That's odd - Why are they doing it everywhere except Japan?

Nor Korea. I'm hoping they'll give Asia a break come January for Lunar New Year ("Solnar", in Korean lingo).

On the plus side, Apple Korea stepped out of the dark ages last month and now offer BTO and various other services (iPod engraving, etc) long unavailable here.

No sale in Hong Kong either.

Do any fluent Swedish speakers know if shoppa is a real Swedish verb (as is seen in the Sweden store promo? I am half fluent in Swedish and always thought the word was "handla." But I have seen in Swedish culture that sometimes people just use English words and add a little Swedish flare to them...is this one of them?

"Shoppa" is commonly used as the equivalent of "handla" in Sweden nowadays. It is one of many loans from the English language. Historically, the Swedish language has incorporated lots of words from other languages (mostly French, German and English).

But, I have often noticed that the Swedish Apple Store does tend to be rather sloppy when translating slogans and product information from English to Swedish.

Just been browsing the online store. £71 off iMacs and MacBooks, not bad.

£25 off the Airport Express is probably the best deal to be had.

Yeah, £71 off an iMac is great, it makes a big dent in the 17" Superdrive Model, but if you plan on upgrading to Leopard you'll spend more than that in three months time, and there might be some updates to the hardware too that you'll miss out on. That said it is a tempting deal.

No doubt there will be some more iPods finding their way into people's Christmas stockings given the sale.

Just got 10% off a 4GB iPod Nano.... the Xmas present for me is done, now what to get everyone else

awww.. and I just came back from Nice, France! I could have saved $, then spent exponentially more on the abomination of humanity known as VAT!!
Are you aware that as a non-EU citizen you can claim back all VAT on purchased goods when you leave the EU? There's a counter for it at every airport.

I must admit its hardly the event they built it up as.

To be honest Dixons UK retailer already sells the iPods £10 cheaper than apple without any discounts.

Currys UK Retailer always have 10% discount codes available for their items, and offer free delivery.

Not impressed really..

Just went the Manchester Arndale Store, pretty disappointing if I'm honest. Stick to the online store for just as good bargains (there's loads more things on the website that are reduced today, the store just has a small selection in comparison).

When it comes to shopping and customer service being in the UK sucks.

I think its a good thing that they are truly international.
This is the first time it's been done if I remember correctly, so they're trying. Which is good :)

Why the sale in the UK?

Apple should hike the prices there. British people love being ripped off - its not called Rip off Britain for no reason.

No matter how much prices are hiked, they'll buy.

SHEEP.
Congratulations for that truly helpful comment, but could you explain what on earth it brought to the conversation?

Do you really need another mac though, dcv? ;)

Alternatively we'll just nip across to another EU country and buy everything there, as is increasingly happening.

Hmmm we get ripped off a lot but we don't love it.

Anyway it's the price we pay for being the cultural centre of the planet. :)

Even your Apple machine was designed by a Brit.

Does anyone? :p I only have 3 and none of them are intel!

I don't fancy a MacBook and out of the iMacs the only one I'm tempted by is the 24" but the refurb price is a better deal anyway. I probably won't buy anything today but it's nice to have a day of "deals", even if some people are poo-pooing it.

Hmmm, do I need a third Airport Express...? :D

oi - cheeky bugger!!! God bless the Empire....!

BTW - when it gonna be "Sir" Jonathan Ive?? Come on Queeny....

Can I think that APPLE just HATES ASIA?

There's no sale in Singapore either.

Nor is there iTunes Store.

Why? Cos there's too much piracy in Asia. Official statement from Apple.

In a region where there's too much piracy, they must fight piracy without introducing originals. Good job Apple.

I switched 2 years ago, and I'm beginning to hate feeling ignored. No Red iPod nanos I want to get my sister for Christmas. No Nike+iPod for myself. No FREAKING MUSIC except buying CDs off stores or from some stupid PlayForSure service which doesn't work on an iPod nor on an EFFING ZUNE.

I'm sick of all these. I've stopped asking my friends to switch because I do not want them to feel left out.

So much for FTA.

I've just bought .mac for £47.98 instead of £68.98. Had .mac before when it was on offer but let it lapse when it was full price. I don't use everything in it but have missed it for the things I do use.

Can't get through at the moment going to apple.co.uk and clicking on Store. Had to go through the link in the email Apple sent about the event. Must be busy!

Although any discount is appreciated, these amounts are so low it's almost as if Apple are taking the piss.

Maybe i'm just bitter because i can't afford anything

Frankly, with the dollar so low against the pound and Euro, Apple should be seriously discounting their entire product range - the premium they levy on us if now getting ridiculous, it's actually going to be cheaper overall for me to fly to the US and buy my MBP + 3yr Applecare there.

"shoppe" in Norwegian

Same in Norwegian ("shoppe" = "handle"). The Norwegian Apple Store used "handle". Advertising often has horrible language though, lots of spelling mistakes, anglicisms and splitting of compound words ("ord deling"). :(

Had been thinking of getting a wireless Mighty Mouse, and ordered one. The discount isn't big, but nice still. :)

Effective...

I've been lurking on the Apple site for a month or two, trying to drum up the courage to buy an iMac. I read about the Black Friday discounts and wondered if they would do the same here in the UK, so stepped up checking the site over the last week.

Apple REALLY knows the psychology of its customers!

I'm now the owner of a 20in iMac :), which cost £928 -- usual price £999. You can't argue with that.

I was planning to wait for Leopard. I won't need the computer until early 2007. But this deal tipped me over the edge.
