I personally believe that the SE2 would drive up sales of the iPad.

I currently own an SE, 2018 iPad, and MBP. All of them serve me quite well at their appointed time of need. The IPAD is winning the majority of my usage time but I always have my unobtrusive SE in my pocket and behemoth 15" MBP near at hand.

When I am out and about my SE is my favorite device. When I am at home chilling my Pad is my favorite device. When I need to do some serious heavy lifting I lug out my MBP which at that point is my favorite device. My huge amount of time at the coffee shop is toggled between Pad and MBP.

SE2 properly configured and priced with a descent spec'ed iPad Pro seems like a super winner to me. I know a lot of people want the all in one but my kids have X, Xr, and 8+ and I notice that whenever they come home our two old (3rd Gen) iPads are down in their room; out of preference. Screen size wins when given a choice (in my home). They don't even ask to use my 2108 because I am always on it.

With my SE and 2018 cellular I feel that I have everything I could possibly need for a cost $150 and $440.

I would like my future to be SE2 (Fall 2019) and iPad Pro (early 2020).

It would be more efficient if you could just use your phone like your kids are apparently doing instead of owning both the phone and tablet, right?

I don't know, but I think the iPad is the best couch device no matter what kind of iPhone you own.

It be absolutely more efficient. I also agree that the Pad is more pleasurable on the couch no matter what phone you own.

Having once been hungry in life has taught me to get all that I can but not want more than I need. I often still want more than I have but when I get to the register my life lessons win out.

It is more efficient but not cheaper. It's actually a sacrifice because I loose the pleasure of enjoying the maximum couch experience if just an X (series) is my only device.

I am a "To each, his own" person. In my current situation an SE and 2018 Pad is so awesome for just about half the price of any X line.

I think there is a market for people who think like me. There is also a market for people who just want a bigger phone. There is a market for someone who can afford maxed out everything.

I think the SE market is important to all of us. Otherwise we risk everyone being priced out due to lack of options.

yes; it is a lot about price and Apple is learning this lesson as we speak. or not.

There is also those of us that really want a small phone. If the small phone cost $1000 I would get it. Don't expect me to buy another for a least 3 years though

Price-wise, older iPhones are still available for less money. The SE is purely about size and I doubt the market is that interesting these days. Even Sony stopped making the smaller phones and they were always all about that.

Not sure if Sony 'officially' stopped but its not hopeful. I enjoyed the XZ1 Compact for a brief period but lack of security updates ruined it for me. Sharp makes a well spec'd compact device that's only avail overseas and not compatible with US carriers or I'd be all over it.

But it's never been a level playing field to actually test that, most people I know my age don't like the larger phones, their kids do though. The problem is that smaller phones are always the budget option or just lack the features of the flagship larger models so the two can't really be compared. Make a smaller iPhone X (similar screen size to 6/7/8 with smaller body) and you'd have what many hoped the X actually would be, I'd bet you all the money I have that it would outsell the X if specs were similar - even if price was similar too.

Have you held an X in your hand and compared it to the 8? It’s 2.8 mm wider and 4.8 mm taller.

I get some would want the 4” back, but the X is very similar to 8!

This is also my current set up and it's pretty perfect. Agree with everything you've said.

Getting rid of old stock is nothing new. Companies do it all the time and should be doing it all the time; that's how they maintain cash flow. Maybe they're fuelling sales, maybe they're trying to reach customers who want a smaller phone or maybe they're just getting rid of old stock. I for one think it's all of the above, a way to kill 3 birds with 1 stone, if you will. Certainly makes sense for them and I'm sure some people will take advantage.

Yeah, briefly - I changed my 6 for an SE once the battery went flaky a few years back but I always felt the 6 was a little awkward, having to shuffle it around a bit and balance the bottom on little finger to reach the far corners, the thin rounded edges, poor ergonomics of power button opposing volume buttons so squeeze together... It was just always a little more unwieldy than I'd have liked. I held a friend's X (the only person I actually know with one!) and the fact it was a little larger in every dimension was apparent but even more so was the weight, it's a heavy phone. The only other time I've seen one up close was in a shop and the screen burn-in from the rounded-square app icons didn't inspire much confidence either.

A 4.7" screen in X design would be the sweet spot for myself and many people I know who are using SE's or still holding on to their old 4S and 5's!

So a 6 without the top and bottom bezels. I guess it would be easier in one handed use and lighter, but it’s not exactly an SE. I don’t think the difference would be that great between the X and a 4.7” X, doubt it’ll outsell the X.

I think most people got used to the larger phones. Yes, you compromise in some areas, but a larger screen has its perks too. I wouldn’t say I ever enjoyed typing, viewing web pages or watching video on a 3.5 or 4” screen. And that’s what some are still asking for. For those who already switched, it’ll be hard to go back, at least it was for me.

Respectfully: Awful post. :) Classic example of what’s wrong with today’s web/app/os design. Content becoming what creators want to create, to meet the creator’s needs/preferences, and not what’s best for the customers in mind. Ios7, flat design, etc.

i0s7 looked so much better than what came before it, and setup for an evolving language.

On paper the differences don't seem that much but in reality it feels like a big difference, especially when you mostly wear light shorts (like I do most of the year here in south Florida). I own an XS, an 8, and an SE and I find myself reaching for the smaller phones more often. Also with the bezels gone the X and XS are much harder to use one handed. An SE without bezels would be a dream phone for me.

Well, the iPad mini is returning so nothing is impossible :)

$499 for 256gb with latest processor, camera tech in SE sizing with full screen front. IN all day long.

I actually can't understand why they dropped this model. They specifically marketed this to women and people with smaller hands. It's not like that group of people suddenly disappeared...

Don't forget people like me (happen to be male but it matters not) who simply don't want a bulky phone sticking out of their pockets.

This is funny! Assuming that isn’t troll bait, it reminds me of Borat saying everyone knows the iPod Nano is for girls (instead of those who value some combination of size/compactness/budget or other features other than “the most_____fill in the blank_______”)! Ha ha so funny but yet I agree it was marketed with reachability in mind - I recall a commercial stating specifically that, maybe even posted above in this thread.

It's actually kind of wild that Apple, as a capitalist business, puts leftover iPhone SE units on sale for a tiny window of time and they sell out - they then proceed to revise their investor guidance because they were unable to sell as many large phones as they anticipated.

Apple’s guidance miss had exactly zero to do with large phones, and 100% to do with the China region. Other regions had record revenue.

Apple slashed prices 30-35% and sold at a loss to move those SEs, any idea why?

Because it was already an old (2012) device with just a new processor when it came out? let alone a few years on. If they sell the X cheap in 7 years time it'll be the same situation...
