Pretty sure it means improved word count. I just used the Pages word count feature today, and it's this annoying overlay on top of the document.

Edit: Here's a pic Image
Clicking the word count will let you change it to character or paragraph count.

I see. Thanks. Yeah, some of us who are not familiar with the new Pages may have over-reacted.

I had a print button on my Pages tool bar. After the update it was gone. I couldn't figure out how to add it back. I called apple care. They removed the option to put a print button on a word processor and they call it and update.

There's one on your keyboard: cmd + p

Still no captions?

In order to write reports and academic papers, I need automatically numbered figure captions and cross references. I was surprised when this feature wasn't in the new Pages. By leaving these features out, it appears to me that Apple is ceding a large professional and academic market to MS Word.

Keynote Hyperlinks

I really hope Apple bring back Hyperlinks between slideshows in Keynote.

A step in the right direction. Now how about the iLife apps as well?

Wow. Echos of Final Cut Pro X, anyone? I'm not saying you don't have to break some eggs to make an omelette, and I appreciate that this was a free update. But, thats a long list of missing features - some of which are pretty basic.

It's kind of sad that Apple have been reduced to vapourware pedlars. Having to promise feature upgrades in future releases in order to placate the angry masses.

I don't think it's about being wrong or even necessarily listening to customers. I think they had a deadline and the apps weren't exactly finished products. Nothing too surprising going on here, other than people overreacting. I guess that's not really surprising either.

But that's a logical explanation which doesn't really have a place around here these days.

If you're writing reports or academic papers, you really want something like Scrivener.

Word and Pages are efficient but low-level clerical tools for elementary office tasks. They are not professional writing tools.

Apple is finally listening to customers.

Something that DID not happen with Steve Jobs.

Please add RTL writing support

Please add RTL writing support in iWork for iCloud...!
I can finally remove that parallels thing and use Pages to write in Hebrew... :)
If it would be in iCloud, too, IT'D BE AWESOME

This has nothing to do with listening to customers, and everything to do with the fact that they were going to add that stuff back in all along. They're tearing these apps down and building them back up again so that integration between iOS and OSX is seamless.

They should have said that from the start. I lost some mission-critical functionality in the new Pages and it really threw me for a loop.

Thankfully they retained the old versions, but the fact is they need to communicate with their customers better. This policy of springing half-baked software on people like FCPX and iWork is not cool and needs to die after this debacle.

I'm concerned about how many features Apple has cut out of its programs. First FCP X, now iWork. I can understand wanting to make the apps easier to use, but easier ≠ less features.

While I can understand removing features no one used, but sounds like many people used the removed features.

I think it's important to listen to customers. But they might necessarily totally understand. Reminds me of a riddle I've heard once: A man walks into a hardware store, looking for a drill bit. What does he need? Many people might answer "a drill bit". Real answer: a hole. Or like Henry Ford said (and I'm paraphrasing here): If I asked my customers what they wanted, they'd ask for a faster horse.

In both examples, the customer would be asking for a tool, or a mean to an end. All companies should listen to their customers, find out what "the end" is for them, and provide the best means to reach it.

However, Apple should also provide new "means" and "ends" so their customers can make as informed a decision as possible.

They had what? 4 years to do that?

Wait, the new Pages had WORD COUNT removed? Seriously?

No. It did not. This version is a brand new, from the ground up, app. Therefore, the feature has yet to be added.

When the new iMovie came out a few years ago it was the same deal. Lots of crucial features left out at first, but slowly made their way back in. The "new" iMovie is so much better than the old (IMO), so hopefully the new iWork apps will start to outshine the originals.

Rewrites Numbers for 64-bit/Still has 65,536 row limit.

(And what about bringing back pivot tables????)

As smart as they are, you'd think they'd learn from- say- rolling out FCP X without core features important to users of the prior version, getting fierce backlash, then apologizing and promising to resurrect features. How long did they have to build this version of the iWork apps? 4 years?

It all has to go back to the "culture of Apple" thinking that customers would only ask for a faster horse. It's ingrained in their DNA just like Cook keeps saying everything they do is. Once mutated I guess it's hard to fix.

All they had to do is put out this information before they released the products just to let us know. Oh well.

Final Cut Pro X
iTunes 11
iOS7
Logic Pro X
iWorks
(not getting into other disastrous side line projects like 'Maps')

The saga continues. Wow, these guys really know how to destroy good working software.
