Seems like a lot of people like the name, but I don't. Apple Park just sounds too plain to me. I would have rather had Apple Hub, Apple Orchard or some other more creative name that just didn't sound so ordinary and bland.

1000 seat theater... thats about 50 x 20 layout. With a giant campus, that names this little theater after Jobs, I would have like it to be a little bigger.

Wonder what 'Visitor's center/cafe, open to public" means?
By public do they just mean authorized guests, or really the great unwashed?
And will there be a guard gate?
They must mean the general public. Legally, when you say that a place is open to the public here in California, it is subject to different building and safety code regulations.

In the same way, if you invited someone over to your house for dinner, you are not subject to hundreds of papers of regulations defining health & safety, bathroom access, food handling regulations, etc. They are a private guest of yours.

When you say you are open to the public, a whole raft of regulations are enforceable. Things like a sign in the bathroom that "Employees are required to wash their hands" or a sign above your front door that says "This door to remain unlocked during business hours" and illuminated Exit sign. A soap dispenser in the bathroom that is permanently affixed to the wall. Periodic inspections by the county officials. Stuff like that.

I'm sure there will be security measures between the public area and the private/secure area.

As for what the visitor center/cafe will entail, we will just have to wait and see. It sounds like there will be a full fledged Apple Store as part of the visitor center. There is no standalone visitor center in the site plans, so it appears that it will be part of the main building.

As well as handed a badge that has a tracking device to make sure you do not go wondering off the tour! /s

I can only imagine the amount of surveillance a campus this large will have. I can guarantee you this Campus will have state of the art PTZ Camera's. (Pan-Tilt-Zoom.) let alone restricted check points.

17 megawatts of rooftop power. Totally useless measure. 17 megawatts what? 17 megawatts per hour? how many productive hours per year? What we need to know is how many megawatthours per year the plant will produce, anything else is just juggling big, but meaningless numbers.

Yes, 17MW per hour; also 17MW per second. That's the way power plants are spec'd - look up a coal fired plant, LNG, or nuclear power plant. Of course it is the maximum amount of power it is capable of producing, which would imply on a sunny day. I don't think you'll see that output at nighttime... Your question about MWH produced over time is valid, but railing against the spec being "17 megawatts of power" is not.

It's listed on the site plan at 120,000 square feet. There's a foyer/lobby area to the main theatre, a backstage naturally, plus probably some storage/setup space.

After all the construction, and only a 6 month delay, on this scope of a building is pretty darn good. It will be fun to visit someday.

It will create thousands of jobs.
personally, having a theater named after you is better than a building, it is more intimate and close.

Point taken, but aren't mWh and kWh (etc.) the standard ways of measuring output from devices such as batteries and power generators?

Often the capacity of a battery or better the amount of energy that is stored in a battery is measured in mWh. The power would be the amount of energy that comes out of the battery in a certain period of time, so e.g. mWh per h or shorter mW. (Actually batteries have a limit of how much power they can put out at any given time)
Vice versa, if you take a generator that produces 1kW of electrical power and let it run for 1 hour it would produce an energy of 1kWh.

It will create thousands of jobs.
I don't know if it will create thousands of jobs, maybe a couple hundred more.

The engineers who are moving in already work for the company, they are just in various buildings all around Cupertino/Sunnyvale.

Same for the facilities support staff: food service, janitorial, landscaping, security, etc. Consolidating various sites into one main campus will likely result in some overlapping staffing. Not everyone is moving at once, so likely some extra positions will be lost through attrition. If they need more, Apple's contractors can hire as necessary to maintain proper staffing levels.

Of all of these various groups, perhaps food service staffing will need to be increased based on the size of the employee dining operations at Apple Park.

For sure, they will not be putting up a "Help Wanted" sign and hiring several hundred people at once. Apple Park will be the new home of people in existing buildings that are currently fully staffed.

Unlikely. They are naming the theatre after Job, so the main building will likely go unnamed.

They won't call it the Jobs Building; it would be too confusing if multiple venues at the same location were named similarly.
Yeah, I saw that after I posted. Sad face.

Even this thread is filled with people complaining.

I love this building. I think the design is beautiful, as is the attention to detail. I really look forward to seeing it once all the landscaping work is complete.

This building is a Steve Jobs product through and through. The last Steve Jobs product at Apple.

I also like that the theater is named after him rather than the entire campus. Jobs, the ultimate showman, what better name for the theater than his.

That was quick, now can NY state hire all the workers to complete some road construction, specifically the mid-town tunnel...Thanks!
Bet it opens on April 1st

Quick, someone complain that it's late!
Or
it is too expensive
Focus on resource utilization & make good products.
what a waste of money.
Bring back the taxes stashed in Ireland.
Anything Apple does now will get a negative response.
I am sure even if Apple sells iPhone for 50% off they will get a negative response.

Same Iphone 4 years and counting , talk about conformity. Where is the courage? Removing the Headphone jack? do you really buy that? Some people in fact many people believe thin as a feature is ridiculous after a certain point. Some people believe in fact many people that color is not a tech feature. Especially when the thinner product made out of bendable material needs a cheap case to cover it.

Yes IBM created beige boxes and tried to restrict their BIOS, Apl walls people in to "apl only" connectors essentially locking them in and refuses to work with 3rd party repair facilities. In apl watch the use proritary version of Qi to lock people in to using official Apl chargers. At least at the time IBM computers did more, today Apl computers basically cease to exist and when they do they are behind in tech, replaced by a static-chicklet springboard driven mobile OS a shadow of OSX, does not even have a file sytem accesabile not theior pro version supporting more than 4 concurrent apps.

Apl is IBM in essence, conformity, lock-in , high prices , expensive repairs, and BORING.
yes Apl is wrse than the company Jobs gave a finger to..sweet irony

Ten years ago..a lifetime in tech meanwhile that patent made Android succeed, no problem. Apl at 12% globally...problem. 10 years ago...a decade ago.

To put that in perspective...after 2007 now 88% of the people on Earth eschew Apl and that number is growing daily. the LTE ipod touch phenomena is about done. Whats next?

What is Apl?

Watt per hour would mean the slope of a power ramp. The OP didn't quite grasp the difference between power and energy (hint: it's the same difference as between distance and speed).

My name/indicator for them :

They lost the E (Pillar failure in the highly expected Watch) and the P(MacBook 2016 fiasco/#SurfaceStudioEffect) meant to reflect erosion of the brand so currently they are Apl, the used to be Appl and when heathy like in 2009 they were brand Apple. helps to see were their brand is currently. If they run out of letters.. game over. Some critical errors for the brand recently...hence "Apl" currently.

It's definitely different or rather unoriginal. I think it lacks creativity, but then again, if someone would have guessed the name in here, then someone would say "That's to obvious" or "How cliche." But it is plain.

Meh, No, I think you're just too lazy to type.

No its my thing helps me stay grounded in where Apl the brand is, helps others too. I suggest they come up with a replacement for the Iphone as that ship is sailing with the cloud. They are sort of stuck in time, like land of the lost. Be aware the worlds changing.

They cannot afford too many more major mis-steps world is not forgiving to these things.

It doesn't have the same character as Infinite Loop, but not bad.

I would have gone with Campus Pro but that's just me.
