Not really surprised by the knee jerk comments here, however

1. The claim you bought something on a promise, coming soon or future features won’t cut it.

2. The only thing that has standing is what the device could do on the day of purchase, if those functions were denied you, file a case.

The effect on share price by engineering delays is a frivolous claim.

There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Apple overstated its capabilities, as its subsequent restructuring and licensing deals with Google attest. It sold billions of dollars' worth of devices on the back of advertising and copy that highlighted these capabilities. "Coming Soon" may reasonably indicate a matter of weeks or perhaps a few months, but Apple consistently missed for the best part of two years. This means that Apple replaced devices with new models even before the old models had all the benefits of Apple Intelligence. To date, these capabilities are still lacking. Apple very rarely over-promises in this way and they should be ashamed of themselves.
And this was the enabled by the horrendous prerecorded Apple events. This has to stop, events should be live with live demos. Nothing that is shown in a carefully curated prerecorded show can be trusted.

Apple should absolutely get massively fined for this. I wouldn't have bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max had I known that the features they advertised would not be here almost 2 years later.
Not a fine to some regulator though, give it to people who bought phones with promised features and then had it delayed. Or just let them swap their phones when the feature they were promised is finally released 24-48 months after announcement.

Hahahaha!

Apple isn't a startup, it's a multi-billion dollar organisation that plans months, years in advance. Do they really expect us to believe that the exec. team walked into the office one day and 'new' Siri just wasn't up to scratch? Gimme a break.
Multi-trillion. Billion isn't a big number anymore.

I bought a Sony TV with 3D, should I sue Sony because there is no 3D content available?
I have a BlueRay player, they aren't making blurays anymore, should I sue the manufacturer because I can't buy movies?
The 3d tv CAN play 3d movies, if you get them. The Blu-ray player CAN play Blu-ray discs, if you get them. The iPhone 16 models CANNOT use this feature they ran ads talking about. If the tv only showed 2D content, and they ran ads talking about its capability of playing 3d content, that’s not okay. If the Blu-ray player only played DVDs, and you bought it with that intention, that’s not okay.

Even if you say that nobody really bought the phone just for that feature, it had ads specifically focusing on it. That is where the line is. it was sold showing people a feature it wasn't capable of.

Apple and Elon Musk Announce Siri That Almost Listens and Self-Driving That Almost Drives

Cupertino, CA — Tim Cook and Elon Musk today unveiled the future, which analysts confirm has been “about 12 months away” since 2016.

Siri: Now 30% Less Confused

The new Siri features:

  • Context awareness (sometimes)
  • Emotional intelligence (detects your disappointment)
  • Advanced AI that courageously forwards your question to the internet
Cook called it “the most intelligent Siri ever,” which is technically true every year.

User: “Siri, text John I’m five minutes late.”
Siri: “Which John?”
User: “My husband.”
Siri: “I found 14 husbands in your contacts.”

Seamless.

Full Self-Driving: Confidence Mode Enabled

Musk declared Tesla’s FSD “basically solved,” pending minor edge cases like:

  • Weather
  • Sunlight
  • Darkness
  • Roads
  • Physics
Now integrated together:

User: “Siri, take me to Whole Foods.”
Siri: “Here’s what I found on the web for hole.’”
Tesla: drives 10 miles decisively to a donut shop that was across the street

Both features ship “later this year,” a time period defined internally as “eventually.”

I doubt Apple maliciously delayed Siri updates to sell more phones, I believe that was the plan and they hit a roadblock. Things happen in the tech world, I don't think people bought phones just for Siri Intelligence, they would have bought them anyway. And at the end of the day, does your phone still work, and take pictures and make phone calls? Apple never said it was abandoned, just that it's delayed, I would rather they take the time to get it RIGHT then to release a half baked version of it, because if they did that, then people would be complaining of it not working properly. They are in a between a rock and hard place. This is why we will see less NEW features at WWDC now, the same thing happened when they announced the watch and the Mac Pro, delays happened and people got angry.

This suing is becoming ridiculous, suing and lawsuits for every little hair is what's ruining the tech industry and raising prices.

