I don't know about you, but my passwords take orders of magnitude longer than the heat death of the universe to crack and I can change them at any time. And I don't go around parading my passwords, unlike my finger prints and eyes which are in plain sight all the time. And unlike biometrics, I don't get royally screwed over and get ALL my accounts hacked if I give up a password. With biometrics, you are literally pwned in everything. Maybe I should start being more like Michael Jackson and wear one glove all the time?

it will always be easier for the average, unequipped citizen to get your password than your biometrics. The amount of money they'd need to invest to get at your biometrics probably is not worth the amount theyd steal from you. Hell, it may even be more than the amount they'd steal from you. That's really expensive stuff, and if you have enough money to be concerned, you probably don't have it all in one account anyway

Your fingerprints are already on your iPhone. Easy. Ever watched MythBusters?

yes but like I said if apple ever used biometrics they wouldn't use that consumer grade gimmicky easy to break stuff. They'd either use biometrics as secure as what the military has or not at all.

My guess is with not at all

I might as well laser etch my social security number into my forehead.

Say hello to the New World Order

Just Say No

Please tell me you're kidding.
Apple using biometrics=New World Order? What the hell.
I do love the V For Vendetta reference though

I don't think you want what the US "military" uses. Have you read about their drones? No encryption at ALL for the video feeds.

That was one mistake that was unfortunately both very big and very widely reported. Overall the US Military has some of the most advanced security (and technology in general) in the world.

Oh, like how Private Manning was able to access hundreds of thousands of top secret documents and carry them out with him on DVDs, right?

Yeah, your clearly not old enough to have this in-depth conversation.

your passwords are always hackable, even the highest level security government servers get hacked and they change passwords and encryption systems on a weekly basis. Only dumb little teens think they are safe.

and if someone wants to cut your fingers or removes your eyes to steal your info; I'm pretty sure they could just punch you in the d!ck a few times and ask you for your password.

Technology can't do everything.

If information is locked down too much, important warnings can be missed. We've seen this time and again in the past, from Pearl Harbor to 9/11.

So security must also depend on trusting people with access to secrets. The overwhelming majority have proved worthy of that trust.

what an absolutely ridiculous thread. OP, save the pathetic freak outs for things that are actually announced and happening..not blind speculation.

Your a tool dude, the reason he was able to access that information was he had ********** ACCESS to it. He worked in a SCIF (secure compartmentalized information facility) with a top secret/sci cleareance. There were a lot of errors made in the run up and subsequent leak but it's not like he was some crazy hacker who broke in and found all this stuff. The system is only as secure as those entrusted to access it, in this case we gave the keys to the kingdom to a punk kid and he made us pay. Personally I am thourghly enjoying the way they are treating him (solitary 23 hours a day etc.) I truly hope the government executes him for treason, especially if that link can be followed through to ANY death of a coalition member.

Also thanks to his DVD antics, ALL government computers here in theather have had their disk drives bricked. The classified won't read or write and the unclass will read only. Nothing like a knee jerk reaction because of one *******.

I have some things to say about the torture of Manning and your support of his death for "treason", but this isn't the forum for it.....

Well, if his actions do end up being a provable cause for someone's death, then yeah, it's treason.

did some of that info need out? Yes.

Did all of it? No.

Most of it? Probably not.

Even if you save someone's life by rushing them to the hospital, you can still get in trouble if you run several people over while doing so.

For years Apple was a trusted, respected member of the tech community. I enjoyed every one of those years immensely.

Gradually Apple has become rather draconian, a stance that many will vehemently deny, yet it's noticeable in much of what Apple is doing presently.

I'm not sure where the OP's paranoia originated from since there has been nothing point to a Biometric only iPhone. However i don't see the big issue with it and i wouldn't mind it.

I do think it's very funny that someone has become a keyboard warrior and is attempting to dictate what apple "Better" not do .

And as for wishing private manning dead i think thats going way to far and someone needs to take their blind patriot glasses off. No one has been killed or anything due to the leak of information. Some info needs to come out unless someone is a sheep and would rather have things kept hidden.

The thing about apple is that they don't put something in one of their products unless they've gotten it to be perfect. So if a future iphone has biometric scanning, it's probably gonna be pretty accurate, safe, convenient, and expensive. If apple eventually does this, it'll end up being pretty awesome

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Nevermind that biometrics is inherently flawed.....

I'd be alright with the use of biometrics as long as it used at least kerberos encryption.

In all honesty if your doing online banking using public wifi without using a VPN, then you're opening up your passwords to be hijacked anyway..... And i imagine most iphone users dont even know what a vpn is tbh.

A handheld print scanner is not meant to be super secure. But it can be useful.

As mentioned before, I can see Apple using a fingerprint scanner to switch users on a family iPad. It's an easy method, even with kids. Watch out for peanut butter, though :)

On the iPhone itself, I think it could act as an easy extra user validation when using NFC for paying at a checkout counter. Especially for people who aren't used to using their phones as wallets / credit cards.
