This is one of those things I might sign up for every now and then for a month here or there. Lots of airline travel, stuck on the road for awhile, too many meetings that month, etc. I also imagine this would be good for parents, so kids don't sit there wanting to buy in app stuff.

I wonder if any of the bigger and popular games/developers will join in, I’m guessing probably not considering they stand to make more money from in app purchases.

Fair point, but honestly if this service winds up being entirely indie games I'll consider it a wild success. All of my favorite mobile gaming experiences have come from small indie devs.

Isn't every second you spend in every game being tracked to determine payment sharing?

Probably, but it's not being shared with third-party companies or used for ad tracking, according to Apple. Not sure how revenue sharing for the Arcade service works yet.

Erm.. don't think you will get tracked every single second, these can be downloaded and played offline.

The apple keynote suggests that these games will be available cross platform across devices. Mac, AppleTV, iPad and iOS. Are we looking at a probable macbook with Arm processor so that it is easier to port these games? Also the Processor of a iPhone or iPad is so much more powerful than a AppleTV are we gonna see an upgrade in AppleTV processor to run these games?

Yeah who needs indie games when you can just buy more "AAA" titles like Fallout76, Anthem, yet another CoD skin, Farcry, (ALL of which were terribly received) or one of the various $100+ editions of whatever "AAA" title is about to come out that includes all the missing story you get dinged for above that $60 in the form of DLC?
There is more to AAA titles than just crap like Fallout 76 and Anthem.

Sekiro, Devil May Cry 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Spider-Man, Bloodborne, Nioh, The Last of Us, etc. etc.

There have been some incredible games to come out of AAA studios recently.

Apples proposition here is good high quality Console level games on the go. In my opinion its a cool feature to be able to start a game on AppleTV and then While commuting to office i can continue my game on a iPhone or iPad during the train/bus ride.

The average serious gamers are lining up on Nintendo switch because it has good games. If this service is able to attract good quality game developers and games with enough high quality genre for all kinds of gamers. There is no reason why serious gamers will not give it a try. It is a good proposition considering everyone owes a phone. If you own a iPhone or an iPad you have access to much better games than say Android already.

You know.. I wonder if this is the start of Apple getting serious about gaming.

Could we see a first party controller for iOS this year?

Apple could have released a new Apple TV and game controller with this service and completely blown the roof off the place. Instead it’s this half-baked thing.

None of the titles mentioned here are worth my time. I've thought Arcade would be the cloud game streaming service like Google Stadia, GeForce Now...etc? This is stupid.
So the single old Doom title mentioned at the Stadia announcement appeals to you more than 100+ titles?

That is a greatest lie “console quality graphics” on smartphones. Graphics are nowhere near PS4 Pro or Xbox One X titles.

Maybe they think about PS3 or XBOX360 when they talk about “console quality”? That is more like it.

Apple should have had Epic port Fortnite to the appletv. Apple would make more taking 30% of players upgrades from fortnite than they’ll ever make from Apple arcade

I don’t see this succeeding at all. It’s all about must have exclusives. If they were to buy Nintendo and all their IP and made Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, etc... Apple exclusive, it would be revolutionary, but having someone who worked on a Final Fantasy speaking Japanese ain’t gonna cut it.

With Apple Arcade they have an opportunity to take games more seriously now. Currently their main competitor appears to be the Nintendo Switch. With many similarities happening between them such as offering a broad range of titles that appeal for all ages and gender. And the ability to play seamlessly between television and portable. As an owner of the Nintendo Switch, Apple has a lot of catching up to do. Nintendo’s library of games also includes many arcade titles, where many people in the world grew up with in their childhood, is something Apple needs to take notice. There is no doubt that many are still attached to the great games and franchises available on the Nintendo platform, even to this day.

According to Google, Nintendo has sold a little over 20 million Switch units. Whereas Apple has sold OVER 200 million iPhones. I think it is in their best interest to come together if they both want to grow more revenue in gaming. Just imagine the sales numbers if Nintendo allows Apple complete access to their eShop library. That would be huge and also great for indie developers.

I am looking forward to this. I am just not sure if development of unique games works that well that way.

I’d be happy if Apple just picked a few of the existing artsy ones and buy them out or pay for an extension, sequel, continuous development, basically something that won’t happen otherwise.

Having more levels, extended stories etc just on Apple’s Arcade platform would also be a unique offering.

Some of these might end up being good, but the idea of subscribing to a curated selection of unknown games is not something that excites me. What determines which games make the cut and which don’t?

It looked like there might a mech like game in the teaser that got shown. Wondering if any of the titles that were listed might be it?
