Apple is fine... No other company has Machine learning cores on all the devices they ship. And when they ship their Ai update... Around 300 million fairly new devices get their Ai implementation instantly.

If it is useful. Sure. If it sucks. well, we are in for it...

Ai unfortunately is one of those pandoras box types of situations. There is no way to put it back in the box again, and with M$ jumping in with both their feet AND grammas too.. Apple and Google have no choice but to follow.

I bet you we wont have 3d gfx in 3-5 years anymore, all cores will go to Ai and Ai will output directly to screen or what have you. I`ll be honest, 3d gfx aren`t that great... And Ai can do the look if you absolutely want it.

Is it dystopian? Sure... It has the potential to be super dystopian. We are barely handling just the internet with some fairly basic algorithms. What will happen when the algorithms are super intelligent and co-ordinated to squeeze every dime from you?

On the other end, I would love to have a helper that is dedicated and very good at helping me accomplish things I want to do. I would love for bureaucracy to become a thing of the past... I would love for people not having to work jobs they hate. I would love for this technology to actually be a force for change towards the better for once...

However, I am getting slightly ahead of myself. No, Apple will be fine. As some people point out, Apple is already using Ai in all their products, and has been preparing for this since they started putting Machine learning cores in their cpus...

Android devices have AI cores. And by the way, of course you need to buy an iPhone 16 to unleash the full power of Apples AI.

Upstairs at home with music playing on my iPhone, “hey siri, pause”, 1 minute later transfers from iPhone to HomePods downstairs. I can’t wait for SiriAI 🥴

And that is where they are guaranteed a high return of investment... I meant to say, Apple has Ai cores on devices going back longer then most. Which ofcourse, Apple doesn`t really care about. They care about selling their newest wares.

If Apple has been using AI on their products for some time, that’s more time and money wasted.

I really hope they make this a subscription service, so they will really see how few people care/would want this. Give people a free trial, sure, but allow opt-out. The numbers for the latter would be high.

Apple got caught off guard.
The executives were busy hanging out mingling with Hollywood stars and Fashion Celebrities. The geeks at Microsoft and Google are years ahead of Apple now when it comes to AI. Apple software looks primitive compared to them.
Also, Apple's software development pace is glacial.
Look at their software. Final Cut and iWork. When was the last time they added any meaningful features!
Apparently you have to have AI in the name of your product for it matter. Apple’s doing AI in iOS for a long, long time now. Getting into the more generative space is far from new territory.

I still find it amazing that Apple, the world's most valuable company which hires the most brilliant engineers and strategists, missed the AI vector when it launched several years ago.

They need to catch up, which is already extremely hard considering their current position, and break new ground fast. Good luck!
They have been using forms of AI for while now. And catch-up? Google and MS AI are both a mess and ChatGPT has its flaws also. They are not behind. But they will be ahead shortly.

And lets not forget killing Aperture completely thanks ! Meanwhile seemingly every other Photo platform has a "Pro" App for the iPad.

Apple choose wise in the DarwinAI acquisition.

As part of its digital strategy, the EU wants to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure better conditions for the development and use of this innovative technology. AI can create many benefits, such as better healthcare; safer and cleaner transport; more efficient manufacturing; and cheaper and more sustainable energy.
DarwinAI is concentrating on more efficient manufacturing using AI automation. Imagine if this helps Apple and then can be repurposed to provide similar automation processes to other companies.

Hello, planet esrth here. All TikTokers, Influencers, Instagrammers, … the want to have the coolest phones with the most stunning AI and they want it for free. If Apple fails, they just buy another phone that delivers.

You guys complaining about Siri, while me in Slovakia, I still don’t have Siri in my language available 🤣 It’s all a sad story and if Apple introduces AI features for English/Spanish/French and German… I’m out, completely. Going all in on Win/Android, as much as it hurts, but the future is AI and native multilanguage processing

Remember: Apple does not do "AI", they have "Machine Learning".
Just look at their latest few keynotes. They mention "Machine Learning" in every other sentence, but never, ever, would they say AI.

Apple wisely got out of the professional image processing market long ago. There was no way they could compete with Adobe over the long term, whose whole existence is based on image science.

"Meanwhile seemingly every other Photo platform has a "Pro" App for the iPad."

Well... if you really want to process your image files on an iPad, it sounds like you're in luck. I'll continue to process and organize my (many thousands of) image files using Lightroom.

Smart Phones and Smart TV’s, why not have Smart Siri? Don’t know how Apple missed this obvious boat

Sometimes on Movie Sets I use an iPad to operate a remote Camera. i think Adobe came out with a Mobile version of PS a week or two after  introduced the iPad Pro so in a way  seceded all that screen real estate to a competitor. I also once had the Producer of Lost and The Writer of Braveheart staring at my tethered Cinema Display during a Shoot all run by Aperture.

And by the buy I hardly touch Adobe anymore after discovery of the LocalSharedObjects Folder back in the Flash
days.

Apple used to call it machine learning

Apple is behind on AI because Tim Cook is a clueless MBA degree-holding corporate scumbag who prefers to hoard cash instead in investing in innovative things. When Tightwad Tim actually does invest, he throws away gigantic sums of money at useless things. For example, the biggest purchase in Apple's history was Beats in 2014 for $3.2 billion. To put in perspective how awful of a descision that was, the second largest purchase in Apple's history was NeXT in 1996 for $429 million when Gil Amelio was CEO. That was the wisest purchase in Apple's history because even the latest versions of macOS, iOS, and iPad OS are all still running NeXT's operating system, which proves that even Amelio, who was not a visionary, was a visionary when compared to Clueless Cook.

Interesting times. AI technologies are nowhere near set in stone and there are still endless possibilities. I love that the heads of the top 3 or 4 AI companies have distinct points of views and each believe they are the ones going in the right direction.

So Apple is not really behind anything, but it does need to move deeper into this field and take t far more seriously, but no one is BEHIND. This is merley the beginning. Most of the technologies behind Ai are open source and widely available. These are nascient times in AI, and Apple has been correct with focusing on privacy and protection for their target demo, that's why I do not mind paying more for Apple products. If I did not care about quality, privacy, protection etc, I would be a Google and Windows consumer. And likewise, Apple would not be one the most profitable consumer electronics company if others did not care either.

The Beats acquisition became the foundation of Apple Music. I’m not sure how that was a mistake.

Oh, and there were a LOT more moving parts involved in the NeXT acquisition than “Gil thinks it’s a good idea.” The biggest one of those moving parts was a guy called Steve Jobs.
