steve jobs would've never built apple campus 2/apple park.

Incorrect. Clearly you didn't do your research. Because Jobs was the one that filed an approval to build on the land in Cupertino back in June 2011 for the new campus. There's actually a YouTube video that shows him attending the board meeting to file approval for the construction.

No wonder prices on Apple products keep going up: Apple needs to pay for the Spaceship somehow.

2012 MacBook Pro 15" Retina (256 GB) at launch: $2199

2016 MacBook Pro 15" Retina (256 GB) at launch: $2399

This is despite the fact that the cost of technology has gone significantly.

For example, SSD now costs less then 1/6 of what it did in 2012.

While the cost of tech does come down over time, Apple generally spends this cost reduction on higher end components. Since the 2012 model Apple has doubled the standard amount of RAM, included a much faster GPU with twice the VRAM and an SSD which is leaps and bounds ahead of the 2012 model in read and write speeds. On the surface the screen may look unchanged, but they newer models have better color reproduction and contrast. The CPU is probably the place where we see the least amount of change, but that's mostly to do with development stagnating at Intel and them refusing to lower prices in spite of this.

Let's also not forget about inflation...

Don't get me wrong, the 2016 could definitely do with a price cut, but when you do a proper comparison the 2012 model wasn't exactly a steal by comparison.

"-the springboard is a small portion of what a phone can actually do. Or do you sit and stare at your laptop/desktop home screen all day? Applications are what REALLY need good processors. And Apple's custom chips are far and away the best in the industry. Nothing compares to the power and efficiency. Look at any benchmark you like. There was also a great article out a while ago about Apple's lead chip designer and how he basically dominates the industry."

No one even cares as IOS is the most basic of the UI/OS on phones, no one cares if an app launches when you can on 512K on W10M launch just as fast. Apps are pretty done , people check email ..YAY.ON Apl side maybe do facetime YAY, Maybe use Maps err google maps , a game of Pokemon Go or try to get 10 buck worth in Mario go or whatever that thing's called... Hope your battery does't crap out at 20%. Where dies any of the "I'm the best chipmaker ever ..." even matter when it simply is used on a 10 year old UI and OS basically? Its all a Apl sales thing like "secure enclave " or whatever..Apl simply is slightly better than Android and that's enough for some who are a bit loose with their money to rent an Iphone for life at least 12% globally seem to be free with money and overpay on phones.

"-Nonsense. I use 3D Touch daily in a variety of apps including: Apple Music, Notifications shade, iMessage, Mail, Calendar and others. Not to mention 3D touching the keyboard in any app turns it into a trackpad which I use constantly. So I'm a person - meaning someone uses it. And I'm not the only one."

I use= I'm an Apl fanboi and will use every feature, I bet you use the Breath app too. Right?

"-Touch ID is NOT easily spoofed. It may be less secure than other methods but it's plenty secure for unlocking a smartphone or authenticating a payment. It's a hell of a lot more secure than a pin or magnetic strip technology."

Not true when iOS has shown to be easily compromised there were several incidents and a huge Garage Band hack right now...so if the platform can't stay secure then any payment system is also insecure. Regular CC are not that difficult and don't need an $800 apl phone to use and not everyone shops at Whole Foods

"-the number is higher than 30% of retailers. Here are some places I use Apple Pay regularly: Best Buy, Whole Foods, McDonalds, Subway, Chick Fil A. There are others as well - lots of places accept NFC payments. I stopped carrying my wallet."

See the Whole foods comment , its embarrassing to pay by phone elsewhere...people laugh at you. That 30% claim is another in a long line of sales pitch bs things, I've NEVER seen anyone use an iphone to pay for anything. Because the action is lame.you look like a doofus paying by phone except in WholeFoods whole apl user congregate to overpay on groceries. They feel same to look ridiculous paying and wink at each other and smile.

"-Most of the ideas might have been acquired (though company or talent acquisition), but to make true innovation (which disrupts the market) the ideas had to be refined and properly put together. Hence each device Apple makes, despite keyboard warriors online panning them, disrupts the market it enters and competitors shift to match/beat."

Um when was the last "disruption" its been pretty much downhill since Apl innovated BIG in 6.

"W1 is amazing. The AirPods are hands down the best wireless headphones available. They are pieces of technology and not infalliable. But they have a MUCH better connectivity than traditional Bluetooth tech. Which is the point. And it will get better. Not to mention the battery life improvements and ease of pairing and connecting across your other devices."

