LOL you can't be serious. Seeing as it's a 2TB SSD option any idiot would know that the price is massively higher than they expected to pay at checkout and if they have half a brain they'll go back and check the cart before paying.

Refurbished Macs are generally not a great deal. I find that you can easily get a gently used model for even less. If the gently used model still has its 1 year warranty, you can even buy AppleCare+ for peace of mind.

The M1 based MacBook Pro is a poor value** regardless if new or refurbished. Just get a M1 MacBook Air and move on. Same ports, same computer, no stupid Touch Bar, and less expensive.

** If you are doing sustained heavy duty work where thermal throttling is an issue, the MBP has a fan and thus generally won’t thermal throttle. For regular day to day use that many folks need a Mac for, the MacBook Air is a better value.

I’d also like to think that hard core professionals are still using Intel based Macs with more RAM and discrete graphics. Those users will likely upgrade once Apple has a proper M1X or whatever based Mac. The current M1 was designed to replace low end Intel offerings, not higher end quad core machines or Xeons.
Some of us really love and use the Touchbar. Just because you never figured out how to use it doesn’t make the Touchbar “stupid”.

With the realization that I won't be going ANYWHERE away from my house for the next year, I went with a maxed out M1 Mac Mini. Would love to see what the M1 16"mbp brings.

If enough people actually loved and used it, it wouldn't be rumored to be removed from the next redesign. Why remove a popular feature?
By that "logic," we should still have Apple Cinema Displays, Airport Extremes, and Time Capsules, among other things.

Personally, the TB isn't for me, but it merely existing doesn't bother me at all. Glad people have a choice if it helps their workflow and whatnot. As far as your question, who knows.

MBP M1 now appearing in UK Refurbished Store in various configurations but with a delivery date not till 6th March. No Mac mini M1 or MBA M1 listed at present.

I'm keeping my current MBP (2018) until it's obsoleted by Apple, lost, broken, or stolen.

I'm admittedly not a power user. I remote into work from time to time when our building is being fogged, run the occasional Excel spreadsheet, and browse the web. According to Menu Meters (one of my favorites) my processor and memory use is usually miniscule. I'm not by any means pushing my current machine.

The new mag safe would be nice. And I absolutely DESPISE the keyboard in this thing, but it's not like I'm banging out Hemmingway on it. I'm writing dopey 2 paragraph reports and doing database checks. I almost never run the battery below 50%.

So until Apple says Nyet to upgrading the OS for Intel machines, I'll save my money....

Costco doesn't carry models with 16GB DRAM which is the one everyone should get.
Well I assumed I needed 16GB, but ended up with the 8GB Air (as I didn't want to wait and got 120Eur off)... and guess what... with the excellent memory management and speed of the M1 Air it's still feels as fast as my 5000Eur 64GB 8-core i9 MBP... and I'm running Android Studio, Xcode and Visual Studio Code at the same time... with a few dozen Safari Tabs and other various productivity apps.

I've always been a Max out the RAM person (and in the case of my trash can MP even more RAM than official)... and in this case I'm glad I didn't... I only plan on keeping the machine for maybe a year or two (basically until the Apple Silicon 12" MB is out) and it's my couch/(future) cafe machine...

Most "normal" pro users won't come close to putting the stress on their machines that I do during development in the next several years. 8GB is fine, 16GB is better, but most won't notice it for the lifespan of the machine.

I'm still rocking my Mid 2012 13'' MBP (for it's final year of XCode support) and I'm on the fence about what to get next. I really only use it for XCode and wonder if an M1 MBP is overkill or if the M1 MBA can handle it w/o overheating.

Welp, they're all SOLD OUT now so no need to be cautious about purchasing one. ;)
Really? Because I read this post from you, refreshed this page. Then went to the Apple Refurbished website cleared my cart, refreshed the store. Found a Silver M1 MBP 16gb 1tb for $1609 and it ships tomorrow. My theory is they are literally selling off unpurchased 16gb 1tb models people cant justify buying that configuration compared to the airs. Its the only ssd size available in both the MBA and MBP from apple avail at their stores. They gotta sell them some how so lowering the price and calling them "Refurb" seems like something Tim Cook would approve of. 10x1500 > 3*2500.

Coming from a 12 year user of a 15in MBP I have been wanting a 13 inch pro ever since my sister got one but they were just so much slower than all other 15 and 16. I find the 15 is massive on my desk and want to use this more often than my iPad for the display size so im thrilled. if they come out with a 14 and 16 i will probably sell this and get that but thats a year away.

I currently have a integrated graphics 15inch MBP 2.0ghz 8gb ram and 500gb. I love this laptop more than anything. it has been with my through the start of my design career and cannot wait to put a new battery in it and exclusively run Rhino 3d in it or Remote into my PC workstation exclusively for architecture.

Refurb M1 MBAs are in the US refurb store now. Base model is $850.

Naturally if you can hang in for the 14/16 MBP later this year I'd assume the 14 MBP would be a far better choice than a 13MBP... I have some heavy Xcode projects I'm building and never reach thermal limits... even with Android Studio it's not an issue... but naturally I prefer my 16" screen for serious development...

I actually was using a MB 12 for off-hours work, but it was just too slow... that's the cafe racer I'd really like... they can do it anytime... I do notice the difference between the MBA and MB 12... the 12 is even lighter and more "fling-able" than my iPad Pro 11 + Magic Keyboard.

And if you're really not sure, then you could roll with a MBA w/ 8MB (maybe... just maybe with 256GB, but that may be pushing it)... if you get it for a 100+ discount, and can deduct it then you'll be fine even if you replace it later this year or next.

Sounds logical. I think I will wait for the 14" MBP this fall.

M1 MacBook Air is costing me 1282 brand new or a refurbished MBP M1 is costing me 1359...both specs are the same. Silver, 16GB and 512GB. Thats £77 more for a MacBook Pro. Not keen on the Touch Bar, prefer the wedge design and lighter weight but the extra nits, better mic / speakers and battery is surely worth the extra right? I am thinking resale value of the MBP would be better after 2-3 years as that's when I would buy a 14 or 16" M2/M3 or whatever is out then.
