Do you simply not want to understand the argument that it's about size and about how essential the provided products and services are? I couldn't have written it any clearer. Steam or console makers are way, way, way smaller than Apple, and provide services that are way less essential to society.

You seem to be operating under the misconception that your ideas are the only ones that are valid. Have a good one.

You also just described the video game console market. And several other existing markets. Generally, if you develop a platform, you own the rules.
And, what amounts to profit sharing is what ensures that the company that MADE the stuff others are using are able to make enough profit to stay in business and keep improving it while allowing others to just ride on top of that for a minimal fee.

It’s “how business works”. Some are successful and make more money as they get bigger (while maintaining the rules the same), others don’t improve their product fast enough to keep users/developers interested.

Geez if people just take 1%….even less of their whining about Apple and discuss more important MORE monopolistic issues like internet in the US, I could ACTUALLY have an alternative to Spectrum.

we're talking about a type of store here of which there exist exactly two to serve the entire planet
We apparently have different definitions of “exact”.

...and you can't . . . use alternate store on an XBOX or Playstation
These are multiple "alternative" stores that you can buy games from. There's

1) the console manufacturer (Sony, Microsoft);
2) a brick-and-mortar retailer like Best Buy, Target, Costco, GameStop; and
3) online retailers like Amazon;
4) You can even buy pre-owned games from eBay, Mercari, Gameflip, etc.

But isn't that a false statement?

"New program reduces App Store commission to 15 percent for small businesses earning up to $1 million per year"
HEY YOU! I have a point to be made and I won’t let your publicly available and easily searchable FACTS hold me back! If I looked up and found information contrary to what I have held in my head, I might NOT have posted! The world simply must bask in the warmth of my hot takes!

An essential App is free. Name one essential app for life that isn’t free. Go on. I haven’t purchased an App for my phone in years. And let’s be honest here, some of the apps are just web wrappers.

Next Xbox was leaked….digital only. No discs anymore. Regardless, as a dev you still need to pay a fee to Sony or Microsoft even if I sell my game at Joe’s Mom and Pop store.

You pretty much need a cell phone in today's world, at least the vast majority of people does.
“pretty much need” and “essential” are two VERY different things. As an example “clean water” is essential. An Apple iPhone is not essential. And, even if someone NEEDED a cell phone for how they live, there’s far more options from many other companies than Apple.

That people, who do not NEED an iPhone, CHOOSE an iPhone is an indicator of the success of the business practices of company that produced the iPhone.

Apple will win every and all legal battles. They have the money, the power and the connections.

Yep! Phones like the Jitterbug are essential. iPhones are not.

You're not presenting an argument, just your own narrative.
There is nothing essential about the apps in either store, they're luxury products, everyone could live without if they had to.
Secondly the size of the company does not determine whether its products are essential.

Agreed. It’s only essential because people just NEED TO live in social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok all day. I know people that got in so rough times where they had to get rid of their iPhones/Androids for simpler phones like Jitterbug.

That was my thought XBOX/PS/Nintendo are just computers that are locked to one store. How are they any different?

Xbox and PS5 are both sold at a loss, which is also why Microsoft only takes 12% of PC sales. They're also gaming devices, not utilities used in almost every facet of life.

I have no stake in this at all (and furthermore, the goal of both parties is to collect more money than they are due) but I'd be lying if I said that I don't still find it and other huge tech lawsuits fascinating.

I hope Apple suffers an epic loss in this lawsuit :)
They did already, we’ll indirectly, that lawsuit helped to form the Digital Markets Act in the EU, and if EPIC Games decides to offer Fortnite in the EU, there is nothing Apple can do to stop them. Good that side-loading is coming. Now it’s just a matter of time until an equivalent law finds its way to the US, bills are still being cooked.
