Honestly, it comes across as you trying to score an rMBP off Apple. Being that there are no more 17" MBPs they'd have to replace with something of equal or greater value. I'm on my second MBP, third iPad, and third iPhone. Not once has Apple ever hesitated to fix an issue, be it light bleeding (twice) on the iPad 2, a faulty home button on the iPhone 4 or a malfunctioning compass on the 4s.
 
After 7 failed repair attempts by Apple - yes, I want it replaced just like the people on here suggested
 
Nearly unbelievable. I read the whole post and feel you deserve a replacement machine. You seem calm here on this nearly-anonymous "blog" so I can't imagine you were incredibly rude to Apple on the phone.

Tell us, upon receiving the MBP after the 8th repair do the problems of overheating etc. still persist? Are you still using the computer?

My wife's older MBP suffered from the 8600 graphics card failure. Repeatedly. After replacing it twice and her being so inconvenienced with no computer (academics need their computers!) again customer relations replaced it with a new unibody with a comparable processor and pro-rated the Applecare warranty that remained. It was a huge inconvenience but I was happy with how they handled it for sure.

Makes sense. But nobody here knows what the hell they are talking about because nobody here represents Apple. :D

All you can expect from free advice is to get riled up and have your confidence artificially boosted.

Weird, mine had a logic board issue so they replaced it. The screen started to flicker the next time around and they fixed it but sent the machine back scratched up. They sent me a brand new one right away. They said their policy is three issues and they replace it.

Currently, I only turn the MBP on when I need to use my Adobe Creative Suite of apps - when I leave the machine - I shut it down. I do not trust this machine.

Also, the logic board has been replaced twice, however, it still overheats and that is why I don't trust it.

I hear that some of the people that are replying on here are Apple Staff that keep an eye on these blogs. I wish one of them would reach out and do the right thing. After dealing with Apple since the Apple Lisa, I can't believe I am having to take the world's most valuable company to small claims court over a bad set of repairs. This is silly.

Still feels like there's something we're not being told. Seven to eight repairs and no replacement, and cancelling warranty? I call some major bull on Apple here if that's the case. If they're really doing this to you lol, I'd eat my computer. And when you say overheating, how hot does it get? If it's something under 100 C, that should be okay... but it really just sounds like, "Oh, my computer's getting hot, I want a replacement..." And their work is super duper thorough, I dunno why they are giving you so much trouble. Two logic board replacements, insane amounts of repairs, and the so-called problem still exists. I would LOVE to be in the courtroom when this happens. They've probably logged you as a pestering customer already and have you noted for begging on a replacement. No offense to you of course, but this many service errors would probably irritate the hell out of anyone. :p
 
I only asked for a replacement when people on here suggested it - this l started in Mrch of this year - replacement request in like June - really just want my computer working right.
 
Something is fishy about this story. Apple has a built in "replace the machine" repair count and OP is well past it.

I doubt you could get a rMBP out of it, but it should have been swapped with an equivalent machine by now.

Edit: Above poster said three repairs is the number, that is the same number I have heard.
 
A couple of people posting in the thread that worked for apple said it's rule of thumb, not anything set or "built in".

It's generally rule of thumb for when people have actual issues. Hence the fishiness questions.

Folks, see the above in bold/red. That is the OP's complaint, literally stated. It's completely bogus. He doesn't trust his machine? The OP cannot quanity the term overheats in the context that he is using it, so he is handing Apple a set of subjective complaints that constitute neither a defect nor further warranty repair. Good luck.

It goes to the greyed out screen with the line going down the computer & dead
The computer overheats
One fan is not operational
Data is getting lost & corrupted on the HD
RAM is failing & generating errors

I shut it down to the fan & overheating

I love Apple also & don't understand the problem

Also, Apple Tech has measured the temp - it gets to 118c & rising - that I why they kept changing out logic boards, 1 HD, 1 x 8 GB RAM
& fans - all changed out already

After small claims court, I will probably buy a MacBook Pro again. I love Mac computers. I won't, however, put it in my name. Spouse's maiden name will work better. Apparently there is a list that executive customer relations can put your name on & life sucks for the Mac owner then. ...

I've always wondered if the bolded part was true. I've been an Apple user since the 1980s and I've never owned a non-Apple computer (or non-Apple smartphone) in my life. The only time I've had a major problem with Apple was when I had to battle Apple to get a (dreaded) PowerBook 5300 exchanged back in 1997 due to constant crashes. I'd hate to think that after almost 30 years of brand loyalty, I might be on some "bad customer" list because I bought a faulty computer 15 years ago, when Apple was at its low point.

I know Apple normally does a great job with problems, but why do some refuse to believe that some might fall through the cracks? Jeez, it's just a company, not a family member. Why so desperate to label the op as a fake? No company is perfect.

On the last repair attempt, after the Apple Store had changed out the battery, back at the Apple Depot; they said they found a hair inside the computer, a wire to a fan frayed, and a screw stripped inside the computer. They said it had been tampered with. Warranty canceled.

Now it is my understanding you need some special tool to open up the sealed MBP and I not have it. The Apple Store was the last prior to the depot to open it. It was under warranty so that is illogical.

The MBP WAS SENT BACK TO ME UNREPAIRED.
