seems sketchy "3 individuals said to have knowledge ..."
but project "Titan" is celebrating its 10th anniversary soon, isn't it? o_O

Canada's auto sector has EV plans and a lot of good battery research. There is also a lot of battery research in the US. Why can't Apple find US and Canadian companies to build battery plants in North America?

Where is Lucid Motors getting its battery tech? They built a new plant in the US and their car is apparently better than Tesla.

Apple should consider Lithium Sulfur battery chemistry. I wouldn't be shocked if they were.

Can’t Apple pull some strings with the Chinese government and make the suppliers change their mind? After all Apple has stuck with the Chinese through thick and thin and the 2 million Foxconn employees should carry some clout.

The car is such a strange move. I feel like someone over there really wanted to buy Tesla. When they couldn't they got this super powered hardon for making a car ever since.

Good they want to make sure some of the battery building is done in America.

They are not doing it because they want to bring manufacturing back. Cars or its battery needs to be done locally so you dont ship a whole thing via continuer ship compare to iPhone which is a tiny devices. Even Tesla had to set up bases around the world.

I would never buy a car from Apple. Imagine trying to get something fixed under warranty after leaving your car out in the rain.

that's not as bad as trying to get the $50,000(?) Apple Car repaired two months after your warranty expires.... Apple will probably want $25,000 to $30,000 to repair something minor. (like what Apple does for out-of-warranty iPhones and Macbooks)

A “delay” in a project that hasn’t even been publicly announced. No big deal. Project schedules always slip. If you breeze through the development process with no slips, that means your initial schedule wasn’t ambitious enough.

Tesla, VW, Renault, Hyundai, Nissan - WE BUY EVERY BATTERY YOU CAN GIVE US!!! And besides, we're building our own battery factories at a cost of billions.

Apple - Well, well, build a factory in the US and give us exclusive manufacturing and engineering teams then maybe we'll buy some batteries from you.

I have absolutely no idea why Apple can't find manufacturing partners.

Why would the real boss of apple change their mind. The Chinese government isn’t in bed with apple. Apples in bed with the Chinese government.

Just wait until the utility companies find out that Apple will take 30% commission on all electricity used to charge the iCar. Meanwhile the hood will be sealed shut to ensure that it can only be serviced at a Genius Garage for 5-10x markup.

Why do you think it needs to go to the states.
Transportaton. Car companies, not just Tesla but VW and Ford are all locating their battery plants near the car plants. No one wants to have to ship these huge battery pcaks in containes and they relly do not want to have to pack them in shipping crates only to later have to open and dispose of the crates. Better tomove them 1/4 mile between adjacentplants and maybe in the same building

Alsohaving a plant nearby means you don't need a huge stockpile of battery packs

Fair enough.

Tesla just ordered 10GWh of LFP batteries from BYD. Why would BYD stick their necks out for Apple when Tesla would buy all their available supply right now?

I would like to see Apple buy Rivian. The design of their vehicle seems very well thought out and Apple-like.
That's not a bad idea actually. Rivian has a lifestyle esthetic that seems to fit well with Apple. But I doubt Apple pulls the trigger at a sky-high valuation of $80B. Better to wait until they're distressed and snap them up on the cheap.

They need to be considering something completely new, and so does the entire auto industry. Electric cars can never become mainstream with lithium ion on at the heart. They are dangerous, and an environmental hazard. It sort of works right now because of the minuscule scale of distribution. For it to be done at scale, would be impossible with the current technology.

Tim Cook had to get this product done before he can even think of leaving. So I’ll get done

I didn’t realize the valuation was that high. Still, some sort of partnership might make sense.
