They make you sign a waiver, big red flag.. Just sell it and buy a new one.

The geniuses will have you sign a waiver that could easily pull an extra $100 out of your pocket if they can't "calibrate" the LCD. Wonder why calibration is never mentioned at any current repair store? It's because there isn't any such thing. The only calibration possibly done is if they scrape off the old glass and re-use the LCD with new glass. If that's what they're doing your better off getting the entire LCD assembly replaced with an actual new part.

Also they will wipe your information no matter what, it's apples policy. Good 3rd party repairs won't need to wipe your info everytime so if saving personal info is important maybe you should check into that.

Its all a hassle now so maybe just sell your broken phone to Gazelle, BuyMax or Totem etc. They seem to be good for selling off broken iPhones and such.

I'm going to give you an opportunity to site your sources and/or give some credit oaks, because as it stands most of what you said comes across ass horse manure.

Source for that being the only thing that Aaple can calibrate? Because monitors most certainly need calibration from the factory, and desktops enable a user to further calibrate LCDs. It would not surprise me if Aaple insists on doing factory calibration or if they do addition calibration. It also might be that the interface they use causes some inherent error in color or saturation. It's also not surprising that 3rd party vendors don't have the tools or technology to do the calibration.

I've never had a device wiped when handing it over to Apple. I realize I run the risk of losing data, but that doesn't mean it's Apples policy to intentionally clear all data on the device. What good would that serve?

Do you by chance work for any of the previous mentioned companies?

Has anyone had their screen replaced for $149? I called my local store (Woodland Mall - Grand Rapids Michigan) and they told me $229 for a screen.

the $229 price is for an OOW replacement. I'm pretty sure your local store doesn't have the capability to do repairs on i5s yet, or they wouldn't be charging that much.

Somebody said $229 for swap full phone, $149 only for the screen. No matter in warranty of not. Which one is correct? $149 for a screen is not cheap.

Too much imo. Third party can do it much cheaper with the exact screens Apple uses to repair.

Third party is lying to you. No third party has Apple parts. And they charge just as much if not more. Show me third party who has Apple parts and charges less.

I'll wait.

A friend I know charges $80, using oem Apple parts.

I replaced a friend's 5 screen on Friday and it was much easier than a 4/4s.

I run a third party repair service... our only differentiator will be location. God bless us.

Sad but true. There's no upside to getting involved with Apple products. Sooner or later they'll wipe you out. There's no larger more vicious shark in the ocean.

iPhone repair

It's pretty amazing how quickly repair fees begin to drop at the non Apple repair faciities that are springing up all over the place these days when newer models come out.

I recently got my 5c fixed at ifixgreeley.com. The price was less than $80 and it was done in a half hour. I'm hearing that the iphone6 might be even faster to fix. It sure isn't destructible though from what i hear.
