Yeah. I don't get why United would release this information. I would think companies wouldn't want their competitors know what they are up to.

I don't see this as confidential..or secretive.... Apple can buy tickets what whatever airline they want. If this a ploy just to get Apple to get them over, its not their decision to force Apple as a result..

It may ruffle the features seeing one popular company is "better", but so what ? It will ramp up the reasons to try and get more people with (y) company to fly with, but at the end, its up to Apple, could be for reason. direct flights, or a feature in businesses class..

But they can’t afford to pay retail a little wage so we can pay our bills and decide whether we need to eat pay rent or buy medication.
[doublepost=1547442588][/doublepost]It’s time to pay retail employees more money if you can afford plain tickets. Stop being so cheep to retail employees, give us a cost of living increase.
while I understand the sentiment, its every individuals fault if they are being underpaid.

if you agree to do X work for X wage thats kinda your fault, if your worth more negotiate for more or find something better.
if negotiating for a wage isn't possible its because your replaceable and the company isn't desperate enough, do what you can to become irreplaceable, if its cheaper to give you a wage increase than replace you companies will.

otherwise find a new job, if new jobs aren't available make your own.

a few years ago i moved out of the city back to my rural hometown, obviously i took a paycut once my telecommuting contract ended.
i had the choice of moving back to the city or staying in a place i liked more.
its not my employers fault i made that choice.

at that point the equation became do i take a 50% pay cut or go hungry, i chose the pay cut.
then after half a year of complacency and planning I started my own IT business ,why because i deserved what i was making before. now I make more than double what i did in the city or atleast my company does i salary myself at my old wage why, so I can hopefully grow or cover a bad year.
theres more risk but more reward.

TLDR: don't blame apple for the low wage you agreed too, if you don't like it make a plan to do something about it.

United got caught patting its own back in print, possibly a motivation something. They did not release it - it got leaked;).

As the poster suggests in very fine print, it was not for outside eyes. There will be some PR humble pie going around now.

If they lose the Apple account, it should be for the way they run the Airline, domestic and International, with such little regard for their passengers; not for this internal snafu.

Damn - luxury!

They should link with Singapore Airlines - way better service, and ditching United for its crappy service in the USA will be a good payback!

Oh - it's Apple; these days they don't care.
They're talking about business class not seats here not economy I'm pretty sure any airlines on business class will be treated like a king or queen. In this case if they know they were Apple employees I'm sure that's another level of service just to make sure Apple will keep the business with them. Besides a company like Apple would rather keep the business with American company that just how it works.

how did you know it was a clot versus just discomfort from sitting for so long?

It's a long story by unfortunately my family has a history of blood clots. Third generation in a row now to have problems... The problem is that the clot was superficial, not a DVT, so my GP didn't treat it, thinking it is posed little threat. The problem is that superficial blood clots can cause pulmonary emboli just like DVT's, which is precisely what happened (multiple times and multiple sites in both lungs) once the clot started to break up.

I know companies not nearly as big as Apple who constantly need to send people on planes. Not even tech companies.

You're dealing with audits and inspections, face to face required meetings, manufacturing. Working via FaceTime: great, but only workable for short meetings, not actually diving deep into issues, you want people sitting next to each other to do that.

Plenty of companies also have the rule: intercontinental flight? business class. because then you can hit the ground running, no stagger off a plane and suffering 1-3 days of poor productivity due to jetlag. ( having flown 11,5 hours recently, and having the very fortunate luck of getting upgraded to business class in a almost new KLM 787-9, I can tell you: I have never arrived in Japan more well rested with as little jetlag as this time ).

For business travellers business class is not a luxury. It's efficiency. Just as it is to have to send people on intercontinental
flights. It's not for fun. It's because it's needed. If someone can show me a more 'green' option to get to China or Europa from Cupertino then flying... I would love to hear it.

well obviously - i don't think any plane configuration as 50 business class seats. except for the a380 maybe..

Another person says United only runs 2 flights per day between the two, so it's 25 seats per flight that Apple is booking.

Airlines can put in however many business class seats they want (I mean, up to the physical limit, of course...) This route is big with tech companies who don't want to be cramming people into coach for 10 hours. There's going to be a lot of business class seats on the plane - not the typical 3-6 rows of it you see on the typical domestic plane (guessing on my part - only international flights I've done so far are to the Caribbean.)

in my experience it's usually 5-6 rows with 6 seats per row, so that equals 30-36 seats per plane. but these are boeing 777's and airbus's a330 - the a380 has more.

United domestically in the US is utter *******. But big difference when flying internationally than domestically, especially in business class.
Also not sure if it was a factor, but the United terminal at SFO is where the Centurion lounge is, which is a great lounge.

United international long haul in Polaris is still garbage compared to non-US airlines.

"Oh, it's Apple"? You are aware that you're on an Apple focused forum, right?
[doublepost=1547297850][/doublepost]

Right, it's probably 50 a week.
[doublepost=1547298061][/doublepost]

These aren't private planes, they're on a schedule and going to fly with or without Apple employees on board. It's like complaining that taking the bus is worse than taking a car.
[doublepost=1547298118][/doublepost]

One of my co-workers died that way on a flight to Australia for work.
[doublepost=1547298196][/doublepost]

Do you know of any companies going out of their way to plan in the UK post Brexit by travelling to the UK?
[doublepost=1547298362][/doublepost]

What you really mean is: you HEAR they are wasting so much energy by right wing media looking to scandalize these two.
[doublepost=1547298453][/doublepost]

I absolutely hate United but they aren't the actual crappiest airline
[doublepost=1547298555][/doublepost]

Right, United marketing materials are evidence of truth?
[doublepost=1547298612][/doublepost]

If your money is actually hard earned, you might want to buy cheaper products. These aren't taxes, you choose what to buy.
It’s really not of you business what I buy. But what would you know about hard earned money?! Not everyone is a free loader as yourself. Lol

Try flying cattle class sometime. I am one of those people who supposedly do not exist according airlines: I got a blood clot in my leg on a flight in economy class, then it traveled to my lung and nearly killed me...

That's no fun. As a frequent flyer, I sympathize entirely. There is no cure except to get up every hour or two.

It's odd if, as you say, the airlines think folks aren't affected by increasingly crammed conditions for long hours. I have no citation but recall that Frankfurt Airport has about six incidents a week where folks get off a plane, then drop unconscious a few meters past the gate due to clots traveled from leg to lung. It's not a minor thing (can easily be fatal) and should not be a surprise to the airlines.

It can happen to anyone. An acquaintance, in his early thirties and in magnificent physical shape (former Olympic wrestler), toppled over as he got off his plane, nearly died, and spent six weeks in the hospital and many months recovering after a long flight to Asia.

The worst thing you can do is to pop a sleeping pill once settled in your seat. People, please don't do that!

I am waiting for governments to start regulating the pitches of seats on planes as a health issue. I have a hyper-clotting disorder but I am also nearly 6ft-3in. Being folded up like an accordion when flying does not help. These days I have to pay extra for the leg room. And, on a flight where everybody is considerate and does not put their seats back, the one selfish exception to this rule will be the jacks$$ sitting in front of me who slams their seat back until it crashes against my knee.

they clearly made a deal to buy out business class every day on a specific flight. This is likely so they can get an entire team of engineers to China at a moments notice. I mean it makes sense, I used to work for a place that needed to routinely commute between two cities, they bought enough longterm train tickets every year to get a team from one spot to another whenever they needed to. In the long term it was cheaper than buying all the tickets whenever they needed them.
