This problem is troubling. I get no cell signal at work and its the only way I really communicate with my wife ...

One reason I decided not to switch from Apple when my contract ended last month...

aside form the iMessage problem on my iPad2, I have had no other issues...2 iPhone 5's and and iPad2...easy install

things are fast, more intuitive....I even like the font

----------

The confirmed this is an issue, great.

What about the problems with the Gyro/Compass/Level on the 5s's?

Having a compass that's 20 or more degrees off and a level that reads wrong on flat surfaces is not an issue?

try calibrating it...or if you cant, you have a service issue...take your phone in

----------

It does for me. It seems the fall back to SMS was disabled for me after updating to IOS 7. After the last reset for this issue, I re enabled it. I'm getting the iMessage issue again today after another reset but if you leave it long enough, it does then send it as SMS. I wasn't getting any error message, the progress bar would just get near the end and then it would hang indefinitely. Now it seems it hangs for a period of time then reverts to SMS.

My problem is that on my iPad, I do not have the cellular data enabled...so the messages CANNOT default to sms

iMessage is a much more complicated protocol than AIM, with multi-device delivery and end-to-end encryption. That makes it "finicky"-- there's lots of stuff that can break. Since the temporary fix involves resetting the network settings, I'm suspecting there's a subtle issue with key generation, storage or exchange. It'll be fixed.

AIM does multi-device delivery... and it does AV and file sending. AND it works on everything. No encryption, though, but that's not a big deal.

I made a chat server and client in Java, and it was all pretty straightforward. I don't know what pitfalls there could be besides overloaded servers.

----------

Yep, for your and your 5 oldest friends.

No, most of my friends use AIM (in iChat/Messages whenever possible). I know it has a bad reputation for being made by AOL, but it's great if you use iChat/Messages. Beats FB and G chat soundly.

You can use whatsapp / line or even Kakaotalk, WeChat, Skype, etc etc etc

the "reset network settings" fixed the issue for two days. but, issue is back. a restart kicks it back into gear...

Yeah the issue happens again after resetting network settings 2 days ago. I have stopped using iMessage and change to whatsapp or line.

this issue is more widespread than what Apple is playing it out to be. I work for AT&T and we've been getting multiple customers on a daily basis complaining about this very issue.

one of those customers is myself included.

I've been having problems like this. Messages just get stuck on Sending and never do anything from there. I don't even know they've failed until I notice the blue bar at the top not making progress, which under iOS 7 is hard to see anyway...

This is super annoying. By the way if you reset network settings, your iphone will forget all joined wifi networks which is even more of a pain. you'll have to rejoin them and enter passwords etc.

I had this issue after every iOS7 update
resetting the Network Settings is kinda PIDA as you loose all WLAN settings

what worked fine for me was
1.) turn off iMessage
2.) reboot device
3.) turn on iMessage (and confirm the prompt)

after this i got the status info of undelivered iMessages (which i didnt before) and new iMessages were delivered successfully.

Yeah, a similar technique works for me:

1) Turn on airplane mode
2) Quit all running apps (not sure if this step is necessary, but I usually do it anyway before rebooting)
3) Reboot device
4) Turn off airplane mode

The issue has happened to me twice now, and this has resolved it both times. Definitely much nicer than having to reset the network settings....

A simple restart works

To reiterate typeoserv's note, a simple restart will clear the problem at least for a while, without having to re-enter all your network settings. Doesn't fix the underlying problem, but an easier annoyance to deal with.
On the plus side, album art now appears to stay in sync with its tracks.

Sorry, but this is wrong. They never said "a fraction of a percentage". Their exact words are a fraction of a percent". "A percent" is exactly 1%. A fraction is a portion of that, a portion smaller than the whole 1%, of course. If that's not what Apple means, or even if it's what Apple means and such is not the true number, those are other issues.

The fact is that they are being very clear (for those with a very basic knowledge of English and Math) that the problem affects less than 1% of iOS 7 devices. True or false, that's what they're saying.

