So this has been released immediately after I bought a £1500 iPhone that could have easily have been included. Greedy Apple. I’m pretty disgusted to be honest.

And ****** quality, trust me, I looked.

What brands you look at? I've been using Anker products and they beat Apple (especially the cables).

I suppose people think Apple certified is better then UL certified, unless UL started tossing an Apple logo.

Can anyone supply quality competitive products? (specific products and/or links)

I do like Apple's build quality - its not flimsy squishy plastic, at least, not this stuff. If anyone knows a better USB-C charger which is either smaller, better wattage, or both, I'd love to know. Travel needs! :D

Scroll up.

Never heard of that brand, that site, or that reviewer. And the store site is... wow.

All of that aside, the theme of the thread has been safe alternatives to Apple's charger, not chinese fire hazards. Plus, kognos' profile says he lives in Oregon. That charger doesn't fit our plugs.

Pretty sure my chargers sport the UL certification as well, chief.

That Anker one (of the three) is bigger than Apple's and just as much wattage. Everything else on that list is more powerful, but also even bigger. It's in the right ballpark though.

Even the black 5-port, they're all smaller than one of Apple's MBP chargers. I'm actually using the 2-port right now; the USB-PD port is charging my iPP and the PiQ port is running my Anker Powerwave, charging my XS (I was tethering back and forth between them to update to 12.1.1).

I know. That’s my point. Anker products are tested and verified to be safe. Just highlighting how some on here don’t trust any product or company unless it has an Apple logo on it.

This thing should be included with the iPhone Xs. No one cares about the Apple sticker.

Uh, for Apple that's cheap!

I wouldn't be surprised if this was originally slated at a higher MSRP that got reduced in light of the lower than expected iPhone sales.

Fast charging is a bad idea for widespread implementation to the masses. The accelerated battery degradation will draw even more escalated complaints than simply not including it.

Someday, when Apple stops acting like its too good for the rest of the world, there will be a “universal” cable that can be used to charge EVERY device. They should call it USB-C.
No, not a USB-C to lightning cable.
That would defeat the whole purpose of being “universal.”
Get with it already Apple.

Really one of the worst comments I've ever read. Apple not only released one of the first two laptops to ever use USB-C, they were instrumental in designing USB-C for everyone that uses it.

Perhaps you should have looked at Anker gear, which will have many people on here who can vouch for the quality of their stuff, me included, and still have our houses standing.

Can I vouch for the non-quality of their stuff? I have owned five of their best lightning cables with the nylon fiber casing, every single one of them died for no known reason. They've also been replaced by Anker at least one time each, two for a couple of them.

I own Anker batteries, wall chargers, USB-C hubs, etc. They're one of the better third parties but their prices are not far below Apple's.

I own two out of three of those...but you do realize they cover more than one outlet socket and Apple's does not, right? They're not the same thing by any stretch.

Scroll up.

He will be scrolling up to chargers that are not quite as good, are larger, and in one case is a charging hub.

We aren't talking about Apple's MBP chargers, we are talking about the 18w iPad Pro charger, which is not much larger than an iPhone charger and just as light. The 5-port charger you are showing has only one USB-C port on it, which makes them annoying when you've moved most everything to USB-C already.

Which comes from experience. Apple has had the best service and quality of any electronics company I've ever dealt with, and I go through so much of this stuff you'd probably think I'm crazy. Anker has a great warranty, but I've got an over 50% failure rate with their products so far and I own about 20 of them.

Why is it that on the Apple official helpe page, it says that in order to achieve Fast charging for iPhone. You would need to use a 29w, 30w, 61w or 87w USB-c charger??

So can this 18w offer fast charge for iPhone or now??

Can iPhone 7 series charge at 18W? I find my iPhone 7 Plus charges at nearly the same speed whether on the included 5W charger or a 12W iPad charger.
No not 18w but yes 12w. I’ve seen videos of it being tested. Definitely a difference, I’ve noticed my 7 gets a lot hotter so I just use 5w as it’s not too big of a deal to me

You know the latest iPad Pros are USB-C don’t you? And the MacBooks. So they are getting there. I expect the 2019 non-Pro iPad will go USB-C (and Pencil 2.0) so hopefully the iPhones will follow and that will be it.
I’m very aware, hence the frustration. I hope they adopt USB-C as well.
