Well, given that if you get your news on a hip hop website, chances are that the only way to get your hands on an iOS device is by stealing it.

Then yes, the rightful owner can block "your" phone whenever he wants.

Wow, after reading the comments on that site... Are these people our future? If they are, please let me die sooner rather than later.

I can barely read what they're saying.

I would not trust a Hip Hop website for my security concerns.

While Apple has the capability to disable any iPhone (and always has done), they don't utilise that functionality and have no reason to.

Wow that is extremely racist and offensive. Why wouldn't you trust a hip hop website? Because, most hip hop music is for black people? People like are the reasons why our society today still has racism and hatred.

Trusting a hiphop website for security issues is like trusting a cooking website for car trouble.

not any more easier than false reports to carriers?

That in no way encourages Apple to open themselves up to the same sort of thing. In fact knowing how people abuse carriers might be the reason why they don't do that. They certainly deal with their fair share of bogus crap as it is judging by some of the posters on these boards.

Think you're reading a little too deep in to it

Sad that people don't understand the difference between a patent/application and intent to actually develop it.

I'm sorry, but you seem to be the one that has decided Hip Hop music is for black people, and then assumed that either or both of those things are bad.

Exactly my point (although you could substitute "hiphop" for Pop, Rock, Emo, Jazz, Punk - whatever you want).

You seem the type to also be offended by your own shadow

I saw nothing racist about that comment at all

If you could pick a worse website to get anything that resembles useful info from I'm not sure what it would be.

I saw a documentary on TV the other day and apparently the FBI has the resources to turn on your phone (any model) remotely to record conversations in the room if they want to.

don't believe everything you see on TV

Sorry buddy, I'd like to agree with you, but just can't. What they said actually made sense a little bit (just like I wouldn't trust a Justin Bieber site to give me tach info), however I believe the comment you were looking for is below:

Lol you were reading about stolen iPhones on a hip hop site......... What a shocker haha

That IS kind of shocker, if you want to red about real theft that effects millions you should look to more white collar crime which, what a shocker haha, if mainly committed by white people who rarely, if ever, see consequences to their actions.

I agree on both comments.

I believe you read much too deeply into the above post.

How about a link to this.

Sorry, but simple science is not going to be able to TURN IT ON. Some of the other stuff might be possible, but it is turned OFF, then can not talk to it.

That is scary, when the fbi has that resources than probably all other secret security organisations in the world have got that resourses more or less. And then they probably will be using it ...

The patent wich deposits the idea to turn of the camera at certain locations by gps locations does not bother me. It would actually mean that when i use the iphone to take a photo at a location where this is not allowed i just could say 'don't worry my iphone has got gps restrictions, just holding my iphone up'

You've got to remember Apole is the cornerstone of big business today. With heavy connections to the government, there's a tremendous amount we don't know, nor do we need to. Only yesterday I read on CNN or some other mainstream site about how Apple has returned to tracking all iPhone activity.

So what? It's not a big deal & we will never have a say in it.

Besides their are far bigger issues that merit Apples attention.

I'm sure tracking is fully automated and gathering data that Apple can & will use to improve the product. And I'm not advocating for Apple, just stating my opinion.

If anyone wants to freak out over privacy, not Apple, not Google, not any of the tech sector should concern you. It's the "Big Data" firms that have better records on you that anyone else.

Don't believe it? I dare you to Google it :)

Ok I don't really mean switching the phone on but to 'unlock' the phone from it's sleeping state to actively record whatever is going on.

I saw it on Discovery Channel, an episode on Iyman Faris who reveals the plot for destroying the Brooklyn bridge. Apparently the FBI has been monitoring his calls/movements/whatever the hell he is doing and they mentioned that one of the methods they used was to remotely activate the phone (and they said any model) to record conversations in the room. Other methods include laser recording, where they point a laser in the window and micro vibrations caused by noises are decoded as audible language later by the computer.

Pretty high tech and scary stuff.
