Sony and MS make high quality controllers, but they've never been that great per battery life. If you already own the consoles, then it's a no brainer to use them with Apple products. But if you don't own consoles, it makes sense to check out other 3rd party controllers that are specifically made for use with Apple products.
I am keen to find a cheap controller that works with Apple TV, do you have any specific recomendations?
 
The pads are very poorly made , the top triggers break easily as there’s a tiny spring that is very weak , I had to replace a pad after just 3 months !
 
I've got a PS4 controller that I bought specifically for use with the Mac, and it works great. Just wish battery life was better!
