Still prefer the stock Apple app.

And thats the point I made in my article "I'm No Taylor Swift But Here's My Open Letter To Time Cook!" Where I talked about some of Apples anti-competitive behavior thats killing the competition. This case is exactly the perfect example and I'll include it in my article. Not only did Apple take the whole idea from F.lux and implement it natively into the OS, but it also doesn't allow the same level access to the developers to implement it. It has also done it with fitness apps on the Apple Watch and will continue to do it. This ultimately kills small developers.

Apple should have bought out f.lux and implemented it or allowed them native access to implement it themselves. This is a feature that really doesn't need to be in Apples hands, and certain developers should have OS access to implement it and maintain it.

Apple will always be able to get away with this. Their systems are essentially closed and as long as they say that integration and security are the reason for thier decisions they will never be questioned by the faithful.

There is no stock app for iOS 7 and 8 so how is that possible.
You can't submit an app for iOS 7 or 8. Apple has stop signing for that.
[doublepost=1457451485][/doublepost]
they 'worked with apple' on the implementation and then had the balls to reveal that UI and design TO apple? their designer is my hero or my enemy, i'm not sure which.
Worked with Apple probably meant .... App was rejected multiple times and they emailed support asking what they could change or do to get it approved. "worded with Apple" makes it sound like they had meetings with Apple

Petty sure you can submit an app that is compatible with iOS 8 or 7 still.

I think I'll wait until Apple releases iOS 9.3 with the Nightshift feature to try this out. It seems kind of silly to spend $2.99 on the app when this feature will be built in to iOS in the coming weeks. Just my $.02.

This must have been a mistake. I expect it to be revoked soon. I see no other logical explanation why this ugly mess gets approved when f.lux doesn't. Anyhow, the feature is to be baked into iOS, so this App Store approval will be ephemeral.

I think it's already been removed i get the error message "This item is no longer available"

so... i red that the "blueish" color may be the default setting of the phone... can anyone of those who buyed the app confirm this?

or am i able to set a lower temperature than standard?

My iphone screen has a slight yellow tint right out of the box.. -.-

I wonder if the prominence of the MacRumors article led someone at Apple to notice the mistaken approval.

The picture to the right is a bit unflattering... It's a shame Apple doesn't implement this feature as a standard into their iOS. I really like this feature on my Android phone. It's not a barebone-necessity, but nice nontheless.

They might already have a plan on bringing this feature once they launch their OLED-display though, to counter display burn-ins. I sure hope though!

Are you talking about the feature to be able to adjust screen color temperature to make it warmer, in particular in the evening/night time? If so, then that's Night Shift that is already coming in iOS 9.3, as briefly referenced in the article (with more information at https://www.macrumors.com/2016/01/11/apple-ios-9-3-night-shift/).

I did not know. Yes, I was talking about this, not knowing it would come. Thanks for clearing me up!

The concept of no single app being able to affect how the phone in general and other apps run when not using the app is part of what makes the iPhone such a safe and stable platform. This principle has been broken up a little bit with background activity (which affect performance and battery life even when not using the app), third-party keyboards interacting (and possibly recording) what you do in another app and probably a few other things that escape me right now. One app affecting colours in a significant way in other apps would be another significant step. Any app that could do this and would be misbehaving (intentionally or unintentionally) could be a nightmare to track down as the source.

Yes, what you cannot do is an app that is only compatible with iOS 8 or 7. Every app submitted today must be iOS 9 compatible.

Sure, but I don't think that was being suggested (or that someone would somehow want to really have an app that is for iOS 7 and/or 8 but not 9).
