More than likely Federighi was given less resources and less time than was needed. Apple is driven by the keynote date, not common sense. This problem is not Federighi it goes right to the top where resources are allocated and schedules are made. No one except an inept CEO or board member could be this bad at addressing bugs.

OSes aren't released on keynote dates, features are delayed if they won't be ready on time, but rant away about things you don't understand, I guess.

About damn time, iOS 17 is a mess

At least fix FaceID, seeing as it was like— a key selling point warranting dozens of promotional videos about how “revolutionary” and totally reliable it is

FaceID has always worked flawlessly for me. What "bugs" have you experienced with it? Could it be your face? 🤣

Ok, that is really funny, because I got the new OS releases the evening of the WWDC keynote. In what world do you live in? And as to understanding, I have been an Apple developer a long time, probably longer that you have been alive and so I know Apple can do lots better.

BTW, which Apps do you have in the App Store? How long have been a part of the Apple developer programs and how many bugs have you submitted?

I have postponed installing iOS 17 on my iPhone indefinitely until I am satisfied they have squashed the bugs. The last time I did that was after iOS 11 was released. As I recall, iOS 11 had more bugs than a roach motel, and I waited at least 6 months until I installed it.

While they're at it, maybe the developers can fix the Flipper Zero attack that only affects iOS 17.0 and later?

Curiously, the researcher could not make the attack crash iPhones running iOS versions prior to 17.0. Apple representatives didn’t respond to an email asking if the company plans to issue updates to prevent the crash-inducing stream of pop-ups.

I can't say I personally see many bugs for my device or the devices I manage.. I'd welcome new power features though, multitasking, a freaking number row on the keyboard..

In what world does a developer beta equal RTM?

Their main focus should be on fixing the CURRENT software version while another team works on future stuff!!

What bugs are you afraid of? Give us a list... I think you'll find that you're scared of imaginary monsters under the bed.

Yeah, the image persistence, iPhone over heating, issues with directly transferring data from an old iPhone to a new iPhone 15 in iOS 17.0, as well as many zero day vulnerabilities. I can see why they want to pause and address QC.

But that being said, I think the problem isn’t only the bugs, but also the internal QA/QC process. That process should’ve detected many of the bugs found in the iPhone 15 series.

Because in the past it was for the most part feature complete. The keynote is the release, it is what all of the magazines and articles use. When Apple screws up, then after the fact they hedge their bets with delays on functionality for the hardware release. I must have guessed right, you really don't have the experience to comment on these issues.

Let's go!!! Mac OS 15: Snow Leopard 2!!!
Who else thought, "can they do this for longer please?" One week is not going to be enough.

There's a reason the most popular version of macOS ever was Snow Leopard...
We need macOS "Snow Sonoma" so very, very much.
You guys seem to forget that Snow Leopard came out of the gate with a couple of pretty nasty bugs.

A serious flaw in Snow Leopard was found that would result in the full erasure of home directories when logging into the guest account (this one affected me too and almost turned me away from Apple). The bug was so widespread that Apple had to release update 10.6.2 to fix it.

In addition, there were OpenGL problems/artifacts with the Intel Integrated Graphics Models at one point (GMA 950 / X3100 for the MacBook 3,1 and 4,1), which ultimately resulted in its drop in support for OS X Mountain Lion. There was a bug for OpenType fonts too.

MobileMe was the biggest rollout mess according to many.

Opened the apple podcast app this week. Was expecting a few dozen new episodes. Instead, it started downloading 19,000 different episodes. And since there is no way to mark all as played except for going through each show manually I just deleted every show and gave up.

How can Overcast made my one man be so good. And how can Podcast made by the company that invented podcasting be so so so so so broken?

There are several bugs I have been dealing with, which I hope get fixed every time there is a new release. But then they aren’t. I can’t imagine that a week of concentrating on bug fixes can really be enough.

Contacts: Adding contacts from the right pane to one of the lists in the left pane ceases to work after the app has been open for a day or so.
Contacts: Clicking and dragging across the name of a contact in the right pane only works, if I start clicking in the lower half (maybe lower third) of the name.
Contacts: Adding contact details in the Messages app will lead to that new contact showing up in the Contacts app only after 30 s or so. I do have a lot of contacts (> 5,000), but still…

Calendar: Can’t add coordinates to an appointment’s location, anymore. It’s been years…

Mail: Clicking on the down-caret to the immediate right of an address in the To: field of a message being edited requires the selection of “Edit Selection” twice, before I can actually edit the address. This has been a problem for years, now, too.

Great so another year of small changes, and boring updates, I was hoping next year would be a complete design change and nice new features
What’s the objective of a design change? Is it for change sake or to improve productivity and functionality?
