This has me thinking.

All these years of browsing Reddit and android websites, I can’t say I recall reading any posts or articles of android app developers complaining that their apps are being unfairly targeted or removed.

Yet with Apple, this seems to be an increasingly common occurrence.

Is google somehow more fair with app vetting, or they just don’t care? The only conclusion I can come up with is that because Apple is doing more in this regard, it’s only natural that Apple ends up making more mistakes as well. And Apple being Apple, each incidence gets its slotted 15 minutes of attention in the news cycle.

But all’s well that ends well, at least.
The Play Store has way less restrictive rules and doesn't seem to enforce them much either.

Nobody said anything about deleting a root partition. There are plenty of reasons users might prefer to use a simple, modestly priced app that puts a nice UI on something you can do in the command line for free.
Also, this app does a lot more than just sleep after X seconds. I don't think there's a CLI for those features.

Google is a free-for-all. It’s not that they don’t care but they just don’t vet apps like Apple does. When you download an app for android you have to vet it yourself. Sure if Google catches an app being malicious they will remove it but other than that they don’t do anything.

As to this I don’t agree with Apple trying to pull the app because it’s just silly. Obviously what happened was someone complained when they saw the name in the App Store. This is why Apple has the appeals process so higher people at Apple can see and make a decision.

Because Google doesn't care, their store is full of shady crap including outright malware/viruses. Compared to Apple they have barely any policies in place.

this might be the laziest app ever.

go into the terminal and type "caffeinate -t 60"

there. your mac will definitely stay awake for 60 seconds. need an hour? -t 3600

need forever? no arguments.

it's not that hard. been using this for years and years.
What a dumb take.

🤔 because caffiene is definitely not a drug and definitely not problematic in any way.
trying to stop coffee because it stains my teeth so badly. second day in now. luckily no withdrawal headaches, but boy am I tired all day long, like completely unusable..

Everything hurts everyone's fefes now. Sad.

It's a fantastic app and I'm glad the "speech authorities" (whoever that is) changed course. So silly.

AI review likely caught it and flagged it for individual review. They sent the letter based on requirements. The Letter provided options for appeal which the developer followed and they were able to justify the branding.
I was thinking that it is more likely a new hire.

The App store is now so big, that even with 4, 5 or 6 sigma quality control, some periodic number of completely idiotic app review rejections (and acceptances!) will slip through. I've had a couple, fortunately overturned without too much hassle.

It is borderline bad branding. Only one or two steps away from calling the app Meth.
Agreed... I mean caffeine and a cup of coffee is my way of staying awake (not punching amphetamines).

Which amphetamines are legal anyway? A quick web search suggests that you're talking about dexi's and stuff (which are what... ADHD meds?) In short, '[a]ll of these drugs can be legally prescribed by a doctor for the treatment of various medical and psychological disorders'.

Meh... can't say I'll be using the app anyway. IMO (like real amphetamines) it's gonna shorten the life of your lappie running it heavily with the screen shut. The cooling system isn't made for that...

Come on. You know full well there are people out there who don't know how and absolutely should not be effing around in Terminal.
Yeah one golden rule is to NEVER cut and paste a terminal command unless you can read it and are 100% confident you know what it does.

This is what happens when a boss at Apple comes across something and takes it upon himself to show how important his role is to the company by trying to do something to show how he’s looking out for the company better than the rest. But in fact I’d just proving how disconnected he is from everything and is showing how dumb and useless he is. But since he is in charge everyone just goes along with it because there is no arguing with him.

when something is called a killer app, do you take that literally to mean that it kills people? when we say Apple destroys the competition, do you think Microsoft offices are a smoking hulk? There used to be an Apple accelerator card called a "rail gun", do you think anyone thought it was an actual rail gun?

the world is full of hyperbolic analogy.

An example of political correctness /woke censorship. Apparently some Apple employees have too much time on their hands.

This is a great app and I use it all the time. But I actually agree that the name and icon are problematic. I almost decided to not install it or use it, because it sounds sketchy. I can only imagine how many people have actually decided to not download or use it just because of its sketchy name and icon.

maybe they should have called it "speed" or "crank"

I saw this on the apple subreddit. I thought he could change his apps name to caffeine, then looked up any apps associated with the word caffeine, yikes.

im glad apple changed it tune on this, seems like that apps does exactly what it says, forces your Mac to stay up, nothing more.

speed, crank, uppers, juice, meth, ..... how about just "Mac-amphetamine" to make it clear it was only designed to keep your Mac away but not you. The whole thing is silly. The premise that if any word is used in an analogy, it is promoting usage of the original item. an app called "time killer" would be banned because it advocates that one should go out and kill people.

This app is not for that. In fact, you don't need an app for that, Apple laptops always had this feature.