I am sure people will soon sue Nvidia because they can't buy a new video card because of AI shortage, or sue OpenAI for buying up all the ram causing their laptop price to go up $400.

Silly... but that's capitalism...
Horrible examples.

If Sony had sold you the TV with the promise of 3D capability in the near future and 2 years later it still couldn’t play 3D content, then you would have an appropriate example.

BluRay tech and content were available. Simply deprecated by tech advances and user preferences. No promises (implied or otherwise) broken.

The only way anyone thinks your examples are relevant is if they want to make excuses for the multi-trillion$ corporation’s mistakes at all costs.

Exactly this. It was Apple's decision to run with an advert and campaign marketing functionality which wasn't, and still isn't, available. Hell, they don't even sell the device it was advertised for any more!

Apple is fully in the wrong here.

This is what their small print said in September 2024 when they were running that ad:
  1. Apple Intelligence will be available in beta on all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with Siri and device language set to U.S. English, as an iOS 18 update this fall. Some features and additional languages will be coming over the course of the next year.
Well it's now 2026. Where are the features you advertised because it quite specifically states I should have received them by the end of 2025 at the latest.

They did defraud the shareholders. I hold Apple shares. Those shares went down as a direct result of false statements they knowingly made regarding a flagship feature of their flagship product.

If that’s not defrauding shareholders I don’t know what is.

That’s why CFed looked more nervous than ever when asked directly if they ever had a working version of Siri. He knew he was lying and that that was a crime.

Never mind the whole point is executives are in charge and therefore bear responsibility. Arguing they didn't know what was going on in their company isn't an argument, and it's their fault that has been allowed if true.

That's not capitalism. That's vaporware and misleading marketing.

Just double checked. We both bought a Mac mini iPad v7 as being AI ready in late 2024 after this announcement. Nothing was wrong with our existing mini iPads. We also bought a 14" M4 Max MacBook Pro laptop (64GB ram & 4TB SSD) and a 16" M4 MaX MacBook Pro (128GB ram and 8TB SSD) with that claim as a partial impetus replacing functioning Apple MacBook Pro laptops. We each also got a iPhone 16 Pro MAX. With the impending election, I also purchased four M4 Pro MacBook Pro (48GB & 2TB SSD) laptops for our daughters.

Glad we got the gear. Slightly upset with misleading promises. Burn me once - shame on you. Burn me twice - some on me.

You're confusing dated technology with false advertising. Does the blu-ray player not play blu rays? does your sony TV not play 3d content?

Given how much unwelcome attention it’s received since they announced the ‘features’ must admit I’m surprised they haven’t removed this from the website yet.

Perhaps: ‘This feature is in development and may land one day (hopefully before the 16 series is obsolete.)’ would be more fitting? 🤦🏽

It'd be nice to live in a world where a company realized they shouldn't be advertising something that is still in development and coming some time in the future.

I am on Apples side when it comes to all of the Epic Games/Spotify bull crap. But the class action for the Siri, I am 100% against Apple. They flat out lied about those features, if the Excutives didn’t know, then they are incompetent. Either way they need to be held accountable!!

Apple wasted years and billions on a stupid car project that yielded nothing. If they had put that time, money, and energy into AI instead, they probably would have rivaled all of their competitors. But instead they didn’t see value in it and fell way behind.

Siri had been a colossal failure in general. I had the Siri App before Apple bought it and it was way better than anything Apple has ever come up with. Siri is a horrible “digital assistant” and an even worse AI. Every year they promise a better, smarter Siri. And honestly other than its voice, I don’t see much difference. I remember when they were going to partner Siri with IBM Watson and promised all of these improvements, I have no idea if the intervention ever took place, but if it did, it literally did NOTHING. Apple should have been sued over Siri a long time ago!

Having said all of that, I really don’t like AI, trust it, or want it in my life. So I actually like that my Apple products don’t have a working LLM, but they still have lied repeatedly about it and that is false advertising.

This falls squarely on the guy who needs to go.

I remember way back in 2025 so many (almost everyone) here were saying, in multiple posts, they'll immediately turn off or remove AI as soon as Apple loads into their devices.

And now, in 2026, we have the same people complaining about AI not being on their devices meeting their expectations timely. Too funny.
