclasses all of them.

I feel a little sad for the skeptics and those who are waiting on an Android tablet. Apple has already won this war, and they're still waiting on the sidelines.

Rated this news as negative.... hear me out....

While 2 million is great news, I expected to hear after the 1 million mark being reached that with the overseas launch and the 3G's we would have been at the 3 million mark 60 days later.

Still good to hear that if the pace continues then the iPad may hit 8 to 10 million by the end of the year.

"and if,,,:

dun think the figures would be much higher if the ipad had flash and a camerea ;)

and "if" your aunt had balls she would be your uncle...but it seems the marketing folks at apple just might have considered your suggestion, although it seems no matter what, lots o ppl still want to out smart possibly the smartest, at least for now, company in the WholeWideWorld.

All of the 'benefits' shown in this video are nothing to do with iPad. They're the benefits of wireless internet and portable computers, neither of which are exclusive to iPad.

Objective response on that one: Sales and interaction between people works better with the 10" IPS screen and thusly with the iPad. The service tech looked awkward with the iPad; it would seem more effective to use an iPhone or anothersmartphone.

But, if you have service manuals loaded on the unit, you are back at preferring the iPad.

The only times when the iPad use looks forced are when people are standing trying to juggle it. I'm still hoping for some more innovative stands and mounts.

So what exactly is wrong with that, anyway?

What is wrong is that people equate selling 2M to having a insanely great product, game changer or what have you - without giving any reasons as to why that is. (Repeating the same claim over and over does not make it true.)

Remember people bought a million Pet Rocks back in the day and there exists a USB Pet Rock (sorry not for iPad :p) and a Fan site for it today :D

I think this is actually quite bad news for everyone, save a few who benefit financially from this product selling well (like shareholders or application developers).

The problem is that it's not really that good a product. It's missing many critical features.....

Oh yeah, like the critical camera and the critical need to play Farmville on Facebook.

Production limitations. Looks like pre-builds were only 600-700k, and only now have they gotten up to 1MM per month. The good news is that the near-term pipeline is another 400k units. Hopefully they will be able to expand production another 30%, but it doesn't look like they expected this much success.

Longer term, it will be interesting how they keep up the excitement. IPod and iPhone had no issues there; can we expect the same from the iPad? For me, the app store needs a complete and total redesign. Their categories are weak, and app lists are useless with the 10 models of a single product apps.

too much time on your hands in hawaii?

dude, out of wonder, i looked at your posts and since you joined may 6 you have 16 posts, each one with a negative, sarcastic, snide comment about apple products. what i don't get is, why do you keep coming to this site which is about apple products. maybe you should chill in the surf, get laid or get a bit high and hang out on sites that you respect. it you think responses to apple that negate your comments represent "fanbois" then you are picking up the "talking points" of ppl who hate apple and don't have much else of interest in their lives. sad.

Oh come on... Do you really need to book your trip on the go or at your couch, from your iPad?such a one-time thing, I'd rather do from the comfort of a desk, carefully.

Disappointing that pre-builds were so low in the end. Hindsight is great; but they could have pre-built 1.5 to million and even if the iPad bombed would have been able to sell them IMHO.

I thought that 8mil was what they were hoping for by end of year?

Think that number came from an analysts of the market...

It literally feels like you're holding the future of computing in your hand.

No it bloody well doesn't. I've got a 64gig 3G iPad. It's a big iPhone that's a bit faster. It's not magical. It's not revolutionary. It sure as hell isn't 'the future of computing'. And it's just heavy enough that even if it were, you wouldn't want to hold it in your hand too long. Oh - and keep a cloth with you, that glossy screen ( which is damn annoying at the best of times) gets so damn dirty so damn quickly.

It's a nice device. Things it is not.... revolutionary. magical. the future.

In other news, Asus reveals the eeepad, a tablet you can actually *DO* stuff with.

That sounds sardonic, but I'm having a hard time understanding this rush to jump on the iPad bandwagon, with so many infinitely better, and cheaper, options available.

The fact that you can't tether your iPhone to it alone is just nutty.

C'mon haters give it up already. The iPad is a success! No matter what type of tablet google or HP makes it is already too late to catch up with the iPad.

Now those other tablets may have a niche market with geeks and other segments of the market. But apple was first again to the market with a new device. These other companies were soo busy trying to beat apple that they finally got BEAT.

Some people though will never be able to see thru their own blinders but say what you will the iPad is a great device and people love it.

People call it a giant iPod touch,ETC but the device is what you make it and i'm sure somewhere in those 2 Million iPads were people who hated the device. Who purchased it to find reasons to Pan it. But by doing those they helped the device become a success

Google and HP will never make a tablet that can do more than the iPad can. Because they will market it as an iPad killer. Which is wrong. The device won't be able to stand on its own legs because by bashing the iPad it will add to its publicity
