Google tells you what they are doing with your data and you have to opt in for them to record it, in fact they are pretty straight up with what they want and give you the option to say yes or no.[\QUOTE]

Google wasn’t up front about using contractors to listen to recordings.

Doesn’t seem straight up to me.

Yet another apology after getting caught doing something which contradicts their public marketing schtick
Do what you want, aologogise later, chances are:
1) Many people will not know (about the issue) anyway or won't care.
2) Apologising will make you look great and strong (Fanboy be like : "Hey they apologised, it takes guts to admit errors").
3) People tend to forget easily and fast.

This works for any company...

They always seem to apologise after they've been caught. Makes me wonder for how many more things they still need to apologise but they haven't been caught yet.

I'm disappointed in Apple.
A dishonest corporation run by shady people.
Screw em'
What does this even mean? You are getting rid of all of your Apple gear? Or you were planning on buying an iPhone, but now cancelled the purchase?

Pro Tip: An iPod shuffle charger cable plugged into your 3.5mm jack disables the mic. You're welcome.
What headphone jack?

When it comes time to renew my gear, I'm rethinking everything. I originally started using Apple gear specifically because of my perceived lack of privacy when using Android based phones.

I could deal with bright spots on my IPad, the inconsistent experience using IOS + WatchOS & battery gate because the idea that Apple was more private than Android is what mattered. That's no longer the case. I trust Apple even less than I trust Android base phones, because the (Insert Android base Phone Manufacture) "mantra" in the past 2 years isn't how much they respect, and will protect our Privacy.

Google is still far less trustworthy to the point that it’s laughable. A recent study showed that around 85% of all Android apps send data to Facebook. I’ll still keep using Apple products.

Do you have any solid poof to back this up? Or is it just your opinion?
It’s pretty well known that they’re in bed with the NSA.

Apple was implicated in all of the NSA spying too.

Good luck with your future tech life. I personally am not changing go up my tech life. The only thing is that google probably won’t discuss what it does with its voice queries through google assistant.

No. Come on. Please do not post fake news here!

The contractors were just doing what Apple asked their employer to do for them. They didn’t violate the privacy of Apple users without a direct order from Apple. Apple told them exactly what to do and so they did.

Apple will use its own employees just because then the employee is under Apple’s direct control. To prevent future whistleblowing. And since people trust Apple and its employees. Well yeah. That all there is to it.
What are you talking about? That's not "fake news", it's just everything we know so far and where I personally stand on it. Do you have any evidence to back up your claim that Apple directly gave such an order? If not then what you're claiming is nothing more than hearsay which would be the real fake news here
[doublepost=1567094677][/doublepost]
If Apple didn’t know that they had 1000’s of contractors employed in grading, then how can they know their privacy claims are valid or legitimate? What else don’t they know that could be impacting privacy and security?
They have over 120,000 of their OWN people to watch over, and even that proves difficult for them much of the time. (The fact we're on a site that feeds almost exclusively off leaks, many of which undoubtedly come directly from Apple's own people, should say enough about that).

Then there's the thousands and thousands more people they contract with. I can barely keep track of what my dog is doing most of the time, let alone hundreds of thousands of people all around the world.

With all due respect, I’m not to concerned what you can barely keep track of, because I’m not relying on you for my privacy and unless I have missed something I haven’t seen any marketing etc from you proclaiming that privacy is the core of what you do

I was being facetious first of all, and my point was that it's impossible to perfectly oversee an operation as massive as Apple's and guarantee no loose ends whatsoever. But hey if you think you can manage 150,000+ people on a global scale without a hitch, then you may want to solicit your remarkable skills to Apple. I'm sure they'd love to know your secret to solving unsolvable things such as that.

iPhones were being hacked for years and Apple said nothing

Anyone who still credits them for privacy and security is basing their opinion on marketing not reality

The article doesn’t once mention that “iPhones were being hacked for years”, are you making stuff up again?

according to your article, apple patched the exploit 6 days after finding out out about.

Apple really focuses on privacy and security, that seems to bother you, perhaps you should have gotten an iPhone?

Ehm... the title of the article is Google finds 'indiscriminate iPhone attack lasting years'

The subtitle is Security researchers at Google have found evidence of a “sustained effort” to hack iPhones over a period of at least two years.

Apple patched the exploit 6 days after Google alerted them, yes. But Google only found out after this exploit was already being (ab)used in the wild for possibly multiple years.

This appears a rather serious issue, as the phone could be hacked purely by visiting a website, and have access to all sorts of data: https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.com/2019/08/implant-teardown.html

Yes “ sustained effort” to hack.
The article does not mention if they actually were able to hack anyone.
The exploit was not used on a any major website, at least according to the article, posted.

If it was as serious as you claim, I’m sure google would have found it years ago.

Particularly National Security eh?

"We've never heard of Prism ..."

They are all involved. If you think otherwise you are deluding yourself.

What is the difference between an Apple contractor and an Apple employee listening to Siri recordings?

What, are Apple employees magically better people than a contractor? They're both human, just because the employee works for Apple doesn't make them Jesus.

There is just as much of a chance of abuse of Siri recordings and transcripts by Apple employees as there would be with a contractor listening.

I think it’s a typical perception that staff employees are more trustworthy than a hired gun.

No idea what a 2013 article is supposed to prove regarding a 2019 exploit that was already patched.

The article doesn’t mention “prism” once.

are you shire you read the same article?
