This is some dumb ****. I'm a creative myself. The ad clearly was meant to show that you could combine all of that creativity into one little device.

The iPad is not going to replace a ****ing tuba, okay????????

I'm not offended.

I found it sad and unexciting, though – thus it didn't trigger my interest on the iPad which, I assume, should be the goal of the ad.

I humbly replied at Apple's/Tim Cook's X post my feelings and suggested next time to consider another ad agency or better scrutinize the creative process.

I discovered later that the ad was produced internally by an Apple creator team which I find even more strange.

Anyway, the act of destroying things is quite a trend in our society (you know, we – the first world, those with the full belly). MrBeast docet, just to name an illustrious representative...

This ad is very similar to one of the earliest ads promoting Pokemon back in the 90s, and you could argue that one was much darker since it was cute little critters that got crushed in a bus by an actual psychotic looking driver.

People these days need to get offline and touch some grass.

Here is that Pokémon ad,
It's indeed very similar :)

People these want to stay online and touch grass (before they smoke it). I agree with you though 😉

Never said it wasn't important, just that it's not where the money is compare to the mainstream. If it were, as it once was, Apple would be doing a lot more to the top end Mac line to appeal to creatives. They do a lot, but aren't the cutting edge they once were.

To use your food analogy, creatives may be the appetizer, but the real deal is the main course.

It’s like some people here have never seen a single piece of Apple marketing until now.

Personally I think it's a horror show of a commercial, but the only thing weaker than complaining about it is apologising about it. Still, they say there's no such thing as bad publicity, so I'm sure Apple is happy at the extra iPad exposure in the news headlines. Just saying...

Why apologize? What's happening to our world? It seems like nowadays, someone can get offended by just about anything, even a simple commercial.

I wonder why folks are being so sensitive about this? I got it, I play instruments, I wasn't offended.

The things people complain about in this day in age, it's ludicrous.

People are so sensitive. They should take a short walk and breathe some fresh air. 😵

There is nothing wrong with this ad.

There's probably 80+ more of these same comments on here.

It's poorly received because it's an unsightly and visually ugly commercial. Crushing things is about as mature as will it blend or that old jackass tv show. People don't want to watch garbage like that.

Notice how everyone ended up liking the iPod nano - iPad Pro ad? That's because it displayed beautiful visuals against confident boasting.

I almost feel a responsibility to speak on why this ad ostensibly went over wrong because I don’t see a lot of people in this thread acknowledging this particular angle-

for a lot of younger people, it’s not even about the sentimentality of the physical objects that were crushed. yeah, it furthers a debate that’s been had for decades over whether computers can truly replace artistic instruments, and whether being able to replicate the functionality of all those instruments in a 5.1mm slab is truly authentic. I’ve been over that argument for years—iPads are a great device for lowering the bar of access for creative folk, end of story.

with the ad itself, it’s really very simple. Apple spends so much time talking out the wazoo about their commitment to the environment/sustainability…then they put this out. tf did they do with the thousands of dollars worth of scrap material once production was wrapped? it’s a shame to see all of that wasted even if I’m one to admit I think the ad’s concept is cool. people are just more tuned into details like that than they used to be when it comes to corporate advertisement—especially coming from the biggest company on the planet. whoever said “read the room”…pretty much.

STOOPID! This probably offended googly eyed stress toys that still have their eyes.

I think the number of comments you cite here says quite the contrary. There are a small number of vocal dissenters with the majority seemingly not offended by this.

I do agree that it's not the best ad Apple has done, but it's just making the point that all of this creativity is packed into the thinnest device Apple has ever made. Not meant to hurt or upset anyone. Especially not the creatives whom Apple it targeting with this device.

For all the criticism I have for Apple that ad is not one of them. People go out of their way to find something offensive.

Yep.

Tim Cook: “These Chiat Day adds that everyone loves are way too expensive. Let’s fire them and get the guy who invented the E-Trade baby. I love that baby!”

Bozo move.
