AI is evident throughout Apple’s offerings, particularly ML. The catching up description is opinion because they have not talked about LLMs. The breakthrough will be an LLM almost entirely on one’s device. That level of security will be a major breakthrough. Bringing AI to the supply chain can be equally important and could be very important in the design, development. And manufacture of Apple products.
That is all hardware, not software. You should look at the fact that Apple cannot even get spellcheck, indexing, Siri, and search above mediocre at best (and that is being very complementary).

I love Apple but I agree, Siri is the worst. I have 2 Homepods and my wife and I are constantly saying "Siri is an Idiot". Considering it was introduced with iPhone 4S, it should be far better than everyone else's but is the worst. I am grateful to know she isn't spying on me though like Google and Alexa
i mean you don't really know she's not spying on you, that's just what apple says

You mean like this?

Apple has bought over 30 AI companies in the last two years more than Microsoft and Google. Apple is not only the dark horse in the AI race, but it has all the ingredients to win in it.
Well, if 29 companies are not going to cut it, what makes you think 30th will? Just asking because I am really perplexed. Looks more like they are just buying up companies because they are clueless.

Maybe wait until the retention bonuses vest.
I'll bet that only management got retention bonuses. And while startups typically have smart founders, I'll bet they have smart underlings that will be leaving long before the retention bonuses vest. Unless of course they are just biding time for the founders to start a new venture.

Apple is going to ruin their platform with this AI nonsense aren't they? It's power hungry and has a sinister tendency to give wrong answers that sound correct.

Why would we want this on our phones?
Oh, so you've seen dev builds of iOS 18! Tell us more!

If I understand this article, Apple is buying DarwinAI intending to use it to improve its future AI product? What, the 2,000 engineers who were working on the car can't pick up the slack?
I'm curious, what do you do for a living? Are you knowledgeable enough to do every job available at the company you work for?

But is the current Siri sinister (as you said)? I think Siri is harmless, since it really doesn’t do more than simple tasks.

Oh I wasn't the one that said it's sinister. Sorry I replied without context. Siri is useless but I wouldn't say it's sinister. AI can be sinister. But Siri isn't even smart enough to be sinister, it's just useless.

Maybe they can use this to finally solve the microscratches that the new Macbook screen come with during manufacturing.

I do wonder if this is about user facing AI at all. In fact based on the articles posted it suggests to me that Apple may be looking to use this tech to develop new iPhone and Mac PCBs. It may not be connected to their consumer AI at all.
