The iPad 2 is thinner, faster and has more memory, how can you call that a small update. They could not double the resolution of the screen due to a lack of screens of that scale. They would only be able to sell a few thousand and the cost per unit would be in the 10,000 range.

By now you should know that Apple is a greedy company, just wanting to hurt others and bankrupt several in the process.. its corporate america at its best.. hopefully NOT FOR TOO LONG.
I want to say BS to this but what do I know.
I do know that Apple started this re-imagined tablet market and they are the front runners. Now as for RIM, who cares!
They are only trying to play catch up to a market they don't really don't need to be in, IMHO.

How is this an attack? Apple can't make enough devices to match demand, while RIM will have a hard time selling the few units they do make. If RIM had people lining up every morning to get an rPad, they would have an issue.
You are not supply limited if you can't sell what you make.

You should really direct your anger at the giant Chinese state owned and supported mega-corporations that readily copy and steal intellectual data, employ slave labor, and otherwise follow no rules other than the wills of their government.
The sad part is its lack of focus. The Playbook has, what might be, the best real time OS ever put on the market. QnX is really kick a$$.
RIM is killing it with no idea what to do with it. Program with Air, Flash, Android, C, C++, Java, the kitchen sink.
If it runs Android Apps just OK, will anyone bother to write real apps for it? Instead of having 200 programming APIs on the thing, RIM should get a native email client.

I don't believe this report. How hard could it be for RIM to acquire the 100,000 screens they can expect to sell? This is just an excuse for the delay for them to work out the software bugs. Sure Apple has a lot of factories going day and night to produce iPads. But the early reports were only in the 60% of manufacturing capacity. Maybe it is more, but it isn't like RIM needs to make one million of these devices a month. Seriously, 100,000 will be plenty for the first month of U.S. sales. Maybe if enterprises really get on board, then sales will ramp up. But businesses are going to run three months of tests before they role out the big blackberries for the staff.

Of course! Any company that makes money has to be greedy! Even worse, they keep making the products so darn good, people keep buying them! How frick'n evil and corrupted can you get! If they really cared, they'd produce junk so we'd all stop buying! 🙄

At least they're trying to get in the market. Microsoft is still running around telling people they need Windows 7 Slates because it can run Adobe Creative Suite. You'd think they would get a clue when HP abandoned ship.

Apple makes products that people want. RIM makes products that cause people to point and laugh. Google makes products that they can only sell two for one or give away for free. Microsoft makes products that sit on the shelves until they are sent of to be recycled.
Don't get me wrong, I like Google. Gmail is great and Google is the only search I use. Unfortunately, they don't know how to make mobile devices.

Exactly. That's my take-away. They're so late to the game, they feel driven to make sure they're relevant by trying to support everything.... versus making sure they provide quality support of what they DO offer. If they really wanted Flash and Air, they should have let that be the END of it. Just make Flash and Air work really well, and then require new applications.
And, you forget Playbook ALSO runs Blackberry applications. What's the point of a realtime OS that no one takes advantage of? And they DO require Android apps to be resubmitted with a certificate to App World. My guess is that it won't run that app you bought and ran last year on your Droid 1. So, it's a big cesspool of technology as it stands. I'm curious if it will come across that way in the end... and if all that emulation and simultaneous processing winds the battery down... much.

What are you talking about - how does this related to this store? It only shows that Apple was smart enough to plan ahead to make sure they get the components they need - not their fault that other companies lack any planing (or don't understand the market) and don't order in time what they need. Followers have to take what is left.

Ha ha! Im not sure the relevancy of the last part...but I have to disagree (respectfully) with the notion that Apple doesnt require constant pressure or that any good company only listens to internal voices (users included). First of all, without competition Apple could very well become stagnant in it's HW development; a sad example of this is with the legacy use of C2D (and no folks, they could have gone to discrete options and circumvented the nVidia v Intel alley fight). Apple's also behind the curve on the GPU market, and with their aged MBP display res. Now, havent we all complained about these issues to some degree?
What any good company needs is both sensitivity to user demands, and strategic competition with other platforms. I think its silly that we still have POS acer notebooks with much more capable internal components (though nobody would argue that Apple's case design is 2nd best) at half the cost of a comparable Apple product. So for me, I really hope both Android/HTC/Moto/RIM bring great products to the table...and Apple responds with a total game changer. Stay well friend!

LOL! I love it when someone calls someone else "naive" when the opposite is true just based on their statement! Funny isn't it?
Actually, this is more of a situation of a monopsony in play where there are multiple sellers of various components but only a single buyer. This, in turn, locks out other buyers from being able to leverage price efficiencies and limits the competition from achieving an upper hand price wise.

Seriously though, I think people are going to be surprised at how well RIM rebounds. Not that they are going to stop or even slow the iPad or iPhone train, but I will surprised if they don't carve themselves out a pretty good niche.
They're a much more resilient company than that for which they are given credit. Do some serious research into the company as though you were looking to invest, and you'll find out that they got a little too complacent for a time, but they have some vision that will surprise people in the coming years.

3 months? My company is *still* testing Windows 7. It *may* be rolled out the end of this year.

RIM can be a serious player again. They have the name and the resources as well as the most experience in the corporate world with mobile communications. But, they are loosing ground to Apple and Google based equipment faster than you can shake a stick and they don't seem to be using all their resources very well at this time.