No ..no one cares about "W1" anything again a sales pitch to trick you into buying sub par $180 apl logo wireless earphones that drop drop calls for some. BTW apl bought BEATS tthink about that beats is a joke outside apl

"-Hold on to your butt because Samsung is dropping the headphone jack. Because it turns out Apple wasn't lying when they said they had to nix it to make room for all the other tech in the newest iPhones. You know what happens when you try to cram too much nonsense into a smartphone? It explodes....."

Android is trash, so is iOS and there with an Ios device you pay a pretty penny for really old UI its embarrassing.

"Apple is literally the leader in making products that are environmentally friendly and recyclable. "Basic services" such as AppleCare that have won JD Power for best customer service for like 15 years straight, iMessage which handles billions of messages a day with rarely an issue, an entire ecosystem that keeps all your data securely synced....."

Um yea ..where do all these apl devices go , they are amongst the LEAST RECYCLABLE devices on the planet also all those boxes and how about the gas to even go to the stores..environmentally sound is yet another Apl sales pitch when look at reality they are HORRIBLE for the environment with disposable non recyclable devices. They GLUE IN Li-ION to make it a recycling hazard.

JD power...well if I paid couple thousand to outfit my family in Apl , it would look ridiculous to not "recommend" my decision..don't ya think..its like flap and zap lasik people highly rated but they mention the subpar vision and loss or contrast sensitivity nor dry eyes permanently..highly rated because they spent thousands..and don't want to look stupid..again you buy into to the hype machine"hook line and sinker' as evidenced here.

Don't start with apl services, don't make me bring up itunes . Let just say apl services kind of suck

"I've had a number of Android devices over the years. I currently own a Surface Book. I likely know more about them than many folks here. Take your own advice and get out more....."

No its obvious you do not "know more", what you do is you buy in to Apl ads and stories. Surface Book is overpriced , I use a SP4..now you learned a bit more congrats.

It's private property, not government land.

Would you like people tramping through your back yard? Yeah, I thought so.

That's a ridiculous comparison.

Right now, you can walk around the buildings near Infinite Loop, even though it's "private land".

Before Apple Park, those 175 acres were occupied by multiple, separated buildings belonging to different companies (the largest was HP). Now, Apple has gobbled up this humongous amount of land, and completely closed it off. That's different and it's a loss for the residents of Cupertino. The city should have insisted on some limited form of public access (for example, some trails) as a condition of granting the building permit.

Just because you could do it doesn't mean that it's equally appropriate if you couldn't do it. Many companies employ guards and have checkpoints for parking entry or even walk-on entry. Nothing really surprising or new or strange about it.

Why is it a ridiculous comparison? Apple PAID for every square inch of that land. They own it. It's not public land, because it's been bought and paid for by a private entity. This isn't hard to grasp.
The city should no more require public-access hiking trails to privately purchased and owned land in Apple's case than in any other case, including the land your house sits on. I propose a walking path and public urinal through your back yard. Good by you?

Sheesh. Entitlement.

Apple today announced that Apple Campus 2 will be open and ready for employees to begin moving in this April, while also officially naming the site "Apple Park." Moving more than 12,000 employees to the site will take more than six months, the company said, and some smaller building construction and landscaping will continue into the summer.

In honor of the late CEO Steve Jobs -- who would have turned 62 on Friday, February 24 -- Apple announced that the theater at Apple Park will be named the "Steve Jobs Theater." The theater will be one of the buildings that opens later this year, and is situated at one of the highest point on the campus, overlooking the nearby meadows and the large, circular main building at Apple Park.
Apple's press release also covered a collection of other buildings at Apple Park, including a visitor's center that will include a full Apple Store and cafe, both of which will be open to the public. Apple worked in collaboration with Foster + Partners to build Apple Park, which occupies 175 acres and will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

The main building, which has been referred to as the "Spaceship" building, includes 17 megawatts of rooftop solar power, meaning Apple Park will be running one of the largest solar energy installations on the planet when it opens in April. Apple also takes pride in the Park's landscaping initiatives, which has resulted in the replacement of 5 million-square-feet of asphalt with various greeneries, as well as over 9,000 native and drought-resistant trees.

Construction on the campus began back in 2013 and was originally pegged for completion in late 2016 before construction delays pushed back its opening date. Throughout the years, coverage of the campus has been ongoing thanks to reliable drone videos that have showed up every month or so, giving Apple fans the chance to see major construction milestones like the first time the Spaceship building took shape, all the way up to the day that lights began turning on.

Check out more images and a video about Apple Park here.

Not bad but I would've called it 'The Orchard'.
