Today apple sent a letter and ask to test the Push service with a test version of AP app:

As a developer actively working with iPhone OS 3.0 beta, we would like your help in testing the Apple Push Notification service. We have selected a pre-release version of the Associated Press app for iPhone OS 3.0 to create a high-volume test environment for our servers.
To participate, we ask that you follow these steps:

1.Download the pre-release version of the Associated Press app for iPhone OS 3.0 from the iTunes Store via your desktop by entering this unique redemption code in the 'Redeem' section of iTunes, found under the 'Quick Links' section:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This unique redemption code and the functionality of the application will expire in seven days.

2. Install the application on a development device running iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 by synching it to iTunes. Make sure to accept notifications when prompted after installation. This application can only be installed on devices running iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5.

3. When you first run the app, choose U.S. English as your region when prompted. The U.S. English region will receive alerts, the Canadian English region will not. For purposes of the test, AP will be sending a high-volume of real news alerts.

4. If you do not receive notifications from the app within 48 hours after installation, let us know.

Yeah that US store only thing is a real PITA, however it is massively easy to open a US account from another country.

I have the app installed and push turned on. Haven't had it make a peep yet though, but i guess i still have 46 hours to go!!

iPhone is stuck on apple logo after installing AP push app

Hey guys, Im a registered developer and like all of you, received the email from Apple in regards to downloading the "push" app from the App store. Well I downloaded the app and now my phone will not reboot. It is suck on the apple logo and I dont know how to continue from here. Ive tried several times rebooting but to no avail. Any help?:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Did only a certain amount of devs get this? I got nothing. :(

I haven't got anything either...im still hoping my name is at the end of the list and I will eventually get this email...

Any developer outside the US not using their code? Let me know...would love to try it out..

i just got sent the code too, but i dont have a US account this is BULL, why is this only to the US, apple are such a bunch of A HOLES

I got the email when I was away from my computer and tried to redeem the code on my phone through the iTMS app....it said I did it correctly and to go into iTunes when I was at my computer and click "Check for Available Downloads" and it would download properly. The problem is that when I check for any available downloads, iTunes says I have none. I tried re-redeeming the code from the desktop iTunes and it says the code has already been redeemed. I'm stuck in App Store limbo.

Ironic that using the iPhone to redeem a code for an iPhone app has caused an issue.

Efice:
I did the same thing as you. But I haven't gotten to my computer yet. But I went to my last page of apps and I saw the AP news app there. I did redeem it using the iTunes on my phone.

What is the name of the app? i cant find it...I have a US account. I cant find any push email apps

hmmm...you're right. It's there for me too. I didn't even notice it because it created a new page of apps for me.

I Loaded It On My Device, And It's Working Great! I Have Received Several Pushed Alerts Already.......

Seems Like 3.0 Is Getting Close!!

Matt

Can you share in detail what it's like? Does the phone vibrate and a badge pop up on the AP app? When you open the app does it first show the notification etc.

Thanks!

they show up like text message notifications..phone vibrates and you think you have a text..but its a push notification..i got one about bill clinton or something

Yup, I was thinking the same thing. It's a damn shame too, considering what a steaming pile of **** beta 5 is ... :(
