I expected some new features related to oxygen and temperature sensors. I liked the redesign and eye health futures. Other new features are meh. Also Ultra deserves more unique features.

It looks like no additional models were dropped, which is amazing, although you can argue the update didn't really require that much more computational power. And they found some workarounds like offline maps needing the iPhone nearby to be of use. I guess route mapping is too much for the Watch processors.

sweet. i just bought my kiddo a new original SE cellular ($150 at Walmart!) in lieu of getting her a phone but I wasn't going to keep it if support was dropped today.

I think that would require hardware. Bluetooth is far superior to ANT+ but I'm glad they added it to support workout apps natively.

I know a bunch of comments said they would never use their iPhone while cycling but I would use it as a replacement for my cycling computer.
I agree. I'm hoping the next gen Watch Ultra will support ANT+ since they already went after the scuba dive computers. I can see Apple going after certain sports markets one update at a time but I'm afraid it may take awhile. Apple didn't support NFC for the longest time on iPhones.

I’m glad they redesigned apps to take advantage of the watch displays. Let the all-black UI be gone! The Apple Watch displays are so good now - I’m excited to take advantage of that color!

I’m also excited for the time spent outdoors feature. That’s something I’ve been wanting to improve for myself but hard to track.

Most disappointing they didn’t flip the switch on using the temperature sensor on the 8 for useful temperature sensing at any time you want to take a temp reading. Even if it was just for “you have an elevated temperature. Maybe you have a fever. Go see a doctor”

😩

Guess it’ll be on the 9. Because 🤷‍♂️

I'm sceptical about this one. OLED displays have heavy battery benefits when the screen is primarily black, as those pixels don't need to be powered. It's unlike LCD, where every pixel has to be lit regardless of what you are outputting. The last thing watchOS needs is to make the Apple Watch consume additional power.

I suppose it might not matter much as the display goes black (or drastically lowers the brightness if you have a model with an always-on display), so perhaps the battery drainage won't be that bad.

It seems like everything is moving to a swipe from the bottom and upwards instead of from the top and downwards. That feels counterintuitive to me. But my muscle memory will adapt, I suppose.

all those features are fancy and all but really the worst part of apple watch is you cant delete multiple texts messages at the same time so these 100 texts you get everytime you need a log in pass code make the phone aggravating.

At this point, we don’t really know what is actually IN 10. Apple often highlights just a few key items which they think are the most compelling, interesting, or requested. Something like the ability to take a more real time temperature (again, it’s only WRIST and will never be anything more) MIGHt be in there, we’ll see… but frankly it’s really not that great of a sensor and requires a lot of calibration and caveats to be of any use.

but, give it some time, might be coming in the probably 75-100 ACTUAL changes / additions to wOS 10

🤯 that Apple AGAIN failed to ship offline hiking maps for Apple Watch Ultra. Instead we get to run the offline map on iPhone and mirroring that from there to the watch while hiking.

After last years Ultra release and the lack of significant updates over the past year I really expected a lot more. There are some nice extras but overall I’m disappointed. No offline mapping, no algorithm updates, no ANT support, no serious health app updates, no training metrics, etc. And seriously Apple, no one with a power meter is going to use the health app to view data during a ride…

Great example. How much time did they spend working on that extremely niche cycling feature.

But Snoopy! How can anyone complain about lack of features with this new Snoopy watch face?

And did you see how many stickers there are now?! And they’re EVERYWHERE!

Truly, Apple knows what the people want. The 13 year old people.

Meanwhile my watch hands are still covering up my complications.

If I wanted to scroll through widgets, I'd take my phone out of my pocket. I certainly have no interest in widgets which try to guess what they should show me.

It’s literally just the Siri watch face with better control over which cards it shows.

WatchOS 10 makes the watch so more pro. Hope this is not a reason to kill some grewt watches and force upgrades.
Agreed.
Even watchOS is nothing major or exciting, apple software really is going downhill year after year im more unimpressed
What?! What you talkin 'bout Willis!?

WatchOS' new Cycling workout is FANTASTIC! This is THE FIRST major implementation that WatchOS receives and it's sweet.

For Apple Mini users like myself, and WatchOS 10 on Apple Watch the ability to track workout data, sync with cycling bluetooth hardware to track speed, rpm, power etc while cycling and detail this onto the iPhone's Lock Screen is SWEET deserts!

I've been thinking about this since early spring and I dislike the idea of having to buy a dedicated cycling hardware computer to learn more when I'm just a beginner cyclist (not a novelist not a pro - got some learning and another 300 miles to go to think of considering I'm ready to learn pro cycling).

Having an iPhone 12 or 13 mini + AppleWatch and WatchOS 10 is perfect. Not heavy to use the mini's just right balance. Sure more data to be display would be welcome especially all mentioned data overlayed through a topical map that can show elevations prior to reaching them would be supreme!

On my Apple Watch app on iPhone 11 Pro can’t get out of Software up date from iOS 10 keeps searching but won’t load till I’ve updated to iOS 17 on iPhone, as I’m not updating just yet Apple watch app is stuck on searching WatchOS 10 and I can’t go back to WatchOS 9 ?

For complications, why can’t Apple create a weather one with both temperature and conditions? I need to install a single app just for that

Most important: can we now get Active Timers displayed on the watch face (other than in a tiny widget?). I really hope so!

The new UI seems to be a combination of the honeycomb and a grid. You can scroll up and down like a grid and slightly side to side like the honeycomb but there are no hidden icons on the sides. Its set up in a 4 over 3 pattern that keeps repeating.

I like it.

Can I pair accesories yet? I want to be able to hook my power meter and cadence sensors on my bikes to my watch...article talks about powe zones...not sure how it do that without the ability to connect.
