from wafer start to assembled chip ship for phone assembly you are looking at a 2.5 - 3 months lead-time, so if these are for increased 11/11Pro demand, it's too late ... if they increased orders now, its for the new iPhone that will be assembled in ~ Apr timeframe ... this article doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
They may have increased orders in October based on stronger than expected sales. I wouldn’t rely on Bloomberg reporting to make the assumption that these are brand new orders.

And the iPhone launching in March would have orders put in months ago for delivery starting in February. Apple has the option of re-vectoring A13 originally planned for the lower-cost March model over to the 11 and 11 Pro, which are more profitable.

There’s no reason not to slip the launch of the March iPhone if necessary; they can continue selling iPhone 8 for as long as they need.

Pure speculation on your part.

First, it doesn’t state when orders were increased. And second, too late for what? These phones will be sold through at least late September.

Finally, three months to build an iPhone? These factories are already running, and can build 350 phones per minute.

OP is talking about the processing time between wafer start and finished chip. It’s a long process. But like you said, they may have upped the orders 3 months ago.

I don't know about others but I went with the Pro Max for the battery. All my iPhones have been positively horrid on battery life. For once, it's been really great and I'm not stuck by a charger all day long. I just hope new iOS versions don't totally obliterate this new found freedom I've gained.

I hadn't upgraded since the 7 Plus. Though I did try an XS and an 11. Both were mediocre in battery and sound quality.

This Pro Max does well.
Yep I did upgrade from 7 plus to 11 pro max.
Part of my 3 and half - 4 years upgrade cycle.
I found that this is the best interval to upgrade to feel the bump in technology and to be financially aware.

either way iPhones consistently keep their strength for 2-3 years and they degrade after the third slowly: battery or OS is to much for them to handle.

for all we know this is normal purchasing behavior- adjusting a CPU purchase order in the first quarter and fairly normal.
But no... It has to make dramatic headlines

I’m sure the 11 Pro Max battery is great. But if the XR battery or 11 battery is not enough for someone, they are spending WAY too much time on their phones. I had an XR (daughter has it now) and have an 11 now. Battery life on both is fantastic. They are both “charge every other day” kind of phones unless you do a lot of streaming or something.

Adjusting downward for Q1 is normal. We saw that with iPhone X and Xs.

Increasing production for Q1 is less common.

It’s not because of high demand of current flagships, it is for upcoming iPhone 9 ( possible name ).
Possibly. But think about it this way. If the iPhone 9 rumors for March are true, that means that Apple would have already ordered chips from TSMC. Any increase in orders would be either ...

  1. Apple originally under-forcasted how many iPhones 9 they anticipate selling and thus increased A13 orders, OR
  2. Apple is keeping the number of A13 chip orders for iPhone 9 the same and the increase is due to better than forcasted unit sales of iPhone 11/Pro/Max
Or even a combination of both.

I wish that was the case but with iOS 13.3 all my devices took a major hit. It was obvious. There are threads about this battery drain. I just happen to be someone who got hit with it.

I do use my device quite a bit, YouTube Red is in use a lot because I'm following politics right now. I leave it streaming in the background.

However, when I wasn't my 7 Plus still only got around 4-5 SOT. My Pro Max is like 10 hours. Quite a difference.
