I use all these platforms and have never had any viruses and malware. Mostly because I’m not an idiot downloading everything I seeI haven't had a virus in decades on Windows, many don't, when is the last time you used it? 🙄

You’re also posting on a computer enthusiast website, which means you’re almost certainly a power user. I’m not worried about power users getting tricked into downloading malicious apps, but I am worried about my kid or 72 year old parent getting tricked - and the pro DMA folks want to take the choice to avoid that risk away from me.I use all these platforms and have never had any viruses and malware. It's not available on my Steam store when I search for it.This needs to be clarified.
All the Unreal Tournament games were delisted on Steam and other platforms in 2022 and official servers shut down, even on GOG.
So, UT games are no longer available on Steam, unless you already own them.
Then it’s an individual problem. Why should anyone be liable for the naivety and dumbness of any other person? Just don’t side load, it’s that easy. You’re also posting on a computer enthusiast website, which means you’re almost certainly a power user. I don’t see many 72 years old running to play fortnite. And apple sure made installing third party apps scary and cumbersome enough, it’s not like clicking the wrong link would install a ton of malware on your device. You’re also posting on a computer enthusiast website, which means you’re almost certainly a power user. I wonder what Apple's profits are in the EU - are they more or less than the fines the EU imposes. Maybe Apple should stop selling in the EU for a while and see what the EU then does.
I also wonder what the EU will say when one of these imposed app stores puts infected and dangerous apps on iPhones so that many, many people's have many issues and lose lots of money
I'm in the EU. I'm still waiting for the people forcing me to install any third-party app store on my iPhone at gunpoint, as some people here apparently expected to happen.Glad I’m not in the EU. Don’t want to have to defend against that Epic Malware.
Ok my requirements for a game store might be simple byt here thay are : It must allow me to buy games and install them, once installed they need to be kept updated, ofc there needs to be a function to load installed games. and finnaly when I have grown tiered of the game (or need the storrage for something else) it needs to aloo me to uninstall said game. What I don't need id another friends list manager and voice chat/middageng system hat's what Discord is for. What functions beond this, which Epic suck at do you need? I'm genuinely interested in your responseSeriously Epic? Eat dirt. No one wants your terrible junk software. Epic games store on windows is absolute trash - why would anyone in their right mind want to download epic games store on iPhone?
Edit: unreal tournament was awesome though.
The EU absolutely cares, they have no companies of importance internally. They just called Apple’s bluff before Apple called theirs. The EU represents a sizeable chunk of Apple profits, what you propose would tank Apple’s stock and enrage investors. Also it would be completely pointless as the EU couldn’t care less if Apple sell or doesn’t sell their products in the eu, only cares about the fact that companies comply with the law.
Utter nonsense, Mr. "Techwatcher". Here's some homework for you to do: Research EU companies like Zeiss, Trumpf. Explain to MR forum members why without ASML (Netherlands/EU) we wouldn't be using iPhones or generally speaking high tech computers. The EU absolutely cares, they have no companies of importance internally. They just called Apple’s bluff before Apple called theirs.
According to many US-residents here, that's exactly what EU/Von der Leyen is planning to do. So brace yourself!I'm in the EU. I'm still waiting for the people forcing me to install any third-party app store on my iPhone at gunpoint, as some people here apparently expected to happen.
Yes... contrary to corporations that "care" about me... LOLThis is the EU's latest revenue stream, disguised as 'Consumer rights'
Like any government, they don't actually care about you.
I suppose you don't see a need for road signs or traffic lights either. Then it’s an individual problem. Why should anyone be liable for the naivety and dumbness of any other person? Just don’t side load, it’s that easy.
It wasn't an analogy, and had nothing to do with choice on the Platform. It was just tongue in cheek comment about "Having choice is always the best choice" as a blanket statement might not always be true. It was just supposed to be humorous. What a dumb analogy 🙄
Until you need to when Epic buys exclusive rights like they do on PC.good thing, you don't have to use it
It's telling how completely insulated some users are when their only idea of a "company of importance" is social media and gaming companies. Even Apple knows better than this, considering their entire business runs on EU-based software (SAP). Perhaps if Siemens comes out with a killer fart app or if Airbus produces a bluetooth-enabled dog-tag, you'd consider them "important".The EU absolutely cares, they have no companies of importance internally. They just called Apple’s bluff before Apple called theirs.
Yanks in 2024: "I wouldn't want to have the freedom to choose not to install Epic games!"Glad I’m not in the EU. Don’t want to have to defend against that Epic Malware.
Is Epic a gatekeeper defined under European Law?Do you assume that Epic allows 3rd party sellers on the Epic Game Store, much less without taking a cut?
Tim Sweeny says their market share is 15% with steam having 85%, so with a couple of good years maybe they can get to Apple's 27% market share in Europe and then get to be a gatekeeper! Is Epic a gatekeeper defined under European Law?
Or are you just making up things now?
If you don't like these EU rules, you can move to the USA. Simple. If you didn't want the iPhone and App Store you could buy an Android. Simple.
I don't know what backwoods part of the US you got your license in (oh, wait, wasn't it USA where the driving test is just a quick drive around cones in a fenced area?), but at least in Europe, the first thing they teach you during your driving lessons is to adapt to the situation individually, doesn't matter what the sign says.I suppose you don't see a need for road signs or traffic lights either.
And by the same token, the EU doesn’t get to complain when they don’t get new iOS features. If you don't like these EU rules, you can move to the USA. Simple.
That's kind of an odd flex there, sport. So far it would seem that the most notable new iOS features are not only coming to the EU, but in many cases, they are coming because of the EU, and some are only available in the EU.And by the same token, the EU doesn’t get to complain when they don’t get new iOS features.
1) Will give you the EU forced Apple to provide third party app stores. I don’t think that’s a good thing, but I know I’m in a minority here on that. That's kind of an odd flex there, sport. 1) Third-party App stores
2) USB-C Charging ports
3) RCS Support
But I guess widgets are a cool thing, too.