You have entirely too much time on your hands. I know what a fraction of a percent is and yes I worded it wrong. It's obvious what I meant. They made it sound like a small number of people when that isn't true whatsoever. I know MANY people with this issue. So its highly unlikely its a fraction of a PERCENT

I posted earlier in the thread I was having a similar problem as the user below, with iMessage seemingly choosing to stop working at random shortly after resetting network settings and/or restarting. However, it seems it's not so random on my end — I've noticed iMessage starts to hang for me every time I update any of my apps (I have background updating off and manually update). So for now, two things seem to work well for me in resolving this issue:

1) the method many have mentioned: turn off iMessage, reset network settings, turn on iMessage and restart phone — if I choose to update any apps, I *have* to do this... very annoying
2) or I just don't update any of my apps. If I don't update, the last reset seems to keep things working indefinitely. At least this way I can conceivably update just once a week (I typically update my apps anytime they're available, so close to daily normally).

Your mileage may vary. But thought I would post a solution that seems to have fixed the issue for me... until the next iOS update, anyway.

Let's assume there are 200 Million iOS users (that's a low number, the real number is higher but let's go with that).

1% of that is 2,000,000. Let's say that the fraction Apple is referring to is 3/4 of 1%. That's 1,500,000 people.

You think because you know a few people with this issue, that means that it can't be a fraction of a percent of users experiencing this issue?

By that logic, I know about 40 iOS users (including myself), and none of them are having this issue. Therefore it's only a handful of users with this issue.

Fact is, 3/4 of 1% of users is still several million users - I'd say it's highly likely that Apple's statement is accurate.

You have entirely too much time on your hands.

And you seem to be entirely too quick to pass judgment.

I know what a fraction of a percent is and yes I worded it wrong. It's obvious what I meant.

No, it's not. Not from what you wrote, and that's what I was responding to. I can't infer what you or anyone else is thinking (that would be judgmental as well), and can only respond to what is written.

They made it sound like a small number of people when that isn't true whatsoever. I know MANY people with this issue. So its highly unlikely its a fraction of a PERCENT

Yes, they made it sound like as small number. I said so in my response. But your claim to many people having the same problem means nothing, even if you write that word in all capitals. How do you quantify many? Many relative to what? Besides, your example is anecdotal, and thus, useless in itself.

Yeah the issue happens again after resetting network settings 2 days ago. I have stopped using iMessage and change to whatsapp or line.

I could if I could get my wife to use any of those apps ... Tried to get her on viber before. No luck.

She upgraded to itunes 11 yesterday (she was back on itunes 10 till yesterday) and she's having a meltdown about it.

So frustrating!

So frustrating ... I still not getting a lot of iMessages! People call me and complain why I am not responding to their messages -- that I never received! (Oct 4)

Generalized and tangential..

I agree 100%. I don't know anyone that has had this problem. iMessage has been fine for me, my family and friends. So, i'm sure its very few people having the issue. Just like the so-called motion sickness issue. Thats the most BS issue of them all. If you get motion sickness from the slight motion on your phone you are staring at your phone waaaaaayyy longer than you need to be.

Just because you and you're immediate contact network don't report this issue (to your knowledge...) cannot suggest the problem only impacts a "very few people". The fact is, people are experiencing this - otherwise a Thread would not exist on the topic - and there is no immediate fix.

Since upgrading to iOS7, I have experienced this problem and have tried all of the recommended fixes. These fixes worked for a short time, but eventually the problem came back.

...The fact is, people are experiencing this - otherwise a Thread would not exist on the topic - and there is no immediate fix.QUOTE]

This is faulty logic. Just because a thread exists to discuss and issue do NOT mean it is a big deal. While I am also experienceing an issue with iMessage, and it is VERY annoying, there are tons of threads on this webite that discuss things that are not REAL issues. I do miss being able to use iMessage though and hope that a fix is made available SOON.

Get this iMessage issue sorted.

This iMessage issue has gone on too long Apple, get the finger out and get it sorted. I have the problem as do several of my contacts, so this issue appears to be quite widespread.!

I've given up using it. 4 resets in 2 weeks to use a basic function? Even when it works they aren't synchronising to my Mac and iPad. iOS7 is a mess and I hate it. Bought an S4 off contract to use for a while until Apple pull their finger out as not receiving messages is a burner in my work life.
