It mounts via MagSafe, so magnets. The best you should do to have the strongest grip would be to buy a MagSafe compatible case. If your case is thin enough, magnets may be strong enough to hold securely your iPhone even if the case doesn't have magnets
Thank you for replying. Do you have a suggestion?
Thanks again.

Depends on your preferences and budget. I used Apple leather cases for the past years, they are not the cheapest but I had a much better durability with them than their silicon cases (and the price difference between the two is minimal). But you can find a lot of third party cases with MagSafe, depending of the material, color, level of protection you want! Just make sure, if it is not MagSafe compatible, that the case is not too thick. I don't have a specific MagSafe third-party case to recommend you, but you can probably find a thread about that on MR.

Thank you so much for the reply. I really want one that is clear (to show off the purple). I don’t want to spend more than $30ish.
Thank you again for taking the time to reply.

Apple sells a clear case, but you see the white MagSafe ring, which I personally don't like. But clear cases tend to be very thin, you are probably fine with a non-MagSafe case

do I need to take out the silicon case? when I use it? thanks
If the case you are using is MagSafe, then a definite no, if it's a silicon case without it, the belkin mount has pretty strong magnets, so should work. I use the Apple silicon case with MagSafe and it's rock solid.

I hope that the mount for the Studio Display allows for a side mount instead of just top mount. And implement a swivel adjustment too. I think a side mount would make the sightline much better.
