I think processor constraints are much less than they used to be.

It also depends on the price. I got a nearly 2 generation old 6s for $60 new up front. Based on other changes we were making to our account there was no additional subsidy cost.

I’ve had an XR for about 8 months now and I love it. Just a hundred bucks more than an SE is totally worth it if you’re after a big screen. And two hundred bucks less than an iPhone 11 for essentially an iPhone 11 with a less fancy camera is a great deal.

I came from an OG SE. I used to vow to never become a big phone user but now I don’t think I could even downgrade to the current sized SE, I love this phone that much.

The only thing is I use it without a case. I did buy a case at one point and it transformed into an unwieldy monster phablet. The phone rests so easy in the hand without a case... the glass back makes it stick sort of and it’s so easy to hold. Idk how people with big phones like this use them with otter boxes all the time.

XR owner here - and previously a 5s refurb user (which worked great until I dropped it).

Isn't it great that there’s now a number of iPhone models at various price points?

The SE2 is a bargain for those that are price sensitive and/or don’t care about getting a bigger screen etc.

These XR refurbs are great for people who are price sensitive, want the big screen and modern iPhone tech and likely just take a few photos once in a while. New XRs are at the price point just above of course.

Then the 11 is for those that (well in pre Covid times) take lots of group shots and who are out and about on trips a lot more. And the processor isn’t significantly faster than the XR.

And finally, the 11 Pro are for those who want the best and value the portrait mode.

Someone at Apple is now paying way more attention to provifing product ranges across the iPhone, iPad and Mac (slowly...) that hit a wider case of consumer need states.

Too late. Got a referb iPhone 8 Plus 256 for $242 with tax to replace my work iPhone 6.
Whats strange is the iPhone 8 Plus boots up faster than my iPhone 11 Pro Max Both running iOS 13. I suppose iOS 13 is optimized better for the 8, maybe iOS 14 will be optimized for the 11 later this year when the 12 model comes out.

@JosephAW where was this deal?

No they're not. They don't have a choice. I think touch ID is better. Give people a choice on the same phone and then see how many prefer one or the other.

Problem is Touch ID is not offered on any other current phone except the SE, and of course, Apple has made price a big differentiator. Sure, lots of people owned TouchID iPhones and are used to them so some never upgraded, and some begrudgingly bought FaceID units but preferred TouchID. Apple provided the SE just for those people as evidenced above, but many, like me, love FaceID and prefer it along with full OLED and LCD displays. Nothing wrong at all with the SE either and it’s selling quite well.

No. Not it’s not. I remember when there was just an iPhone. ONE MODEL. I was happy to buy an iPhone.

Fast forward to today and I have an iPhone XR. It’s a good phone. But I’m not always happy because I couldn’t afford the more expensive Pro model.

I also bought the red model. Most of the time I like it but then some days I wish I had bought the white model.

If there was only one model, in one color it would stop myself (and others) from comparing my phone to others and stop wondering if I made the right decision.

More Choices Lead To Less Happiness

Not Apple’s fault, their job is to provide choice to the marketplace and let’s people decide. Your problem is on you, your OCD, and perfectionism. Take it from someone who’s been there, don’t look back with regrets, just look forward to making the best decision you can at the time and move on. You’ll be much happier that way. Or seek therapy.

Perfection is the enemy of good.

Unless you offer a phone that allows for both Face ID and Touch ID, you have no way of knowing which is more popular. Why not voice recognition, too?

What are you talking about? Consumers didn’t even have a choice up till a month ago, and since then they’ve been buying the SE2 in droves. Besides that the XR is a GD brick in your hand due to its weight, thickness and overall size so the SE2 has proven very popular with women, teens and anyone with smaller hands that wants a good camera and snappy processor but not all the bulk.

Yeah, I'll also chime in on the idea that smaller phones are popular with women, as I'd submit that almost every lady I see, be it at work or out in public, has a plus-sized phone, which surprises me since I'd also figure it would be the opposite.
